Morphology of Armour
Bařák, Hynek ; Zálešák, Jan (referee) ; Kvíčala, Petr (advisor)
In my thesis, I was very inspired by middle age, whitch has huge influence on my work. It is a epoch of my interest, I am activelly interrested in it and it is with me throught all my live, practicaly since childhood. In painting there are mainly motives of knight´s armor, whitch is underlying cornerstone of my work. My interrest in armor is caused by it´s technical perfection, decorativeness and majesty in the late phase. In that time technicaly did not acted function of protection, but it acted represetativ function and we can see it like a art or statue. By technical site I really experiment with lots of different technics, in many cases I never stay on single one. I work with layers, underlay, with drawing as well as painting. With diferent washing or scribing I open lower layers, I react to it and then I repaint it, simply experimenting. It is almoust archeology back to the old layers of picture. Discovery, connection older layers with new ones. About the painters whose I am interrested in they are primarily Josef Bolf, Vladimír Kokolia, Jaroslav Róna, Giger, Wolfli, Jackson Pollock.

Pejčochová, Michaela ; Lomová, Olga (advisor) ; Černá, Zlata (referee) ; Jacoby, Marcin (referee)
Dong Qichang's Texts on Painting and their Relationship to Mi Fu's History of Painting Michaela PEJČOCHOVÁ Doctoral dissertation summary The study entitled Dong Qichang's Texts on Painting and their Relationship to Mi Fu's History of Painting presents an analysis of the critical texts on painting by two important figures of the old Chinese art world, Dong Qichang (1555-1636) and Mi Fu (1051-1107). It is based on the conviction that old historical and critical treatises on painting record information important for our understanding of the actual painting practice in ancient periods, which is difficult or even impossible to document by the surviving pictorial evidence. Both authors of the texts discussed here were scholars, artists, critics and collectors and counted among the foremost literati of their day - Mi Fu was one of the initiators of the "literati culture" during the Northern Song period (960-1127), while Dong Qichang with his theories was highly influential during its late phase. Their texts thus document literati opinions on the aesthetics and history of painting in their respective periods. The focus of the study is the corpus of Dong Qichang's texts on painting that includes treatises like The Significance of Painting (Huazhi), Notes from the Studio for Meditation over Painting (Huachanshi...

Bláha, Jan Daniel ; Soukup, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Václav (referee)
Cultural Aspects of Cartographic Creation: Use of Mental Maps in Cross-cultural Research Abstract: Diploma thesis deals with study of interdisciplinary issue of cultural aspects of cartographic creation. The first part of the work consists of theoretical introduction dealing with the map con- tent, map stylistics and map language, in which maps show the greatest cultural differences. The map figures here in a role of the image of reality and visual manifestation of culture. The analogy between a map and a classical language (linguistic anthropology) and the analogy between early maps and primitive cultures' maps are described. Beside the language, as determinants of the human spatial perception and other categories related to the map creation could be mentioned the environment, the experiences and the society, in which man lives. Several examples of so- called cultural map styles, especially from Australia and Oceania, are introduced as well. In the methodical part of the work in connection with cultural-anthropological research a method of cognitive maps, respectively mental maps of map users and map makers is discussed in detail. Just these maps are suitable to explore the cultural particularities of cartographic creation. The application part of the work presents the results of field research of mental...

The theme of the death in Bohumil Kubista's work in the years 1912-1918
Richterová, Helena ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Wittlich, Petr (referee)
The topic of this study are the paintings on the death theme in the meridian works of Bohumil Kubišta around the time of the first World War. This dilemma has not been elaborated on in any previous publication. The task focuses on individual paintings complemented by relevant sub-chapters as the painter's life was full of major circumstances influencing his work. Though the main focus is on Kubišta's production from the period between 1912 and 1918, the painting Resurrection of Lazarus (1911) was appended. This painting concludes Kubišta's classicist period, and becomes an important milestone in the painter's understanding of death which is still illuminated by the interpretation of old masters. St. Sebastian (1912) opens the dilemma in pursuit of self-stylization and response to the contemporary events. The other mentioned paintings, which are always depicting two figures aiming to detach us from reality, violently gripping the soul - Kiss of Death, Murder, Hypnotist (1912). The artist is portraying the relationship of the actor with his victim. Apart from figurative paintings, the theme of vanitas appears, for example in Still Life with Skull (1912). The enumeration of paintings is concluded by portrayals of military operations Fakir (1914), Hanged (1915).

Ecology Studio

A reflexion of Lima in the work of Julio Ramón Ribeyro
Torresová, Hana ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Fousek, Michal (referee)
The thesis aims at reflection of Lima in several pieces of literary work by Peruvian writer Julio Ramón Ribeyro: two novels Geniecillos dominicales and Cambio de guardia and chosen stories from his early work. Lima appeared in Peruvian literature even before, but it was Ribeyra who achieved to depict Lima's atmosphere thanks to his using modern techniques, which he acquired by reading European authors. He does not focus only on simple description of the city as the place where the characters meet and influence one another. On the contrary, descriptive scenes are in his work rare. They are mostly written in phrases without active verbs - this technique reminds us of film shots. A reader gets to know the characters according to their acting and expressions as well as according to the places where they move along and habits they keep. For better orientation, the thesis divides Ribeyro's view on Lima into three categories: the first comprises the city itself, with its streets, squares, buildings, means of transport, etc. Ribeyra intended to catch the changes in Lima in 50's, the time of great boom of industry, destruction of the old quarters of the city and construction of the new ones. He shows the nostalgia of the citizens who long for the old face of Lima, cling to old things and detest all the new and...

The nihilistic thinking of Friedrich Nietzsche and its reflection in the writings of Albert Camus
Korecká, Vendula ; Petříček, Miroslav (referee) ; Kouba, Pavel (advisor)
The diploma thesis is devoted to nihilism in the modern world, as shown in writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and Albert Camus. Non-existence of a finite sense of human acting is a key assumption to nihilism. The paper is trying to find a way out of non-sense, that is, out of nihilism. However, first we must accept nihilism as a whole. Only then we can overcome its negative aspects by human will. There is a parallel with the major role of philosophy according to Nietzsche; not a restatement of old thoughts, but a new thinking - revaluation of all values. This thinking must have not solely a new form, but also new conclusions. Albert Camus regards the loss of a finite sense as an omnipresent absurdity, which shall be overcome with a new attitude to life: a rebellion.
