Possibilities of education of foreigners in the Czech Republik
Němcová, Kateřina ; Lorenzová, Jitka (advisor) ; Burešová, Karolína (referee)
There are more and more foreigners living every year in the Czech Republic. Their lives, working opportunities and overall social integration are significantly affected by their education and the access to it. This diploma thesis brings essentially an overview of possibilities of education in four areas: the learning of the Czech language and the access to university, high school or higher vocational school education; the acquisition of social, cultural and legal awareness, as well as other paths for gaining qualification or retraining. However, foreigners are commonly faced with deterrents when coming from a foreign educational system to the Czech one: nostrification of their documents, bureaucracy, language barriers and financial difficulties. The research part of the thesis has shown that there are some differences between two large minorities - the Americans and the Ukrainians - as to their access to education and motivation to learn. Furthermore, it has ascertained that their integration also hinges upon whether they are coming to the Czech Republic with a secure goal (job, studies, Czech partner or family) and what their financial background is.

Davidová, Olga ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Mašková, Pavla (referee)
Olga Davidová - Abstrakt DP - AJ Abstract Diploma thesis "Globalization and Health - access to health care for children of foreigners in the Czech Republic" addresses the issue of availability of health care for children of foreigners in the Czech Republic as development of legal framework in the Czech Republic and human rights issues. The main objective of this work is a critical reflection on the cause of discrimination against children of foreigners from third world countries (non-EU countries) in their access to health care. This is a retrospective case study which is selected by the institutional analysis of the key events of public policy focusing on the development of health insurance legislation. There are different mechanisms of protection of human rights at local, national, and international level in the availability of health care for children of foreign nationals from third world countries; unfortunately national legislation is not fully in line with international requirements in the area of health law. Although international documents are binding for the Czech Republic, they are not sufficiently applied in the Czech constitutional right to prevent violations of human rights.

The language and culture of Finnish immigrants and their descendants in North America
Chromý, Jan ; Fárová, Lenka (advisor) ; Lindroosová, Hilkka (referee)
According to the statistics approximately 1,1 % of the American nation has its roots in Finland. This is mainly the consequence of mass emigration, which concerned the whole Europe during the 19th century, including Finland. Due to the conditions in their homeland, which had been absolutely unfavourable for living, thousands of Finnish citizens left for North America. In the beginning their destination was the USA, but later Canada became more desirable. There were large Finnish communities (over 30 000 people) in the states of Michigan and Minnesota in 1930 and even in 2000 thousands of Americans acknowledge Finnish ancestry. Thanks to their certain aloofness and "introvert nature" the original communities, which do not exist any more, had created a very interesting social and cultural phenomenon, of which the language was a significant part. This dialect of the Finnish language, strongly influenced by English, provides a unique chance to research the impacts of the contact of isolating English and strongly agglutinative Finnish. There is no specialized publication or even a study on this topic in the Czech language. This work aims to fill the gap at least with the basic information about the historical, cultural and mainly language development of the Finnish immigrants and their descendants in...
