Employability of graduates of the follow-up master's programme in addictology with an original bachelor's degree in another field
Černá, Kateřina ; Lososová, Amalie (advisor) ; Šťastná, Lenka (referee)
Background: The follow-up Master's programme in Addictology was first opened in the academic year 2010/2011. Applicants from the graduates of the bachelor's programme in addictology as well as graduates of other bachelor's programmes are eligible to apply. Miovsky et al. (2021) give examples of applicants from related fields such as psychology, social work or general nursing. Candidates studying the programme do not gain eligibility to practise as an addictologist; it is an interest-based study. The employability of graduates of the master's degree in addictology alone has not yet been mapped separately. Pavlovska (2018) examined in detail the employability of all graduates of addictology from 2008 to 2016. The study expands on this work by specifically focusing on the employability of master's-only graduates with an original bachelor's degree in another discipline and adds data through January 2023. Aims: The aim of the research is to map the employability of graduates of a follow-up Master's programme in Addictology with an original Bachelor's degree in another discipline. Methods: 73 respondents formed the core sample. The respondents were approached by total sampling method, the sample was selected by self-selection. The research sample consisted of 49 respondents, the return rate was 67%. Data...
The quality of social services provision in homes for people with disabilities
Černá, Kateřina ; Bartoň, Daniel (advisor) ; Janečková, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Quality of social services in homes for people with disabilities", deals with homes for people with disabilities and characterizes them. Specifically, their activities, normative component, target group (people with disabilities) and overall how such a home for people with disabilities works and how it should look like. The next part of the thesis is focused on monitoring their quality through social services inspections and systematic visits by the ombudsman, because the quality of the service is crucial for this thesis (and for social work in general). After this theoretical view (one could say description of an ideal state), an analytical part follows, which compares the outlined essentials of the functioning of the service (according to the legislation and other regulations) with the actual state of the functioning of these services, which is based on detailed research by the Ombudsman from 2019. The analytical part also includes charts that come from this research, which are explained and described and individually evaluated on the basis of these findings. The entire analytical section is then reviewed and the most significant findings are highlighted. The result of the research shows that the situation in homes for people with disabilities is still not ideal. Some of the...
The foreign policy of the United States of America towards Nicaragua after the Cuban Revolution
Černá, Kateřina ; Perutka, Lukáš (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
This thesis examines the foreign policy of the United States towards Nicaragua between 1961-1973. When the John F. Kennedy administration took office in 1961, there was concern about developments in Cuba and, in particular, the possibility of a similar fate in Latin American countries. This concern gave rise to the largest foreign aid program up to that time, the Alliance for Progress. Although it was a comprehensive aid scheme taking into account both economic and social issues, the results of the Alliance were contradictory. Nicaragua was a case in point. This paper uses the case study method to explain the results of the Alliance for Progress using Nicaragua as an example. By synthesizing literary sources and secondary literature, the various objectives of the Alliance for Progress are evaluated. The first part of the thesis examines the political situation of the United States both domestically and globally. The second part of the thesis describes the nature of the Alliance for Progress, the fulfilment of its goals, and the implications for the people of the Republic of Nicaragua. The thesis concludes that in the case of Nicaragua, the Alliance for Progress succeeded in the economic sphere. However, the vast majority of social issues remained unresolved and the Alliance's main objective, to...
Interspecific and intraspecific variation in gastrointestinal microbiota composition of parrots and its association with incidence of selected disorders
Černá, Kateřina ; Vinkler, Michal (advisor) ; Rychlík, Ivan (referee)
Captive parrots are susceptible to various digestive, metabolic, and behavioural disorders. Recent research in other vertebrates has suggested that these disorders can be linked to the gut microbiota, directly or through the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Although many commercial probiotic products intended for the use in parrots advertise beneficial effects on digestion and mental well- being, these statements are not sufficiently supported with publicly available scientific evidence, but probably rather based on the extrapolation of the knowledge of microbiota-gut-brain interactions in poultry, mice, and humans. However, there are substantial differences in the gastrointestinal tract morphology and gut microbiota composition between parrots and these model vertebrates. This thesis aimed to describe the interspecific and intraspecific variation in the gut microbiota composition of parrots and to link the variation in microbial communities to the incidence of eight selected behavioural and physiological disorders. The gut microbiota composition of 491 individuals from 85 parrot species was analysed using 16S rRNA metabarcoding. The host species, type of feed, and housing environment were identified as the main factors influencing the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota of parrots. A...
