Ultrasonographic evaluation of cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with Fabry disease
Paleček, Tomáš ; Bultas, Jan (advisor) ; Pudil, Radek (referee) ; Kittnar, Otomar (referee)
Fabry disease is an X-linked glycosphingolipid storage disorder caused by deficient activity of the lysosomal enzyme α-galactosidase A. This leads to progressive intracellular accumulation of neutral glycosphingolipids, mainly globotriaosylceramide. Besides various extracardiac disease-related abnormalities, cardiovascular involvement represents a typical manifestation of Fabry disease. The primary underlying mechanism relies on pathological substrate accumulation in cardiomyocytes, conduction system cells, valvular fibroblasts, endothelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. The development of cardiac and vascular hypertrophy represents a characteristic cardiovascular feature of Fabry disease. The aim of our studies was to describe in detail cardiovascular abnormalities in patients with Fabry disease using ultrasonography, which currently represents basic noninvasive imaging modality in cardiology. We focused on structural and functional abnormalities of ventricles, valvular apparatus and their relationship to vascular involvement expressed on common carotid arteries. We also compared the diagnostic accuracy of the two novel echocardiographic methods used for the left ventricular diastolic function assessment. The possible existence of circulating proliferative factor, which might be associated with...

Blažková, Kristýna ; Kovář, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
This thesis deals with development of approach of Sir Winston Churchill to European integration during the years 1945 to 1955. It tries to capture the change in Churchill's views and attitudes since the Prime Minister was Clement Attlee, until when he returned to this office himself. And both in terms of integration and national affairs. For this reason the work outlines the development of several major integration efforts and organizations, from the Council of Europe to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The thesis also analyzes Churchill's relationship with the United States and the Soviet Union and its efforts to achieve a summit meeting between these two States and Great Britain. Conciliation and agreement with Russia became for Churchill after 1951 a priority and therefore is to this topic devoted a large part in the conclusion of this thesis.

The symbology of the animals in "The New Advice" by Smil Flaška z Pardubic
The thesis analyses personality traits symbolically attributed to animals, based on literary sources from the 14th century, primarily "The New Advice" (Nová rada) by Smil Flaška z Pardubic. The comparison of "The New Advice" to the factual historical events reveals close connection to the formation of the lordship in the 14th century and author's ambitions to advise the king of the appropriate relationship between king and nobility. The thesis also shows that the addressed symbology has evolved in the 16th century towards more realistic understanding of animal characteristics.

The municipal real-gymnasium of Malá Strana in 1865-1891
Veselá, Jana ; Randák, Jan (referee) ; Hlavačka, Milan (advisor)
The paper's topíc is Czech secondary education in the second half of the 19th century. It generally follows the development of the education system in Austria and discusses the consequences of the Exner-Bonitz school reform from 1849. This reform created two main types of secondary schools: the gymnasium and the real school. As a result of theoretical debates about a single, unified sec on dary school, a new type of school emerges in the Czech lands, the so-called real-gymnasium, a combination ofboth previous types. In the 1860s, new schools are being founded in the Czech lands by the individua! municipalities who also provide the funding. The paper selects one of them, the real-gymnasium in Malá Strana, Prague, as a model example and follows its development as a mixed type of secondary school and also the economic and administrative implications of its existence and the efforts of the city council to hand it over into the hands of the state. The relationship between the city officials and the Austrian Ministry of cult and education is analysed. Methodologically, the paper also discusses the use of autobiographical fiction in literature as a source for the study of everyday life in history. Considering the participants in the school situation, the paper's focus lies on students, their social standing and...

King, knight, squire and their virtues according to the Old Czech romance Tristram and Izalda
Kotrbová, Jana ; Fantysová Matějková, Jana (referee) ; Bobková, Lenka (advisor)
The thesis deals with an Old Czech novel in verse Tristram and Izalda. Initially, I examine the genre of chivalric novel in the context of Czech literature of the thirteenth and fourteenth century. I am interested in the view of literary history on these texts and primarily in the assessment of Tristram and Izalda. I pursue the reception of the Tristanian topic in the Czech environment, which has first been introduced to the German versions of this epic. The Old Czech translation from second half of 14th century gains from three German sources that are variously combined. I endeavour to use the novel as a source reflecting the ideological world of the Czech aristocracy of late mediaeval times. I have defined - on the basis of the characters present in the novel - four social groups: rulers, knights and court officials, noble women and servants. On the selected virtues - faithfulness, generosity, wisdom and honour - and social relationships - friendship, marriage and love - I observe the way of their depiction at individual social groups. Each social position carries different expectations. The attribution of characteristic features and the preferred type of behaviour reveal a clear hierarchy. The central character is the knight, to whom the other groups are always specifically related. In my opinion, the...

Swiss Neutrality at the Beginning of the 21st Century
Krčmářová, Michaela ; Eichler, Jan (advisor) ; Dubský, Zbyněk (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the neutrality of Switzerland. Switzerland is a state which has been practicing the politics of neutrality for the longest to the world. The introductory section defines the terms of neutrality, security and war. The second part is devoted to the historical development of the neutrality of Switzerland. Because of the almost five hundred-year practice of neutrality the understanding of history of Swiss neutrality is important for its current form. Neutrality is not an unchanging concept, but it evolves with the development of society and the world. It also responds to some major world events, such as the First and Second World War or the Cold War. The neutrality experienced big changes at the turn of the 90s, after the end of the Cold War. The developing relationship of Switzerland with certain international organizations which agree with its neutrality is shown in this thesis as well. Doctrinal documents in which the Swiss neutrality is enshrined are also included.

Historical Development of the International Co-operative Alliance
Závitkovská, Lucie ; Vávrová, Vladimíra (advisor) ; Dohnalová, Marie (referee)
This diploma work describes the process of historical development of the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA) prior to its formation, formation in 1895, to the present. It also contains key moments in the relationships between ICA and the Czech area of co-operation. The work considers not only internal development of the ICA, but also the external circumstances which influenced it. The aim of the work is to show the course of the process of historical development of the ICA as a reflection of development and needs of the growing co-operative movement in the world, i.e. how the development and growing significance of co-operation reflected the situation of the ICA. It focuses on the main developmental line of the ICA and co-operative movement, in order to follow its continuity. The work answers three research questions: how did the world co-operative movement influence the situation of the ICA? Which significant milestones influenced the situation of the ICA? How did the Czech co-operation participate in ICA activities?
