Services of public libraries in the Czech Republic for visually disabbled

Bakalářská práce je věnována tématu zrakově postižených uživatelů knihoven v České republice. První kapitola uvádí čtenáře do problematiky zrakově postižených obecně. Zabývá se klasifikací zrakového postižení, vývojem slepeckého písma, vzděláváním nevidomých a způsoby zprostředkovávání informací zrakově postiženým. Dále je zde uveden nástin problematiky specializovaných knihoven pro nevidomé a slabozraké, včetně jejich vývoje v České republice i vě světě. Podrobněji je popsána Knihovna a tiskárna K.E. Macana a knihovna spolu s digitálním archivem Braillnet Plus. V souvislosti s tématem jsou v práci představena některá univerzitní centra pomoci handicapovaným studentům, která se stala moderními a perspektivními institucemi, umožňujícími zrakově postiženým novodobý přístup k informacím. Součástí práce jsou dva rozhovory s osobami uživatelsky či profesně zainteresovanými v problematice zrakově postižených a srovnání služeb veřejných knihoven, které spolupracují s Knihovnou a tiskárnou K.E. Macana.
The practice of bachelor students of the librarianship

The bachelor's thesis provides information about general high school library and information practice recommendation, that is based on document "European Curriculum Reflections on Library and Information Science Education". The thesis brings information on the text of The Institute Curricula and gives the analysis of students internships that run over at three high schools in the Czech Republic (universities in Praha, Brno and Opava). The introduction describes a genesis of the Bologna Process initiatives and their development. In the next part, there is a brief introduction to the European Curriculum Reflections. The text itself is a conclusion of the EU project inspired by discussions around the Bologna Process. Subsequently, the chapter 11 titled "Practice and Theory: Placement as a part of the Curriculum" is introduced. The third chapter of the thesis focuses on students' internships that run over at the abovementioned high schools. The relevant information obtained from the Library and Information Science university teachers are presented, followed by results compilation and comparison. The development of "Resource Description and Access" cataloguing rules

Cílem této diplomové práce je zmapovat vývoj vznikajících katalogizačních pravidel "Ressource Description and Access". První část je věnována současným mezinárodním standardům a úmluvám, které výrazně ovlivnily podobu i obsah RDA. Je zde představena historie a vývoj katalogizačních pravidel AACR2 a stručně popsána česká katalogizační politika. Dále jsou zmíněny studie FRBR a FRAD a vysvětleny jejich modely, popsány jsou také Ustanovení mezinárodních zásad katalogizace. Jádrem práce je představení způsobu tvorby pravidel RDA, stručný popis jednotlivých kapitol návrhu pravidel a porovnání s pravidly AACR2, přičemž jsou zmíněny především výrazné změny v konkrétních instrukcích. V praktické části jsou uvedeny příklady zpracování různých typů informačních zdrojů a různých bibliografických entit podle pravidel RDA. Závěrem je nastíněn přínos RDA pro mezinárodní i českou katalogizační praxi.

Retrospective cataloging at Archive and depository center at Charles University in Lešetice

Retrospektivní katalogizace v Archivním a depozitním středisku Univerzity Karlovy v Lešeticích Jan Cvačka Abstrakt (anglicky) The topic deals with the retrospective cataloguing resources of the depository of Charles University in Lešetice. Depositary Center administrates the book collection of the former Institute of Marxism-Leninism of the Central Committee of the Communist Party. Books are retrospectively cataloguing by using the tools of the Uniform Information Gateway. Practicality of use is verified by the sample. This thesis also outlines the major variants of retrospective processing (recataloguing, retro-conversion) and the steps leading to today's possibilities of shared cataloguing between libraries. The emphasis is placed on the use of the Uniform Information Gateway for copying records. Uniform Information Gateway is specifically characterized (service provided, MetaLib, SFX, Z39.50).
Content management system with a focus on utilization in the library environment

Systémy pro správu obsahu s důrazem na využitelnost v knihovnickém prostředí Michaela Pappová Abstract (in English): The work is focused on open source web content management systems (WCMS), the conception and contextualisation. The advantages and negative factors associated with the use of these systems are discussed based on SWOT analysis. The next section presents selected WCMS - Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla! and Plone. These systems are compared in terms of potential utilization / deployment on the web, especially for small and medium-sized libraries by analyzing a sample of library web sites and specialized extensions, functions and other options offered by the system.
The analysis of digital archive Ask the Library

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze records of answered queries, saved in their online digital archive of the Czech national digital reference service called Ask your library. Two first chapters are based on studying sources, found within a bibliographical exploration of the subject. The first chapter briefly presents the service (development, current state, function, organization and administration, receiving and answering processes, etc.). The second chapter describes in detail the creation of online archive with answered queries and researching information from it. In the third chapter is detailed analysis of answered queries. The presentation of the results forms a major part of the work. The analysis includes the presentation and interpretation of basic statistics published on the Web site (eg. the proportion of questions within years, the share of stakeholders on answering queries, etc..), and analysis of the content of the answered queries within selected thematic categories (content and nature of the response, used and others recommended resources). Finally, the author evaluates the results of the analysis of the online archive of the answered queries and perspectives of next development of this service. The barriers to the use of library services by migrants from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine

The bachelor thesis deals with barrier problems, which appear in communication between migrant, who could be Russian, Ukrainian or Belarusian, and Czech librarian. The first chapter devoted to theoretical introduction in intercultural communication; describes such terms as culture, national minority, assimilation and others. The second chapter devoted to detailed analysis of barriers (language, psychological), which can influence on communication of both sides. The third chapter focuses to foreigners (their types: migrant, refugee, asylum seeker) and on the types of residence, that migrants can obtain in the Czech Republic. There is also briefly describes the Ukrainians, Russians and Belarusians (reasons for migration, the number of migrants in the Czech Republic and so on.). The fourth chapter is practical and describes how is the situation in the Municipal Library in Prague, as well as research - including their preparation, methodology, process and results - which were analyzed by me in the two branches of this library. Both librarians and migrants took part in this research; and opinions of both groups are presented. . The fund profile of selected library in the view of representation of topic of the new religions, sects and magic.

Thesis describes a basic analysis of the acquisition, processing, access to and use of titles in the topics of new religions, sects and magic in the Municipal Library in Prague. The work is based on theoretical definition of topics of new religions, sects and magic, and their division into sub-topics. A separate chapter is devoted to theoretical description of the decomposition of the library system. In the practical part is an analysis of 30 selected publications representing these topics. This part is based on the method of structured interviews with employees of the selected library, observation and data processing of computerized library information system (bibliographic records, anonymized logs borrowing). Political and educational role of public libraries in the 50 and 60 years in Ostrava region The thesis is focused on cultural politics of the communist regime in the 50s and 60s of the 20th century in relation to public libraries. Based on archival materials the main attention is paid to the situation in the Ostrava region Cultural policy was aimed in two directions. First through repression, when citizens were banned from access to ideas and works that the regime considered as harmful or objectionable. This activity was implemented by censorship of printed materials, sorting of collections and persecution of opponents. Second way to filling the gaps after undesirable denied authors by pro-regime publications, written in the style of socialist realism. Public libraries were using different sorts of methods how to bring readers to this new literature and how to bring them up to be loyal and conscious builders of socialism - e.g. discussions and reader's conferences, literature contests and polls, Fucik's badge, Month of books and so on. The focus is also on libraries promotion of actions and activities supporting the policy of the Party and the government, such as celebrations of party anniversary, recruitment in mining, atheistic education of readers etc.
