Analysis of activities of the CzechTrade agency in key export markets - historical development of economic diplomacy of the Czech republic
Proch, Dominik ; Plchová, Božena (advisor) ; Kopecký, Jan (referee)
There are two purposes of this bachelor's thesis. The first one is to outline the shape of economic diplomacy of the Czech republic, more precisely Czechoslovakia, during the 20th century to the present state. On the grounds of gained data and information I intended mainly to defend the opinion that despite significantly deliberalized market since the early 50s there was institutional support for research and analytical activities, this country had a team of experts in the field and it is wrong marking this subcategory of diplomacy as an activity arisen recently. In the second half I focus more strongly on the CzechTrade agency as a representative of trade promotion. Initially, the company is briefly characterized, in the last chapter, its activities in key export markets are analyzed. BRICs countries were selected as examples of these markets, however, in-depth analysis is dedicated only to two of the countries, namely Brazil and India, because of limited range. The reason for my choice is enormous potential BRICs generally evince, the short-selection is influenced by less awareness of Brazilian and Indian markets compared to Chinese and Russian markets. Individual economies are defined by brief characteristics, form of mutual trade including its commodity structure as well as projects and services through which CzechTrade operates in a specific market. At the very end, the impact of agency's activities in these countries is summarized in terms of entering and doing business in the market.

Latin medieval hagiographie, its structure and influence in Bohemian lands
Izdný, Jakub ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee) ; Drška, Václav (advisor)
I try to compare latine legends of first European christian monarchs of the early Middle Ages in my work. This way I detected some standard type of hagiographical story with this topic. The conformity lies in the way of acceptation of baptism, appearance of two secondary persons - the wife, who is accepting the sanctity, and the missionary bishop - and not least in using the theme of battle for faith. Especially the character of pious wife seems to be very important in hagiography and implies obviously the realy way of spreading christian religion with the marriage policy. As well important are findings, that despite the quite wide time span between the genesis of the oldest and the latest compared text, amplified by the different historical situation of Germanic and Central European peoples, shows the hagiography considerable similarity and proves the cultural alliance of West and Central Europe.

Analysis of current segmentation procedures within the 3M Industry and Transportation department and recommendations for future segmentation approaches
Breitbach, Verena ; Lhotáková, Markéta (advisor) ; Cook, Gina (referee)
Abstract: The present Master thesis broaches the issue of market segmentation and its importance for the Industry and Transportation department of 3M Česko. Market segmentation has been recognized to be a very important tool for strategic marketing planning but currently, its implementation at 3M in the Czech Republic is in an early stage and therefore rather unorganized and not yet framed by precise guidelines. The hypothesis is that linking together need-based and descriptive customer behavior characteristics would lead to more effective market segmentation within the 3M Industry and Transportation department. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to first of all test if the hypothesis is right and if so develop a segmentation method that combines descriptive as well as need-based segmentation criteria. It is to be shown that such an approach could improve segmentation efforts at 3M Česko and lead to more reliable results. The question that arises is whether 3M has understood the benefits market segmentation can bring for the company. And what has to be done in order to improve clustering of customers and to increase 3M's sales volume? Can segmentation take place on one level or is a multi-layer approach the better option? The present study tries to answer these questions by comparing theoretical findings from an extensive literature review with results obtained from semistructured interviews with 3M sales and marketing managers. Above all, one of the main points for improvement in the future is the collection of more market data and the combination of primary data with secondary information already available. The interviews have shown that even though managers are aware of the difficulty to understand 3M's complex and broad market, the feeling predominates that not enough effort is put into gathering additional information. Furthermore, it is recommended to perform descriptive segmentation through the usage of industry coding on a division-wide level, whereas need-based segmentation will be subject of each division individually. Moreover, keeping track of customer data in a standardized database is the key to success. The given recommendations are divided into actions that can be undertaken in the short, medium and long run in order to reach a department-wide effective and efficient use of the multi-layer segmentation in an organized and timely manner.

