U3V as an opportunity to fulfill a concept of active aging. A qualitative study of U3V students at Charles University

The thesis deals with the topic of Third Age Universities in the context of the active aging concept. In the theoretical part the topic is set in the problem of an aging population and social aspects of retirement. In short, U3V history in the world and in the Czech Republic is introduced. The concept of active aging is defined differently, so for the purposes of research chosen definition consisting of three fundamental aspects - the active lifestyle, inclusion and material security. Qualitative research through interviews with U3V students at Charles University in Prague explores how these aspects are implemented from the perspective of the students. Active lifestyle for seniors is supported by the expansion of knowledge, supporting programs and physical activity. In school, students make new friendships, which often go outside courses. In both of these aspects for seniors is particularly important 'quality' of the options, i.e. the level of provided knowledge and intelligence and interests of new friends. Seniors, who study together with younger students, and those who attend separate courses, consider intergenerational encounters beneficial and enriching for both groups. Education of Seniors in Civil Society Organizations in the Czech Republic

Organisations of different type and legal status engage in senior education in the Czech Republic. Civil society organisations available online are not the dominant providers of educational courses and activities for seniors in the Czech Republic. Civil society organisations represent 17 % of all providers of educational courses available online. Six civil society organisations engaged in senior education were found in the region Vysočina. Participants of the educational courses consider all activities practised in these courses to be education because they learn new skills there. They appreciate these courses for the education itself, for meaningful free time spending and for the opportunity of active life even in the time of senescence. For nearly the most important point considered by the participants so as the organisators is connecting and broadening of social contacts of the participants and creating of social network. This can be considered for the most distinct manifestation of civil society concerning senior education.
Education of older adults in the area in of new media

In the paper characterized were chosen, most important determinants of educating seniors in the matter of new media. Learning and teaching of seniors were depicted through "non-formal system" created by Universities of Third Age (U3A). Actions of teacher and adult students connected with the effective learning about possibilities connected with new media discussed were in following dimensions: social changes, transformations of education of people in late adulthood, individual features of seniors and institutional and theoretical solutions in the matter of andragogy and educational gerontology. The book also contains a chapter in which described were transformations of society by new media and causes and results of digital exclusion among seniors. The crucial part of the paper is a practical answer to the question, how to educate seniors in "non-formal education system" in the matter of electronic media? To achieve this, presented was a complex methodical proposition derived from andragogical and geragogical theories with a reference to didactic practice of the author in computer sections of universities of third age. A stand of the students of the Third Age University at Charles University on their oldness

The thesis is focused on the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age to their own old age. The definition of the theoretical context in the first part focuses on the issues of aging and old age in connection with identifying the quality of life of seniors. This section is also focused on the topic Universities of the Third Age, their historical context in the current form. In the research part the results of the survey have been presented. To achieve the research objective, a quantitative research strategy, a method of questioning, was used. Specifically, a standardized questionnaire of attitudes to age and aging (AAQ) was used, which was developed by the World Health Organization. The main aim of this thesis was to determine the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age at the Charles University to their own old age and then to compare these attitudes with a group of inactive seniors. Another subject of the research was also the influence of the social-demographic indicators on the attitudes of seniors to age and motivation of the undergraduates to study at the University of the Third Age. Social and virtual life of seniors

1 Abstract This bachelor thesis deals with the problems of old age and aging, both as an individual stage in the life of every human being and from a social perspective. The issue of old age is important in the context of a modern society dependent on communication and information technologies - computers and the internet. Therefore, this thesis is devoted to seniors in regard to their internet usage and computer literacy. The introductory section presents an initial discussion of the issue of aging, the active life of seniors and the internet, one of the main expressions of modern technology, which acts as a structuring factor for the position of the individual in society, based on access to this technology and the utilization rate. The empirical section then describes the specific steps of carrying out quantitative research that the author of this thesis carried out in the spring of 2011 on a sample of 252 seniors. The text also introduces the research question, the hypothesis, the research methodology, the creation of the instrument, its testing and the process of investigation. University of the third age as a part of lifelong learning system

The bachelor's thesis "University of the third age as a part of lifelong learning system" is focused on the University of the Third Age and their candidates, who are people of retirees and their motivation for learning. In the theoretical part are characterized possibilities of senior's education and motivation, and needs which are focused on seniors. In the next part of bachelor's thesis is characterized by the development and establishment of the University of the Third Age (U3A) and summarized the possibilities of education at the University of the Third Age at CULS Prague (Czech University of Life Sciences Prague). The practical part is devoted to a survey, exactly the questionnaire survey, for which were approached the respondents from courses U3A at CULS Prague. The results of collected data are compared with the input hypoteses and assessing what motivates seniors to education in the final section of bachelor's thesis.
University of the Third Age as part of lifelong learning system

The bachelor's thesis titled "University of the Third Age as part of lifelong learning system" deals with senior education with focus on the University of the Third Age. In the theory part, some important terms are explained there according to special literature, senior education is described there and also other educational opportunities for seniors in the Czech republic. There is also characterized the University of the Third Age, its history and how it works abroad. The thesis focuses also on the University of the Third Age at the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague (CULS). The application part is focused on finding some information about students of the University of the Third Age at CULS. Concretely, the thesis discovers who the students of the University of the Third Age at CULS are, their satisfaction with lectors, their general satisfaction with the University of the Third Age at CULS and which topics they would be interested in. The quastionnaires in a paper form were used for the survey.

Bachelor thesis Specifics of Senior Citizen Education and Possible Approaches in Their Education Process is concerned with the education of seniors and possible approaches in their activation. The aim is to provide a comprehensive view of education of seniors in the broader context of a naturally talk about aging and old age as a part of our lives. It deals with definition of terms relating to the issue of seniors, summarizes approaches to education in the past and presents contemporary trends. It refers to the fact anchoring requirement seniors' education in Czech and international documents and describes the specifics that senior education entails. In the end of one of the largest organizations in Prague (Life 90), which offers seniors active leisure. The practical part is focused on qualitative research case studies treating the elderly who attend the Day care centers in Life 90 interview with the head of this center. Case reports represent an incentive for older persons themselves to education and an interview with a senior center closer to the action manager, which provides educational activities for seniors and they are in daily contact.
Seniors and their Access to Sport Activities

The thesis deals with the participation and access of seniors to the regular physical activities. The theoretical part is focused on the issue of improving the participation of inactive seniors in physical activities and also keywords are defined. The practical part presents the results of the questionnaire undertaken among seniors. There are certain shortcomings of this issue pointed out and some suggestions for possible solutions are presented. The thesis is focused on seniors in Brno and its surroundings. In the practical part these are divided into two groups. The participants of Exercise studio for seniors functioning at the University of the Third Age at Brno University of Technology are compared with the same sample of seniors from Brno and its surroundings.
