Zrychlená společnost a hnutí Slow Movement

This bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of accelerated society and global thought movement the Slow Movement, as a response to this social trend of recent centuries. Firstly, the author describes the historical development of the social accelerating in addition to its impact on humanity and environment, which, it is found out, are often significantly negative. Subsequently, the study describes the historical and cultural differences in human perception of time and the different pace of life of selected countries and nations of the world. Furthermore, the study focuses attention on the first tendency toward a slowdown that began to emerge in the society at the modern time, and increasingly was asserted in the postmodern age. The main part of the work represents a global movement Slow Movement, the circumstances of its origin, development in time, and the main ideas of the whole concept. Through a detailed description of each thematic branch of the Slow Movement, there are also presented specific methods and guidelines for the implementation of life in accordance with the slow philosophy. The conclusion summarizes the main findings and insights that have been achieved in the study, voiced suggestions for the future research, as well as a brief reflection on the prospects of potential future success and further expansion of the Slow Movement thoughts.

Liminality in modern society: Erasmus as a Rite de Passage

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the topic of liminality in modern rites of passage which are represented here by the Erasmus+ programme. It looks at how some of its aspects differ from the liminal phase of ritual as described by Victor Turner. The work is based on research that took place during five-months studies at KTU (Kaunas University of Technology) in Lithuania within the frame of Erasmus study programme. The data was obtained through participant observation and also nine semi-structured interviews with other program participants. The research discovered that a change in liminal characteristics in modern rites of passage occurs through the globalization process. The thesis deals in detail with individual phenomena connected with the process of globalization. One of them is, for example, the development of modern technologies, which results in loosening of isolation of liminal persons and it also allows them to maintain contact with their home and the original structure. Another point is the reduction of space-time distances and the simplification of mobility, which also increases the sense of detachment from the structure of the society in which these liminal persons are located. Searching for an ontological security in media

Aim of the thesis is to analyze the ability of media to provide a sense of ontological security to their users. Changes, related to the transformation of traditional society into a modern society caused in the opinion of Anthony Giddens a weakening of the sense of ontological security of individuals. Such an outcome was a result of the space-time distanciation and individuals opting out of social systems as an impact of some globalization processes. Mass media in the modern society work as a main factor of social integration and differentiation. The ability to construct the sense of ontological security among its recipients is attributing in the field of television studies attributed to the traditional medium, television. But some basic characteristics of television broadcast and the role of television in households have changed with a digital television transition. Employing the methods of qualitative sociological research I will analyze whether new media have the potential to substitute television in the role of providing the sense of ontological security among its users. Modern Dystopia and Contemporary Western Society

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze how the contemporary western society is reflected in the modern dystopian works' perspective. Key problems and aspects defining today's western society, e.g. consumerism and the role of science and technology, are specified in the introductory part of the thesis. The next part concerns with dystopian creation. Firstly there is focus on dystopian genre characteristics and its roots and typology. Secondly there is introduced a triad of classical dystopian works' representatives: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Every work is shortly introduced with its synopsis in the beginning and key features of described visions of society follow afterwards. Then the thesis speaks about chosen modern dystopian works' representatives in detail: The Matrix by the Wachowskis, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and Divergent by Veronica Roth. After the synopsis summary of each there is an analysis of key features, a comparison with classical dystopias and a search for parallels in the contemporary western society. Questions how modern dystopias reflect modern society and how they correlate with classical dystopias and expert literature concerning contemporary social phenomena are answered in the conclusion of the thesis.

