Coffee shop as the topic of Czech art of the first half of 20th century

Evolutionary psychology of art
Lačev, Alek ; Štětovská, Iva (referee) ; Šípek, Jiří (advisor)
In this thesis I concern with a phenomenon of art within field of evolutio-nary psychology. This phenomenon apparently exceeds the functional and as such it "cries out for an explanation". I explain that evolutionary theories of art consider art in the light of scientific attempt to understand human nature. And in accord with those I ask, why art exists at all or why it is so prevalent in hu-man behavior. There are many evolutionary accounts of art. Yet, I will focus on four of the foremost evolutionary theories of and their proponents: (1) art as not an adaptation, but a byproduct of the evolution of human brain by natural selec-tion (Steven Pinker); (2) art as a product not of natural selection but of sexual selection (Geoffrey Miller); (3) art as an adaptation of social cohesion (Ellen Dis-sanayake) or (4) art as an adaptation of individual mental organization (John Tooby and Leda Cosmides). In the research part of the thesis I further examine one of the above men-tioned theories. Two hypothesis based on Millers theory are outlined and tested empirically in a form of personal ads. Results show, that neither more nor younger women answer to those ads which contain expression of artistic talent though. Thus they do not support Millers theory. Discussion summariz-es possible reasons for such outcome as well...

Drama education in catechesis
Pintířová, Ivana ; Valenta, Josef (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jiří (referee)
This theoretical work is searching for an answer for the question: What can drama education offer to current Czech [catholic] catechesis? The introductory chapters deal with meaning and signification of catechesis, its goals, forms, methods and requirements of today's world. The following parts characterized, its principles, goals and types. The next chapter describes relations between theology and theatre as ?parent? branches of catechesis and drama education. The next part compares catechesis and drama education, their general characteristics [principles], goals and methods. This comparison reveals the common colouring and focus of both fields ? focus on complex harmonius development of individuals, - on relationships [with God], with oneself, with people, with the world around, - on life situations, especially crisis, - on overlaps [truth, beauty, symbol ?]. The author sets four basic areas which can make drama education effective in catechesis. They are: aesthetic element ? education via art, expressing oneself through the medium of symbols, games and work with a story. The next part of the work elaborates the four areas and shows their significance for catechesis. In the closing part the four aeras and their educatinal potencial are assigned to partial goals of catechesis in relation to God, to oneself and to world around. These analysis are completed with an attached tabbed diagram, which was created as a working stock during writing of the theses. At the end some questions of possible future research are stated.

The Renaissance Chapel of St. John the Baptist in the Archbishop's Palace in Prague
Opatrná, Marie ; Zlatohlávek, Martin (advisor) ; Kropáček, Jiří (referee)
Resume The renaissance chapel S. John Baptist in Archbishop Palace in Prague Marie Opatrná Supervisor of assignment: PhDr. Martin Zlatohlávek PhD. The chapel in Archbishop Palace was built in honor of the Almighty God, the Virgin Mary, St. John the Baptist, St. John of Nepomuk and All Saints. This chapel is important and significant part of Rudolf's art. The chapel was founded by Zbyněk Berka z Dubé in 1599. There are not any signs of the previous existence of a chapel in the palace. All paintings on the roof were made by Daniel Alexius z Květné. In the chapel we can see these paintings: the Visitation, the Preaching of St. John the Baptist, the Baptism of Jesus and Dancing of Salome. Daniel Alexius z Květné was inspired by graphics of Cornelius Galle and Pietr Jansz Saenredam. The scene of the Miraculous rescue of the prince Jaromír was inspired by painting of a German anonym. This painting owns the National Gallery in Prague now. The pattern for the scene of The Holy Trinity is not known. The chapel is decorated with stucco decor. Its dating was questionable for a long time. I tend to the opinion that it was made in 1599 when the chapel was founded. In the nave, there are the gallery of clerical dignitaries, angels with Arma Christi and memorial tablet which reminds the renovation in 1676 and 1888. The...
