Industry 4.0 as an example of a top-down vs. horizontal Europeanization
Nováková, Denisa ; Young, Mitchell (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
Industry 4.0 is a new generation of manufacturing based on robotics, automation and new trends in ICT. It was for the first time introduced at the Hannover Fair in 2011 and has been part of the European, German and Czech discourse since then. This Master thesis deals with the topic of Industry 4.0 in the Czech Republic and assesses to what extent the concept is coming to the Czech Republic as a result of a top-down (EU) or horizontal (Germany) Europeanization. The thesis came to the conclusion that there are two perceptions of Industry 4.0. One is narrow and deals with the industrial policy and the other is broad and deals with society wide implications of the fourth industrial revolution. The debate about Industry 4.0 in the Czech Republic is mainly a result of a horizontal Europeanization based on bilateral agreements and close cooperation between Germany and the Czech Republic in the area of R&D, innovations and business. However, the top-down Europeanization cannot be neglected as the EU provides much broader context where Industry 4.0 is taking place. Moreover, Industry 4.0 gave a new impetus to the digital economy and society in the Czech Republic. It turned into agenda 4.0 and moved forward the debate about digital skills.

Searching for an ontological security in media
Šušáková, Martina ; Reifová, Irena (advisor) ; Hladík, Radim (referee)
Aim of the thesis is to analyze the ability of media to provide a sense of ontological security to their users. Changes, related to the transformation of traditional society into a modern society caused in the opinion of Anthony Giddens a weakening of the sense of ontological security of individuals. Such an outcome was a result of the space-time distanciation and individuals opting out of social systems as an impact of some globalization processes. Mass media in the modern society work as a main factor of social integration and differentiation. The ability to construct the sense of ontological security among its recipients is attributing in the field of television studies attributed to the traditional medium, television. But some basic characteristics of television broadcast and the role of television in households have changed with a digital television transition. Employing the methods of qualitative sociological research I will analyze whether new media have the potential to substitute television in the role of providing the sense of ontological security among its users. Iltis, Martin Erik ; Poucha, Tomáš (advisor) ; Vranka, Marek (referee)
How do organizations communicate to employees in the digital era? And how do they meet their specific needs? This work aims to map the complex knowledge of organizational communication in the context of current trends which have a major impact on organizational communication. Due to technological progress and new digital tools, internal communications are facing new challenges of losing interest and reach of their audience, i.e. employees. In the theoretical framework of this paper, the attempt was to introduce the general idea of communication within an organization, its functions, objectives and strategy. In the following chapters I have introduced the channels which are widely used when reaching to employees. As evaluation of effectiveness plays an important role in this domain, I have pointed out the key metrics which communicators should focus on when measuring internal communications. Communication in the digital era is no doubt a challenge and must change in order to meet the specific needs of the target group, however, what if the challenge lays not in the channel but in the target group? In the practical part I have introduced an example - a multinational company Siemens AG recently introduced a digital tool to share information with its employees - a mobile application.