Postmodern Society and Contemporary Tasks of Education

(in English): This Diploma work is examining the relation between contemporary social conceptions and aims of education how these are expressed by curriculum documents mainly in Czech Republic. But this relation is not the case of easy and unidirectional impact of social knowledge to educational science. That is why the first part of this thesis is focused on four important postmodern philosophical and sociological concepts differently delimiting as distinct from modern society. General overview of contemporary society change characteristics proceeding from these analyses is the basis of rather different ways of pedagogical thinking followings. With three pedagogical conceptions simultaneously present in nowadays pedagogical discourse, but originally emerged in different eras and different social backgrounds I am trying to point to considerable antinomy demands on present aims of education. I am delineating which phrasings of social reality the contemporary Czech educational policy is rising from. I am stating that the reduction of social reality as background of education in general can lead to formation of ambivalences in suggested educational policy solutions. Finally this diploma work is trying to put forward brief proposals for solution of these new problems of education.

Kramerius' Newspapers in the Years 1790 - 1793 and Their Role in Shaping the Czech National Identity

This thesis deals with problematic of public space at the edge of modernity in Kramerius newspapers in Czech. The first part gatheres together the results from existing research literature, discusses the question of the relationship between modernity and postmodernity that leads to the theoretical and methodological background of authors approach. The second part deals with the influences that shape the final content of Kramerius' Newspapers. Newspapers are seen as part of a broader discursive network. It is also the reader, who gets a word in a process of establishing the final content. Among other, this chapter focuses on the issue of creating a community of readers and the public sphere in Bohemia in the late 18th century as a preconditon for ethnic or even the national identity. The last part concentrates on specific topics in Kramerius' Newspapers, the reporting and processing techniques, which aim is to shape the reader and his view on observed events. The work ends with a statement that Kramerius' Newspapers by the content as well as form created a wider readership community, which maintained a certain social ties and also shared a certain form of the public sphere. Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation

This thesis Czechoslovak (Czech) Radio Broadcasting and Cultural Innovation is designed as a cultural study of radio boradcasting development in years 1923 - 1999. Radio broadcasting development is interpreted as a process of cultural change. The aim of this thesis is to capture spreading innovation of the radio and describe the stages of this cultural change. The thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical part and an empirical part. The theoretical part defines basic problems, deals with the theory of culture and media, the characteristics of radio communication. Particular attention is paid to description of the conditions affecting formation and development of the radio. The main focus of this work is to describe the radio development in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The second part is devoted to analysis of empirical data and sources, predominantly to secondary and historical analysis of accessible data regarding the radio. The major emphasis is placed on culturological interpretation of results of the analysis. This part also summarizes the importance of cultural innovation in terms of development of the Czechoslovak and Czech radio broadcasting. Paola Mastrocola vs. Contemporary Italian Society. Thematic analysis of author's narrative and essay works.

The topic of this thesis is a thematic analysis of literary works of contemporary Italian writer Paola Mastrocola. The introduction is a short introduction of the author (her biographical and bibliographical data). After that there is a research of the most important topics that are shown the most in the Mastrocola's works (both prose and essays). The following section focuses on the artist's work with exaggeration, the use of irony or humor and comic elements, the difference between direct and indirect criticism. The conclusion summarizes the thematic analysis and the main common attributes of Paola Mastrocola's production. Finally, there is a sketched picture of contemporary Italian society, which the reader gains from her works. The suicide - Masaryk's lifelong problem

The work is focused on the theme of suicide in the presentation of T. G. Masaryk. Author's aim is to chart the Masaryk's life in such a way as to affect how the topic of suicide goes through the Masaryk's life and how is reflected in his work and opinions on the modern society. Is also pointed out, how this theme, in the background of Masaryk's philosophy, sociology and theology, mingles into all of these areas and connects them. The first part is devoted to young childhood of Masaryk and to his experience at the beginning of his academic career. It is outlined, how Masaryk got to know the theme of suicide and how he took it as his own. Another section is devoted to his personality and personal views on the world. Substantial part of the work is then focused on the interpretation of the religion and the modern developments of society in the administration of Masaryk and his theory of suicide. Following this, the author deals not only with this work demonstrative moral decay of society, but also with other Masaryk's works, in which is the problem of suicide reflected.
