Jelínková, Milena ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
The thesis deals with a compare of media image of Topolanek, Fischer and Necas government in periodical Tyden. I took two aims - first, to find out if any opinion inclination or political orientation is expressed in articles about Czech governments published in the periodical Tyden, second, to compare media image of all three governments among themselves and to trace potential differences. The theoretical section focuses on objectivity and bias, construction and representation. Substantial part of the theory is comprised of specific political communication and mediatisation together with trends in this field recognized in last decades. The empirical section is composed by quantitative analysis that compares representative articles and it is added by an content analysis of front pages of the periodical Tyden. Regardless of a fact, that the Jan Fischer government was very popular in public, the media picture of this particular government is rather negative comparing others. On the contrary there were found specific features showing that the Mirek Topolanek government was pictured more substantially. In generally the periodical Tyden uses negativity and stereotypes in articles about governments but in no case this is a predominant procedure of media products construct. The media picture of last three...
Representation of special classes of combinatorial objects
Scholleová, Barbora ; Nešetřil, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Loebl, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to bring together two areas of the graph theory. We first give a brief exposition of graph homomorphisms and related notions that directs to the definition of the replacement operation by using an appropriate replacement graph. The tree-depth is investigated as one of considerable chara- cteristics of each graph. Finally we focus on category representations in the category Graph of all finite graphs and Graphk of all finite graphs with tree-depth at most k.
Analysis of women's representation in committees of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic
Martínková, Hana ; Gelnarová, Jitka (advisor) ; Hakauf, Martin (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis is the unequal gender representations in various fields in politics, the object of research are the committees established by the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The aim of this paper is to identify possible reasons for the unequal representation of men and women given the fact that women are commonly more represented in humanities. In the first part of the paper, theoretical concepts used as the base for research are introduced. Among these are barrier that women face when entering politics, the problem of participation and representation in connection to women's agenda and women's interest and the political culture with respect to gender. The last section of the theoretical part deals with parliamentary committees and the division of the agenda based on gender. The first part of research consists of quantitative data that prove the uneven distribution of participation of men and women. Quantitative data were acquired through interviewing female members of the Chamber of Deputies. The results show that women tend to base their political agenda on previous work experience or specific experience particularly in family care. No proof was discovered of the influence of barriers to enter politics, projecting onto the political career, on...

Šulcová, Jana ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Gerbery, Juraj (referee)
The thesis "Medial muck-raking of sexual affairs in the Church in Czech press in spring 2010" through the use of medial ruts, stereotypes and logic, inquires into medial texts from the springtime 2010, which have referenced to sexual affairs in Catholic Church. Based on medial theories (gatekeeping, social construction of reality, agenda setting etc.) the thesis follows up the reflection of the theme and specifics of media discourse. This view is complemented with interviews with members of the Church, which give the thesis out-of- media extent. Qualitative part of the thesis takes sexual affairs in Church as illustrative theme, which is meant in connection with the Roman Catholic Church reflected by Czech media. The thesis also attempts to generalize the actual medial reflection of the Church on the background of current medial trends. It tries to offer a way how to improve the relationship between two part of culture - media and the Roman Catholic Church. To put the thesis into context it will be provided with information about history of the Roman Catolic Church and relationship of Czech society to matters of the church, because it determinates perception of medial news about this theme.
Fallibilism and Semiotics of Charles Sanders Peirce
Macháček, Martin ; Karľa, Michal (advisor) ; Švantner, Martin (referee)
This thesis consists of the analysis of Peirce's essays Questions Concering Certain Faculties Claimed for Man and Some Consequences of Four Incapacities focused on the genesis of fallibilism and its dependence on the theory of representation. Peirce's epistemological position here is articulated as a rejection of foundationalism and its conditions (e.g. intuition and introspection) that are understood to be unfounded hypotheses due the character of our knowledge of the outside world. The aim of this thesis is to find out how Peirce's epistemology can work without the certainty of foundationalism. Keywords: Peirce, fallibilism, representation, critique of foundationalism, inference, epistemology
Movement and multiplicity. Ontological dimension of painting in Gilles Deleuze's works.
Sluková, Tereza ; Fišerová, Michaela (advisor) ; Marcelli, Miroslav (referee)
Annotation: The aim of the thesis is to verify the claim that movement and multiplicity in the works of Francis Bacon, as interpreted by Deleuze, become novel ontological features of the paintings; at the same time, Deleuze's critical reading of Bacon's thoughts and other texts foregrounds the relationships of representation and interpretation, thus making Deleuze's concepts applicable to the philosophical refexion of the theory of painting. The chief goals of the thesis are therefore to understand the rhizomatic thinking in the perception of the artwork and to emphasize the problem-riddled nature of the relationship of representation and interpretation in the works of Gill Deleuze. By way of comparison of two actual texts it will be demonstrated that the endeavour by Deleuze to use the rhizome concept to transcend represention is doomed when confined to the level of immanence. What is thus arrived at is a far more fundamental topic of the relationship of the levels of immanence and consistence.
The Construction of "Dangerous dogs" in Blesk and Lidové noviny in the years 2001 and 2011
Stýblová, Hana ; Stella, Marco (advisor) ; Vandrovcová, Tereza (referee)
At the end of the 20th century the issue of so called "dangerous" dog breeds has become increasingly discussed in some European countries. These dogs are considered so threatening that some countries have decided to regulate or restrict their breeding by law. This thesis looks at the articles in Blesk tabloid and Lidové noviny daily newspaper in the years 2001 and 2011 and explores how the dangerous aspect of these breeds was constructed there. Through discourse analysis it investigates the image of "dangerous dogs" presented in these newspapers and what these representations imply. The results of the analysis confirm that all the selected materials explicitly construct the image of dangerous dogs and at the same time implicitly suggest the existence of their "positive" counterparts which helps drawing the line between "good" and "bad" dogs, and hence also between "good" and "bad" owners of the dogs. In all cases, it is apparent that the issue thematised on the level of dog breeds in fact charaterises the relation of man to the animal as well as the society. The representation of the dog witnesses far more about a man than the dog itself. Keywords: dangerous dog, representation, media, human-animal relationship, discourse analysis
Gender quotas in politics
Mottlová, Markéta ; Bíba, Jan (advisor) ; Znoj, Milan (referee)
The main claim of my thesis is that demand of higher representation of women in politics and calling for quotas are legitimate. This claim is based on theoretical framework of descriptive and group representation. Essentialism is rejected in the line of reasoning in favour of more women in politics. Instead, current disadvantage of women and social and institutional barriers are pointed out. Although there are no common women's interestes, equality issues are predominantly placed on the political agenda by female politicians. Besides gender stereotypes the biggest obstacle for women in politics are their own political parties because they nominate few women and they do not place them at the top of candidate lists. Civic Democratic Party before election to Chamber of Deputies in 2013 was an example of the concept glass cliff when women get to leadership positions in the context of crisis. Quotas are based on mistrust of gradual development. Efficiency of quotas depends on how many political parties use them and in which position in parlament these parties are. The order of candidates on the ballots is also important. Nowadays there is a proposal of legislative quotas which would be obligatory for all political parties.
