Coping with demanding study responsibilities for conservatory students
Kellerová, Anna ; Kucharská, Anna (advisor) ; Kučerová, Olga (referee)
This master's thesis deals with the demanding responsibilities of studying at a conservatoire and coping with them. The aim of the thesis is to research how students experience their studies, the stress and also how they cope with the stress itself. Conservatoire students are a very specific group of pupils. From an early age they publicly perform, they are being judged, compared and they develop a very unique individual relationship with their teachers. All these circumstances can lead to difficult situations in their life. The theoretical part of the thesis is therefore divided into 4 main chapters. In the first chapter there is a brief description of studying at a conservatoire with a focus on its technicalities. The second chapter examines stress amongst musicians, what causes it, how it emerges, and I also mention stress among young musicians and how it differs from stress experienced by professional musicians in this chapter. The next part brings the reader closer to specific challenging situations in the lives of conservatoire students and the last chapter describes coping strategies that can be used in the lives of musicians. The practical part of the thesis is carried out in the form of semi-structured interviews with conservatoire students from several schools in the Czech Republic. The...
The paternal help during the home preparation for school of children in the early school age
MONTAGOVÁ, Kristina Simona
This bachelor thesis investigates and describes the spectrum of the parental ways which parents use to help their children (in the early school age) during the home preparation for school or during the home-based distance education. The investigation has been carried out on the basis of five interviews with the mothers of the younger scholars (2nd - 4th grade). The interviews have been transcribed, coded, analysed and evaluated using the qualitative research methods. I focused mainly on these research questions: How do parents experience their role and relation to their children during the home preparation for school, how did the parents experience the new covid-19 pandemic situation and home-based distance education and how do parents get involved in the home preparation and home-based education of their children? The results of the research concern mainly the fact whether the respondents experience their role rather as supporting the autonomy of the child or rather as monitoring and controlling one, and the connected consequences. Further more they concern the coping strategies the mothers used in order to cope with the difficult situation of the home-based distance education of their children during the covid-19 pandemic and the ways of a direct or an indirect parents' involvement in the home preparation and distance education.

Within the research two in-depth interviews with two investigative journalists were made. Each of the respondents is dedicated to different type of investigative journalism and focuses primarily on different geographical area. Within the characteristics of IPA I concentrated on their subjective experience while the working process. Both of the respondents were asked to talk freely about what they considered important relating to my questions. In the analytical part I tried to intepret the answers regarding possible personality sources. Based on the findings I formed a proposal of the categories of these sources which within the living experience of the respondents seemed crucial for...

Otoo, Adelaide Ekua Mrenfoa
This study examines the household socio-economic characteristics and food security status of of small scale farmers in the Nanumba North District of Ghana. 150 households were sampled for this study from five communities in the Nanumba North district of Ghana. The multi-stage sampling technique was employed to select the households. The data obtained was analysed using the Household Food Security Survey Module (HFSSM), the Binary Logit Regression Model and the Garret ranking technique. The study identified that 58% of the small scale farm households were food secure while 42% were food insecure. Estimates from the binary logit model showed that having access to credit increases a farm households probability of being food secure. It further identified unfavourable climate to be the most important food security constraint for farm households. Purchasing cheaper food was also identified as the most relevant food security coping strategy used or likely to be used by farm households. The outcome of the study has policy implications for food security programmes focused on rural agricultural households.

Disease is neutral - Life with "depression"
Vojtková, Lucie ; Šmídová, Olga (advisor) ; Praško Pavlov, Ján (referee)
This thesis is inspired by the theory of social construction of mental illness. The work is a case study that uses the metaphor of the story and narrative analysis of interviews examining the individual human experience with mental illness. My goal was to find out what makes us understand the disease and how this understanding can be used in a daily struggle with the disease. In the theoretical part, I drew from documented knowledge about mental illness, particularly for depressive disorder and schizophrenia simplex. Then I presented the narrative approach as a legitimate way of exploring understanding of lived experience. The practical part is implemented as a case study and through narrative analysis provides interesting insight into the way of understanding and coping with mental illness a person who has the expertise and also suffer from mental illness. Key words: mental illness, social construction, narrative, narrative approach, the dominant medical discourse, depression, schizophrenia simplex, stigma, coping strategies.
