Nippon re-discovered. The image of Japan in central European modernism 1920-1940
Čapková, Helena ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor)
Japanese influence on Europe was particularly strong in the period of japonism, which is widely pinned down and limited to the second half of 19th century. However, this Japanese vogue transformed into a sophisticated knowledge and admiration for Japanese art, philosophy and everyday life by the interwar period. This transformation happened within a framework of international modernity and is a subject of this text. What is the Japanese element in modernism that alludes its latent japaneseness? I argue that it is a symptom of Japanese aesthetics that deeply rooted into common consciousness by the time between the wars. The geographic focus of this paper is on Central Europe and Japan. Japanese art scene has been an active participant of international art debates since the beginning of 20th century. This dynamic situation in Japan played a crucial role in seeking the history and unique face of modernism. Many prominent artists took part in this process including the ones for Central Europe. Therefore, few case studies will be included, such as on Johannes Itten, Bedřich Feuerstein and Bruno Taut.

Hlístice (Nematoda) v jílech hald uhelných dolů a v pokusně introdukovaných pásech luční půdy
Háněl, Ladislav
Soil nematodes were studied in coal-mining clay spoil denuded by a landslide of the upper part of a colliery dump three years ago. This control plot was compared with nematodes in introduced strips of fresh meadow soil heaped up on the spoil and in spoil strips between these soil strips. .i.Ecumenicus monohystera./i. (25% of all nematode individuals) and .i.Aporcelaimellus obtusicaudatus./i. (23%) dominated in the control spoil whereas in spoil between soil strips their population densities decreased. The greatest number of nematode species and genera was present in the soil strips. The number of species and genera increased in spoil strips adjacent to soil strips and proportions between trophic groups partially changed. Introduction of fresh meadow soil into colliery spoils may influence nematode assemblages in post-mining clays. Nevertheless, clay patches can harbour peculiar nematode assemblages that can contribute to the overall diversity of a post-mining landscape.

Latin medieval hagiographie, its structure and influence in Bohemian lands
Izdný, Jakub ; Suchánek, Drahomír (referee) ; Drška, Václav (advisor)
I try to compare latine legends of first European christian monarchs of the early Middle Ages in my work. This way I detected some standard type of hagiographical story with this topic. The conformity lies in the way of acceptation of baptism, appearance of two secondary persons - the wife, who is accepting the sanctity, and the missionary bishop - and not least in using the theme of battle for faith. Especially the character of pious wife seems to be very important in hagiography and implies obviously the realy way of spreading christian religion with the marriage policy. As well important are findings, that despite the quite wide time span between the genesis of the oldest and the latest compared text, amplified by the different historical situation of Germanic and Central European peoples, shows the hagiography considerable similarity and proves the cultural alliance of West and Central Europe.
