Innovation and Interaction: Relationships between Global Production Networks and Regional Innovation Systems in Czechia
Horák, Petr ; Květoň, Viktor (advisor) ; Ženka, Jan (referee) ; Dvouletý, Ondřej (referee)
- 6 - Abstract The aim of this dissertation was to expand the knowledge on the relationships between the quality of regional innovation systems (RIS) and the localization of firms within global production networks (GPNs) in Czechia. A key aspect was to understand the interaction between the different firms involved in GPNs and their R&D collaboration. The thesis also focused on different aspects of leading firms in GPNs according to their urban and rural localisation. Given the importance of RIS quality for innovation processes, the effects of R&D support on firm competitiveness were examined in the context of regional effects. Furthermore, the paper analyzes the effect of the different innovation performance of regions on knowledge spillovers through patent offshoring. The findings of this dissertation expand the understanding of the interactions between RIS and GPN, contribute to a broader understanding of economic geography, and suggest future research avenues. First, it shows that more interconnected firms (with GPNs) and subcontractors without autonomy are not significantly linked by publicly supported in R&D collaborations. Second, intensive involvement in collaborative R&D provides resilience to economic shocks. Third, leading firms in Czechia differ significantly depending on their location, with...
Evaluation of Freight Railway Transport Importance Case Study the Královéhradecký Region
Kasper, Tomáš ; Květoň, Viktor (advisor) ; Chmelík, Jakub (referee)
To move freight transport from overloaded roads to railway is a frequently discussed topic. In this paper we focused on the evaluation of the importance of rail freight, our example was the Královéhradecký region. In the paper we judge if the evaluation of the rail freight will be higher in regions with worse road locations and conditions. Attention will be also focused on position of the rail freight with the growing size of regions. Another view of this paper is the evaluation of importance of the rail freight with growing quantilies and structures of companies with discussing other factors which may affect importance of rail freight. Key words: transport, railway, freight
Exploring structural changes of employment in rural Czechia: territorial approach
Čapkovičová, Andrea ; Jančák, Vít (advisor) ; Květoň, Viktor (referee) ; Konečný, Ondřej (referee)
The thesis searches for driving forces behind structural changes of rural employment in the example of Czechia subject to changing rural paradigm and the related question of rural economic viability represented by the employment performance. The research elaborates on the territorial approaches which categorises regions according to their degree of rurality. In addition, the detailed classification is made according to the change of non-agricultural employment in the period 2001-2011 in order to identify dynamic regions which showed performance above national average (leading) and those which lacked behind (lagging). The observations prompt the question why is the performance differentiated. Therefore, the regionally differentiated impact of processes such as deagriculturisation, deindustrialisation and tertiarisation in the period 2001-2011 is analysed by the use of analysis of components (namely shift-share analysis) and multivariate analysis (namely factor and cluster analysis). The thesis aims to provide answers in particular by giving a thorough analysis of how the changing rural paradigm (and regional theories in wider context) conceptualise the driving forces behind employment development in rural areas. The added value is in the analysis of interrelations and correlations of chosen...
The changes of transport flows and accesibility in Pilsen region in relation to the settlement system
Brož, Petr ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Květoň, Viktor (referee)
The issue of transport is currently one of the most discussed topics, thanks to deepening regional differentiation causing increased demands on the quality of existing transport links. Especially the attractiveness of centers and the existence of good transport infrastructure, stimulating the development of the region (his success), is becoming one of the most debated issues of our times. This diploma thesis deals with the comparison and evaluation of changes in spatial interaction in the settlement of the Plzeň/ Pilsen region in two time slices (1991 and 2001). Analysis of the interactions of traffic will be done by using statistical methods and using GIS technology. Main attention will be paid to the spatial differentiation of the frequency of traffic flows and transport accessibility. Subsequently, the transport characteristics will be compared with the characteristics of the complex importance of settlement, so the basic relationships between these indicators can be found. Keywords: spatial interaction, accessibility, frequency of public transport, traffic flows, transport regionalization, Plzeň/ Pilsen region.
The Influence of Construction of Rapid Rail Dejvická-Nemocnice Motol on Land Values Using Geographically Weighted Regression
Pejřil, Kryštof ; Květoň, Viktor (advisor) ; Netrdová, Pavlína (referee)
The objective of this bachelor thesis is to examine the impacts of the construction of rapid rail Dejvická-Nemocnice Motol on land values in the adjacent areas. The major impact of opening of the rapid rail section is an attractiveness improvement of station neighbourhood, which results in land value uplift. The intensity of this phenomenon is compared to the influences of selected price-making factors: noisiness, proximity of public greenery and school facilities accessibility. The analysis utilizes the method of geographically weighted regression (GWR), a statistical method, which deals with the varying relationships of the phenomenon over space and allows better understanding of their spatial context. There was not proved a statistically significant effect of walking-accessibility of the stations on land values, however, this might reveal an analysis of larger extent. The results confirm a necessity of very careful approach to the particular local specifics contributing to land values. In the conclusion some limitations of a usage of GWR are discussed with respect to the urban structure. Keywords: rapid rail, land values, geographically weighted regression
Transport Accessibility of Second Homes: Selected Localities in the Benešov Region
Kolísek, Michal ; Květoň, Viktor (advisor) ; Vondráčková, Petra (referee)
This thesis deals with the differentiation of the accessiblity of second-homes facilities, primarily using means of public transport. The first part adresses the problem with the published literature. Second part deals with a case study carried out in selected localities of the Benešov region. Transport accessibility was observed at two levels - frequency and temporal. In addition to the current accessibility, the historical development since the beginning of the eighties was found out. Following the changes in public transport, the consecutive integrating of particular localities into the integrating transport system was also observed.
