Field Practice - Space for Inquiry Science Education at Primary School

This thesis deals with the topic of science curriculum. It contains suggestions and realizations of four nature walks. The theoretical part defines the concept of excursion, walk and research-oriented teaching. The practical part is based on the preparation and realization of four walks near the school. The aim of this work is to suggest and realize simple research activities around the school. Another aim is to verify their functionality and evaluate the pupils´success during their realization. This work shows not only pupils but also teachers, another, more interesting approach in the science education. It builds pupils´ interest and positive attitude to the nature and strengthens their knowledge of science. It develops and acquires new knowledge through the method of pupil´s research. This work is intended for the pupils of 4th and 5th grade of primary school with FEP educational program. Worksheets for individual seasons have been prepared for the walks.

Topical walks with preschool children oriented to environmental activities

Praha: Fakulty of Education University of Praha, 2010. 126 pp. The main goal of this diploma thesis is the global observation of the nature while going out with children at kindergarten. Current curriculum is part of this thesis because kindergarten teachers have to plan and realize all the activities in relation to the recent curriculum. New possibilities for the pedagogical activities are compared as well. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I am dealing with the main issues in relation to the chosen topic. The idea is backed up by available literature. In the practical part of my thesis, I am using questionnaires. The purpose is to find out whether the kindergarten teachers globally plan the observation of the nature in their education programs. The evaluation is included as well. The evaluation should be used to plan the activities which will be further planned and carried out. Botanical (Dendrological) Walks on the Territory of Děčín

In this thesis, we are introduced to terrain-style (on-spot) approach to teaching botany and dendrology subjects on high school or high vocational school. The main goal of this thesis was to point out interesting spots in the city of Děčín from the dendrological point of view and design optimal walk routes for them. In the introductory part, the terrain-style approach in teaching is described, including its various types, goals, specifics of preparation phase and possibilities of using mobile applications as a tool for botany and dendrology teaching. We also wrote up about the topic of including terrain-style teaching of botany and dendrology into curricular school documents. In next segment, we described interesting spots in the city of Děčín from the dendrological point of view, such as: Zámecké zahrady (Palace gardens), Mariánská louka (Mariánská meadow) or Lesopark Kvaderberg (Kvaderberg forrest park). Overall, we designed eight walk routes.
The natural phenomena of the Petrovice region and their use in primary science education

This diploma thesis deals with natural science and homeland topics. It includes suggestions for three nature walks with a focus on reviewing and extending the curriculum of the fourth and fifth grades of elementary school. It has a theoretical part related to the curriculum, describes various methods and forms of teaching, suggests walks and includes didactic materials. The thesis aims to nurture pupils' relationship with nature through experiential learning activities, to build their knowledge and to familiarize them with Petrovice and its surroundings.

Lowland forests in Czech Republic

Novoměstská M. 2015: Lowland forests in Czech Republic - educational project. Bachelor thesis, Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. 56 pp. The main aim of this thesis is to inform ISCED 2 school pupils about the landscape of Czech Republic, specifically about the large herbivores role in the forest structure and with the traditional ways of forest management, through the use of educational program - tour in National Park Podyjí. This thesis is divided into two parts. The theoretical part describes the landscape development since the last ice age, emphasizes the importance of old or dead trees in forest and the introduction to NP Podyjí. The practical part describes the tour itself. The results of the knowledge test of the tour attendants are included in the thesis. The knowledge of lowland forests was significantly higher not only immediately after the tour, but also one year after the tour attendance. The educational program can thus be evaluated as permanent effective in the sense of gained knowledge about lowland forests.
