Lukavský, Jindřich ; Slavík, Jan (advisor) ; Šamšula, Pavel (referee) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee)
TITLE: The matter of expressively creative tasks assessment in school art education AUTHOR: Jindřich Lukavský DEPARTMENT: Art Education Department SUPERVISOR: doc. PaedDr. Jan Slavík, CSc. ABSTRACT: Dissertation builds on the cross-sectional research in the field of art education, proceeding since 1987. The research is based on detection of typical attitudinal, cognitive and communication operations of fifth grade elementary school children expressing the emotion concepts by means of non-figurative painting and during the assessing process of the finished pictures. The main aim of the thesis is to deepen the professional view of the assessment phenomenon in expressively creative tasks. The text supports the production of subject matter didactic meta-language above methodological procedures, which is intuitively applied by teachers in practice. This sort of language should allow to name, substantiate and uphold the tasks specifics in art education. The work endeavors to connect the theoretical studies with the empirical research. There was used a mixed methods design for evaluating the data collected by empirical research. The results of empirical research are not formed into research report, but they serve mainly as illustration of the theoretical constructs or as a starting point for grasping examined...
Psychological and Epistemological Aspects of Curriculum Design

TITLE: Psychological and Epistemological Aspects of Curriculum Design AUTHOR: Dominik Dvořák DEPARTMENT: Department of Primary Education, Charles University in Prague SUPERVISOR: Prof. PhDr. Vladimíra Spilková, CSc. ABSTRACT: The alarming trends in Czech pupils' achievement in reading, mathematics and science raised the question of quality of the Czech primary and lower secondary school curricula. A conceptual framework for analysis of the intended curriculum as a multi-level document has been devised. A review of available methods for curricular analysis is presented. The mixed method research design has been used to study the actual Czech curricular framework. Preliminary exploration of quantitative data on Czech pupils' success rates in individual items of TIMSS and PISA studies identified the "suspect" curriculum areas for the subsequent qualitative analysis. These areas (e.g. fractions in mathematics, reading literacy in language arts) were compared in past and present Czech curricula/syllabi. The international benchmarking method was used to compare Czech, English, Finnish, and U. S. curricula. The results revealed the idiosyncrasies that remain relatively stable feature of the Czech curricula. The neo-institutionalism may provide the theoretical explanation of the results of the analysis. "European Identity" of a Teacher
Gröschlová, Andrea ; Walterová, Eliška (advisor) ; Chvál, Martin (referee) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee)
This work attempts to identify and analyse factors that have an effect on the identification of teachers with Europe: "European identity" of a teacher is being argued. We widely discuss actual meaning of the term "Europe" and seek an empirical approach to the "European identity" research. Correctness of the "European identity" of a teacher is not put to test; actual issue of the teacher's profession is being discussed instead. The structure of this work consists of three chapters. First of all some basic assumptions for the work need to be posted: we discuss such terms as "globalisation", "knowledge society", "educational aims" and context of "European dimension of education". The second chapter presents three interrelated parts. They are focused on the meaning of theme "teacher as a subject of research", "identity as a subject of research" and "Europe as a subject of research" . We conclude with the own meaning of the "European identity" of a teacher in the end of the second chapter. Empirical approach throughout the rest of the work is based on this conclusion. The methodological approach is derived from the character of the postulated hypothesis. We compare two independent samples. Two samples being a) teachers (teachers of basic and secondary schools in Prague) and b) random population. Based on the...
Aesthetic standards in art education
Podlipský, Rudolf ; Slavík, Jan (advisor) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee) ; Hazuková, Helena (referee)
In this thesis paper, application of aesthetic norms in visual art education has been studied from the explanatory point of view of structuralism (with an emphasis on Czech Structuralism). The study has been carried out as a qualitative research focused on didactic analysis of teaching processes. The aim has been to find out the extent of impact aesthetic norms may have on visual art education teaching process; to examine ways of handling aesthetic norms by teachers during the lessons; as well as to verify or newly develop a fundamental conceptual apparatus enabling to handle the aesthetic norms issue within visual art education lessons in a material way. The study is grounded in records of standard teaching units (written records of lesson observations; videotaping). In his study, the author applies the concept analysis method - a methodological means for didactic reflection and evaluation of teaching based on creative tasks and activity approach. Media in self-education of shoolchildren in lower secondary school
Jursová, Jitka ; Horák, Josef (advisor) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee) ; Nikl, Jiří (referee)
The goal of the dissertation was to analyze the current state and tendencies in selfeducation and informal education of schoolchildren from secondary schools in connection with a curricular reform in the Czech Republic in the context of mass media influence on children of this age. Opportunities and real situations how the media are used by children in their self-educational activities as well as opportunities and school competencies to use media in effective media and information education and in development of study competences of schoolchildren according to requirements of the reformed Czech curriculum became an object of the research. This work is based on the current concept of media and information education which is stated in the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. Media and information education has become an integral part of the new Czech curriculum and requirements to implement them in the school education are rising from the entire concept of an education in Europe at the beginning of the new millennium.
Effective Instructional Strategies
Starý, Karel ; Walterová, Eliška (advisor) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee) ; Stuchlíková, Iva (referee)
The main aim of this work is to clarify the concept of educational effectiveness. In the theoretical part we first of all describe different conceptualizations of effectiveness. Then we focus on the "processual effectiveness" rather than the "result effectiveness" of the learning in lien with the Czech science literature. Searching for the optimal school instruction which engage student learning is the next step. We focus on three key factors and we try to explain their principles. In our concept an effective instruction arises when students understand and adopt the instructional objectives (setting objectives), learn actively (activity) and finally they reveal the meaning in the topic (meaningfulness). The qualitative factors mentioned above were put through the time factor and thus we tried to design a model o f the effective instruction. We identify five crucial stages of a lesson: setting objectives, activating prior knowledge, understanding the topic, retention of knowledge and concluding reflection. These stages create an effective learning cycle as a part of a learning spiral. For every stage we give some examples of particular instructional strategies and methods. Assessment of Physics Tuition Quality Parametrs
Žák, Vojtěch ; Kolářová, Růžena (advisor) ; Svoboda, Emanuel (referee) ; Janík, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis deals with acquisition and evaluation of parameters of the physics tuition quality at high schools. Mapping the existing approaches to the education quality and tuition quality, the work includes also description of the progress and results of an expert investigation, contributing to creation of a new technique for monitoring the physics tuition and assessing its quality. Following chapters describe details of the research assessing the quality of the physics tuition performed by ten teachers at seven Prague high schools, discussing the validity and reliability of the technique created. Within the thesis, didactic preparation has been elaborated based on results of the research, usable for teaching the physical topic titled "Energy and Conservation Laws in Mechanics". I have taught this topic and the tuition has been assessed using the new technique. The thesis includes also a manual for future users of the monitoring and assessment technique.
