Awareness of food labelling among patients suffering with obesity and diabetes
Hálová, Nikol ; Brunerová, Ludmila (advisor) ; Anděl, Michal (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the awareness of food labelling among patients with obesity and diabetes. The aim of the thesis is to determine the knowledge of these patients about food labelling and their opinions on this topic. Furthermore, the thesis examines the influence of food labelling on the dietary habits of patients with obesity and diabetes, as well as the possibilities for improving awareness of food labelling among these patients. The research was conducted in the form of an anonymous questionnaire, which helped identify the level of knowledge and attitudes of patients with obesity and diabetes towards food labelling. The results showed that awareness of food labelling significantly influences the dietary habits of patients. Patients with higher levels of knowledge about food labelling are more likely to make informed and healthier decisions when choosing foods. The thesis also identified the main barriers that prevented patients from effectively utilizing food labelling, such as small font sizes on labels, complexity of information, and inadequate understanding of labelling. Proposed measures to improve awareness include the implementation of educational programs, practical demonstrations, and interactive workshops focused on proper label reading. Additionally, collaboration with dietitians...

This thesis focuses on the analysis of the media representation of beauty and health in the advertising campaigns of the three largest drugstore players on the Czech market - dm drogerie-markt, ROSSMANN and Teta. Through a series of structured focus groups, I gathered qualitative data from three generational groups (Generation X, Generation Y and Generation Z) to describe how the advertising campaigns of Czech drugstores influence consumers' attitudes and perceptions of beauty and health and their purchasing behaviour. The treatment of this topic provides a new perspective on how drug companies communicate with their target audience and shape their perception of beauty and health. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the theoretical background and historical context of the drugstores dm drogerie markt, ROSSMANN and Teta. The practical part of the thesis is devoted to the research methodology, the focus groups themselves and then the presentation of the results and their summary. The results of the conducted research show that two dominant images and ideals of beauty prevail in the advertising campaigns of Czech drug companies. The effect of the smoking ban in bars and restaurants on the health of the non-smoking population in Czech Republic
Bláhová, Adéla ; Votápková, Jana (advisor) ; Lušková, Martina (referee)
In 2017, the Czech Republic became one of many European countries to adopt a comprehensive smoking ban prohibiting smoking in various public places including bars and restaurants. This thesis estimates the effect of this policy on the health of Czech non-smokers. To evaluate the impact of the smoking ban, we apply the difference-in-differences method to compare our treatment group, i.e. Czech non-smoking population, with the control group represented by non- smokers from the Slovak Republic, where such a policy was not implemented. The study used micro-level data from the European Health Interview Survey in 3 subsequent waves: 2009, 2014, and 2019. Two econometric models were employed on two distinct dependent variables, that were chosen as proxies of health. Firstly, the presence of longstanding health problem is modeled utilizing logistic regression. Subsequently, the number of nights spent in the hospital in the past 12 months is estimated by a Zero-inflated negative binomial model. We found a significant decrease in both the probability of experiencing a longstanding health problem and the expected number of nights spent in the hospital, suggesting that the smoking ban positively affected the health of the Czech non-smoking population. Keywords smoking ban, health, passive smoking, EHIS, Czech...