Preacher and exemplum between scholar and popular culture in early modern period
Tomášek, Vojtěch ; Mikulec, Jiří (referee) ; Šedivá Koldinská, Marie (advisor)
This study deals with a two terms used in the context of culture and social history: the preacher and the exemplum. We depart from six Czech ear1y modem sermons published in the 17th and 18th century, especially from specific parts of them, those in which we can find those short moralizing stories, exempla. We analyse exemplum in its oral form as an communicative point between the preacher and his audience in the larger context of communication between a scholar and popular culture. Here we present sermonic exemplum as a specific type of ear1y modem medium. This study would attempt to outline some features of this communicative situation, especially preacher' s tendency to reform and discipline some aspects of everyday life in his community, that is everyday common problems of man and woman, problems of distributing gender roles and interconnected problems of drinking, domestic violence and sexuality. We have found two specific ways of communication preacher uses in exemplum: direct satire and tendentional description of ritua1. Speaking of the second one we expose the specific method, by which our preacher tries to change positive meaning of traditional ritual into the negative one. Therefore we c1aim that preacher wants to persuade his audience of absurdity inherent to use of some medical or magical...

Short-term effects of grass mixtures on nematodes inhabiting agricultural soil in the Bílé Karpaty Mts., Czech Republic - a preliminary study
Háněl, Ladislav
Short-term changes of nematode assemblages were studied in field soil sown with regional and commercial grass mixtures and compared with those in a cultivated field in the course of one year. Total average abundance of nematodes in the grass mixture plots increased rapidly to 1308-2075 x 10 3 ind.m.-2 whereas in the field it remained relatively low (625 x 10 3 ind.m-2). The increase in population densities mainly concerned microbivores such as Panagrolaimus, Paraphelenchus, Aphelenchus and Aphelenchoides (950-1779 x 10 3 ind. m-2) followed by omnivores + predators (178-296 x 10 3 ind.m-2), while increase in plant parasite populations was slower (105-140 x 10 3 ind. m-2). The development of nematode assemblages suggests a great role of accumulation of above-ground as well as below-ground litter supporting microflora and microbial feeding fauna in initial stages of meadow restoration. In older stages, an increase of root density is expected simultaneously with multiplication of plant parasitic nematodes. Early successional development of soil nematode assemblages seemed to be faster in plots sown with regional grass mixture than in that sown with commercial grass mixture.

Englisch, Jakub ; Sus, Josef (advisor) ; Zíka, Lukáš (referee)
The main aim today is to improve the cultivation of fruits and intensification of production for satisfactory market supply quality products. This can be achieved by selecting an appropriate combination of base-variety and cultivation using perspective shape (spindle). The newly founded modern planting in the growing spindle-shaped when in use slow- growing rootstock up to several hundred more trees per hectare of orchards and fertility beginning to enter the third year, which is significantly earlier than in past years. In earlier planting was used, lusher rootstocks, but also used other forms of cultivation. Weakly vigorous rootstocks were represented in my attempt rootstock P-HL-A and Gisela 5. The theoretical part focuses on the general demands of growing cherries, cherry growing importance and its botanical description, pests and diseases cherry rootstock influence on the variety and rootstock description. The experimental part of the work specializes in the characterization of habitat and experimental material, describes methods of assessment and method of the experiment itself, the experiment results and the conclusions drawn. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of different rootstocks on growth and fertility, selected varieties of cherries grown in the shape of the spindle in the third and sixth year after planting. In the course of short-term plantings of cherries grown in the shape of the spindle it showed that rootstock P-HL-A variety 'Burlat' had a 19% increase compared with lusher 'Karešova' variety was planted on the same rootstock. Although the variety 'Karešova' had a smaller volume of crowns and reached compared to the variety 'Burlat' higher overall revenue (10.4%) and higher specific revenues, but the variety 'Burlat' reached about 10% higher compared to the average weight of the fruit variety 'Karešova'. Variety 'Sweet Early Panaro 1' on Gisela 5 rootstock had a 21% growth compared to the wilder variety 'Rita' (Gisela 5), higher total return (16.7%) was recorded in the variety 'Sweet Early Panaro 1', but specific (specific) revenues were a variety 'Rita' almost the same. Among the varieties 'Rita' and 'Sweet Early 1' Panaro was a big difference in the mean fetal weight. Variety 'Sweet Early Panaro 1' had a 40% higher compared to the average weight of the fruit variety 'Rita'.
