Support tools in education - The impact of increasing of the time allowance on the performance of pupils with specific learning disabilities

The dissertation focuses on the analysis of support measures in the education of pupils with special educational needs. The main area of the study is to increase the time allowance for the work of pupils with specific learning disabilities, which is one of the most frequently chosen forms of support for these pupils. After presenting the theoretical basis of the study, the research itself is presented. The research is a quantitative analysis of the performance of 9th grade elementary school students. The research group included pupils with SPU (N = 31) and intact pupils (N = 188). The students worked on the I-S-T 2000 R Intelligence Structure Test and their performance was statistically processed. Pupils with SPU had 25% more of time for work available than intact pupils, but they were also evaluated in basic time. We worked with their performance in the form of gross scores (that is correctly filled in items), the gross scores were not converted into intelligence quotients. Statistically significant results were found in the following areas. Pupils with SPU performed statistically significantly better within their group in all evaluated scales and subtests if they worked with increasing time (than in basic time). Conceptualization of the departmental school model

The dissertation deals with the conceptualization of the model of the departmental school as a way of realization of managerial practices of students of the study programme School Management at the Faculty of Education of Charles University. The aim of the dissertation is to propose a concept of transferring specific knowledge and experience of secondary school principals by appropriate methods at management practices implemented in departmental schools to students of the study programme School Management, usable to transform their knowledge acquired in the theoretical part of teaching into skills applicable in practice in the school field. The theoretical part of the dissertation defines the departmental school as a place to transfer knowledge from experienced school principals to students, specifies the possibilities of managing and transferring explicit and tacit knowledge in the organization through a managerial approach, in the case of schools also through a pedagogical approach using experiential learning, and identifies the work activities and competencies of the manager and school principal. Diagnostics of specific learning difficulties from the position of the lower primary school teacher

V současné době se v naší populaci vyskytuje mnoho jedinců, kteří trpí specifickou poruchou učení. Proto, aby docházelo u těchto jedinců ke zlepšení či úplné nápravě, je zapotřebí především co nejdříve poruchu podchytit - tzn. diagnostikovat specifickou poruchu učení v co nejrannějším věku. Např. již v MŠ je možné si povšimnout v rámci předškolních prohlídek oslabení funkcí důležitých pro počáteční čtení a psaní. Diagnostiku specifických poruch učení lze však provádět až na ZŠ - a to především od konce prvního ročníku, kdy již dítě umí číst a psát. A vzhledem k tomu, že se SPU objevují nejvýrazněji ve školních aktivitách, případně úkol diagnostiky právě učitelům, kteří musí být všímaví a případných obtíží si u dětí všimnout. Bylo by tedy dobré, kdyby učitelé měli základní znalosti ze speciální pedagogiky a uměli diagnostikovat SPU. Jak tomu ve skutečnosti je? Mají učitelé 1. stupně ZŠ potřebné znalosti diagnostiky specifických poruch učení? Dokáží udělat prvotní diagnostiku specifických poruch učení u dětí? School Improvement: Supporting School-Based Teacher Professional Development

The dissertation explores teacher professional development as a strategy for improving school performance. The theoretical part defines school quality, teacher quality, and instruction quality. It further talks about teacher professional development, specifically strategies that involve teacher's reflective practices and teacher collaboration. The practical part of the dissertation examines the characteristics and impact of a five year support model of school based teacher professional development. The process was closely observed through case studies of four subjects in a particular school. The findings reveal that the implemented model contributed to the changes in the principal's leadership style, school culture and climate the most. Continuity of pre-primary and primary education from the point of view of management of integrated kindergartens and primary schools in the context of Czech curricular reform

The objective of the dissertation thesis are to conduct the first research survey in continuity of pre-primary and primary education from the perspective of management in integrated kindergartens and primary schools in the Czech Republic. It studies school heads' opinions on continuity of pre-primary and primary education in the context of curricular reform an well as how they put this continuity in practice of their schools. The topic of dissertation thesis is defined by school management and curricular reform. The theoretical part focuses on the triad of the following concepts: management, continuity and curricular reform. The concepts are linked to the environment of integrated pre-primary and primary schools. At the same time, the head teacher's role in the specific conditions of this type of school is reflected. The theoretical framework builds on theories from management and pedagogy. The empirical part focuses in more detail on exploring the role of one of the actors in ensuring continuity of pre-primary and primary education, the head of the school.
