Marketing Communication at the Universities of the Third Age

The focus of this work is on the analysis of marketing communication at the Universities of the Third Age. The subject of this study is to compare promotion at the chosen Czech Universities, which participate in the Association of Universities of the Third Age. The work contains a theoretical interpretation of basic terms of the marketing mix, marketing communication, and the Universities of the Third Age. The thesis also conatins an assessment of the result of the analysis, which is based on a questionnaire intended for representatives of the Universities. From the results of the analysis, it is possible to determine measures to improve performance.
"You can't command a change of thinking": system of informal education for the elderly from the public policy perspective

This diploma thesis deals with the topic of non-formal education for senior citizens in Czech Republic from the perspective of public policy. The main goal of this thesis is to capture the current state, main challenges and key topics in the field of non-formal education for senior citizens in Czech Republic. The system of non-formal education for senior citizens represents a complex structure of institutions, which offer educational programmes and activities. Both the system and the senior population are immensely diverse, which, on one hand, offers a high degree of flexibility and autonomy to both, the participants and the institutions. But on the other hand, it presents a challenge for public policy to capture the complexity of the phenomenon, whilst maintaining inclusivity. The non-formal education for senior citizens isn't defined by the legislative and the field therefore falls under three different departments: Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports; Ministry of Labour and Social Affair and Ministry of Culture. U3V as an opportunity to fulfill a concept of active aging. A qualitative study of U3V students at Charles University

The thesis deals with the topic of Third Age Universities in the context of the active aging concept. In the theoretical part the topic is set in the problem of an aging population and social aspects of retirement. In short, U3V history in the world and in the Czech Republic is introduced. The concept of active aging is defined differently, so for the purposes of research chosen definition consisting of three fundamental aspects - the active lifestyle, inclusion and material security. Qualitative research through interviews with U3V students at Charles University in Prague explores how these aspects are implemented from the perspective of the students. Active lifestyle for seniors is supported by the expansion of knowledge, supporting programs and physical activity. In school, students make new friendships, which often go outside courses. In both of these aspects for seniors is particularly important 'quality' of the options, i.e. the level of provided knowledge and intelligence and interests of new friends. Seniors, who study together with younger students, and those who attend separate courses, consider intergenerational encounters beneficial and enriching for both groups. Hardiness of Senior Citizens participating in Universities of the Third Age

The population is getting older. Prognosis predict increasing numbers of people in the age group 65+ in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to think about involving senior citizens in social development and supporting their self-sufficiency up to a higher age. Education is one of the ways to achieve that. The focus of this thesis is on education within the Universities of the Third Age, which it studies from a new point of view. Hardiness is seen as part of personal characteristics which helps the individual cope with stressful situations. Research in this thesis is trying to find out if the senior citizens attending the Universities of the Third Age have a higher scores on hardiness then those who do not attend, and also whether they have a more positive outlook on their health and meaning of their lives. The thesis also studies whether the scores on hardiness depends on gender, formal education level and whether it is connected to perceived social support. The results show that there is no difference in the scores on hardiness resulting from gender. Senior citizens attending the Universities of the Third Age have a more positive outlook on their health and they also perceive their lives as more meaningful. Education of older adults in the area in of new media

In the paper characterized were chosen, most important determinants of educating seniors in the matter of new media. Learning and teaching of seniors were depicted through "non-formal system" created by Universities of Third Age (U3A). Actions of teacher and adult students connected with the effective learning about possibilities connected with new media discussed were in following dimensions: social changes, transformations of education of people in late adulthood, individual features of seniors and institutional and theoretical solutions in the matter of andragogy and educational gerontology. The book also contains a chapter in which described were transformations of society by new media and causes and results of digital exclusion among seniors. The crucial part of the paper is a practical answer to the question, how to educate seniors in "non-formal education system" in the matter of electronic media? To achieve this, presented was a complex methodical proposition derived from andragogical and geragogical theories with a reference to didactic practice of the author in computer sections of universities of third age. A stand of the students of the Third Age University at Charles University on their oldness

The thesis is focused on the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age to their own old age. The definition of the theoretical context in the first part focuses on the issues of aging and old age in connection with identifying the quality of life of seniors. This section is also focused on the topic Universities of the Third Age, their historical context in the current form. In the research part the results of the survey have been presented. To achieve the research objective, a quantitative research strategy, a method of questioning, was used. Specifically, a standardized questionnaire of attitudes to age and aging (AAQ) was used, which was developed by the World Health Organization. The main aim of this thesis was to determine the attitudes of students of the University of the Third Age at the Charles University to their own old age and then to compare these attitudes with a group of inactive seniors. Another subject of the research was also the influence of the social-demographic indicators on the attitudes of seniors to age and motivation of the undergraduates to study at the University of the Third Age. The motivation of seniors from Klatovy area for education

This bachelor thesis focuses on education of seniors specifically from the area of Klatovy district. It focuses on the motivation of seniors and educational opportunities in Klatovy district. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes motivation itself, motivation for education and communication. The second chapter focuses on seniors, third age and aging itself. It defines the age limit and describes changes that are related to third age. The third chapter explains methods and forms of education for seniors. The empirical part is devoted to research of educational opportunities for seniors in Klatovy region, motivation of their participants to education and evaluation of provided activities. Special attention is paid to the Virtual University of the Third Age, the way of education, motivation and evaluation of the program by the participants and their tutors in counseling center in Klatovy district. The results of the program evaluation of participants and tutors are compared, interpreted and presented in the conclusion part of the thesis.

1 Third-age education: Its desirability, quality, and development Bc. Soňa Kalousková, DiS. The object of this diploma thesis is to examine the state of affairs in the third-age education in the Czech Republic, with regard to University of the Third Age (U3A), focusing especially to Charles University and Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University. On the basis of the results to reach conclusions concerning the question how the management of education can contribute to the development of U3A. The topic was chosen because of the researcher's interest in this issue. In the theoretical part, the necessary knowledge about lifelong learning and third-age education is presented, and the topic of ageing society is explained. The following practical part consists of sociological research with quantitative research, with usage of electronic and printed questionnaires and a regulated interview, which aims to map the state of affairs in U3A, its quality and possibilities of its further development.
