The depiction of Nordic model of welfare state in nordic noir: the case of Denmark

Nordic noir is a distinctive component of the current Nordic cultural export, which has become increasingly popular in recent years not only in Europe. One of the main characteristics of this genre is the description of tensions between the seemingly insignificant and peaceful social climate in the Nordic environment and the murders, racism, inequality and other malfunctioning mechanisms that occur beneath the surface. This creates an ideal spare for criticizing the welfare state. Denmark, as a representative of its Scandinavian model, is also one of the countries where nordic noir has spread very quickly. Therefore, this master thesis will be devoted to analyzing the criticism of the welfare state in the Danish series The Killing in order to demonstrate socio-critical tendencies in the aforementioned genre. It will further examine how they are approached and what specific aspects are subjected to criticism. The work aims to contribute to the current debate by presenting specific examples based on a detailed analysis of the selected case.

Similarities and differences in the structure and intensity of mortality in the Scandinavian countries

Similarities and differences in the structure and intensity of mortality in the Scandinavian countries Abstract The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find similarities and differences in the structure and intensity of mortality from 1990 to 2014 in four Scandinavian countries (in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden). First, the mortality rate is compared in the total and then it is compared due to six selected classes of causes of death (diseases of the circulatory system, neoplasms, diseases of the respiratory system, external causes of morbidity and mortality, mental and behavioural disorders, and finally, diseases of the nervous system). In the analyzed period, life expectancy at birth increased in all of the analyzed countries for both sexes and it was higher for women than men, however the increase in males is higher than in females. Most of the increase in life expectancy at birth was caused by decrease in the mortality rate due to diseases of the circulatory system. In the early 1990s, the class of circulatory disease represented the cause of death for approximately half of all deaths in both sexes in all of the analyzed countries. Implementation of Family Policy in Relation to Young Adults in the Czech Republic and Sweden. Focus on Students with Children

The objective of this thesis is to introduce the current generation of university students within the system of family policy of the Czech Republic and Sweden. The main focus is on a group of students, who got pregnant during their studies. It also points out to up to which point family policy engages in this period of their lives. The thesis' objective is also to introduce and provide with a detail view on not a particularly large group of mothers who are studying, on how they are perceived by family policies of both countries and what measures exist in the context of their situation. Both countries provide with a unique approach towards the presented situation which follows from a different evolution of family policies which are being compared. The application of tools of family policy towards student mothers in the Czech Republic and Sweden are presented on a case study. The conclusion of this thesis considers the measures which improve the situation of student mothers in Sweden and could be implemented in the Czech Republic as well.

It presents an analysis of travel agency Periscope Skandinávie, s.r.o. and examines Finnish travel agency Lapland Safaris' range of winter sport activities. This thesis also describes the outdoor activities available in Finland. Methods: The data presented in this thesis has been acquired by analysing documents produced by travel agencies (reports, figures, catalogues sold). The questionnaire method of research has been used to assess the level of interest future clients show in the offers promoted by the travel agencies. Details about working in travel agencies have been acquired through structured interviews with the general managers of the travel agencies. The archaeological evidence of relations between Scandinavia and North-West Russia in the early middle ages

This work is devoted to the contacts between North-Western Rus' and Scandinavia in the early Middle Ages. The work pays attention to disclosure of the nature of the Scandinavians stay in the territory of Rus'. This is done through the description and evaluation of the archaeological finds in the most important economic centers along the trade routes of the Middle Ages. Information on research in the territory of Russia and found objects is taken from the modern Russian scientific publications. In the work the modern vision of the presence of Scandinavian immigrants is disclosed. The result is the recognition of northerners as permanent inhabitants in several economic centers along with the Finno- Ugric and Slavic population. Current party system of Iceland

The party system of Iceland was always well-known for its strong stability and moderate nature typical for its whole modern development. But since the 1999 parliamentary election the Icelandic party system has been going through several changes and it is not appropriate to consider it nowadays as a traditionally stable party system with, in the long term, the dominant Independence Party. The party system is splitting off and the new parties are found out. Although after the 2013 election the system returned to the pre-2009 model, there is still an important question whether it reflects repeated stabilization of the Iceland political and party system, or it is only a reaction to the left-wing government in the years of 2009 to 2013. The aim of this thesis is to answer the following questions: is the Icelandic party system going through some changes of its structure or inter-party competition, and if so, is this transformation caused by the financial and bank crisis in 2008, or does it concern long- term transformations? Change in retirement policy within the Nordic welfare state

My thesis deals with the change of retirement policy in the Nordic welfare state. It focus on the period between years 1990 - 2014, during which the Nordic countries Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark were forced to respond to demographic challenges, such as population aging, decrease of economically active population, the increase of old - age dependency ratio and other problems. The main aim of my thesis is to find out if it is possible to observe a markedly different response and acceptance of different changes in the period 1990 - 2014 in the context of pension policy in these countries, or whether the countries responded similarly. The second objective of my work is to undertake a comparison of pension policy within the Nordic countries. As an aspect of comparison, I chose the financial sustainability of pension systems (expected future pension expenditure as % of GDP), the adequacy of pensions (according to the replacement ratio) and the possibility of drawing pensions (ordinary, early) and delay drawing pensions.
