Creation of protagonists in selected novels by Rómulo Gallegos

Title of the Thesis: Creation of protagonists in selected novels by Rómulo Gallegos Abstract: The goal of the thesis is a detailed analysis of the main characters of the novels Doňa Barbara and La Trepadora written by Rómulo Gallegos, one of the frontmen of "regionalism". Based on several expert essays, an original theoretical scheme of character analysis is formulated. It follows character indicators in the text, relationship to other compounds of the novels, typology determination, and reader's construct of the character in the story including the role of perception. The thesis also studies an analysis of acting forces and seeks common features of both novels, the prime one being the conflict of dual value systems. Regionalism in the Architecture and the aplication in the pedagogy in Kindergarten.

The thesis analyzes regionalism in architecture and its application in kindergarten education. In the theoretical part it defines regionalism, its characteristics, history and contemporary conception on the Czech territory. Urbanism, urban context, meaning of genius loci for the region are explained. Suitable educational methods and art techniques for preschool children. The principles of the project are defined. The aim of this work is to elaborate an art project usable for children in preschool age. It will bring children closer to culture, its importance from an artistic point of view. It develops the visual literacy of children and introduces them to the field of regionalism, urbanism in the context of the given place. Through art goals, specific art tasks and art techniques, children penetrate the foundations of urbanism and regionalism. By explaining the principle of gallery education and the perception of the environment in the exhibition space, they will learn to perceive the works of art with the view of the author, will experience a sense of success. In the practical part is realized project, which is connected to concrete environment. Three Different Mexicos: application of the SWOT analysis on three Mexican regions

With the decreasing importance of national borders and rise of regions as main actors in economic activity, regional disparities are one of the pressing issues faced by many governments. The objective of this thesis is to look at the case study of trends of Mexican regional disparities. The paper draws from the New Economic Geography, which stresses importance of human and physical capital for economic growth, and Porter's theory of clusters which finds the importance of export for regional development. The paper divides Mexico into three regions: the North; the Centre and the South and uses the SWOT analysis for evaluation of each region. The thesis finds that the North is the region with highest economic performance which is the result of its export-based manufacturing industry. It benefits from its closeness to the US, but it lacks technological research connected to its products, as that takes place in the US. The Centre has been also experiencing growth. Most of its economic activity is located around Mexico City but various clusters have been created in other areas as well. Lastly, the South is the poorest and most diverse region. Socio-economic motivated migration; Impacts of "voting with your feet" in the U.S.

This paper explores the implications of tax policy on the migration habits of the wealthiest of tax paying groups in certain U.S. states, and quantifies those implications for readers so they have a better understanding of how human behavior and tax systems interact. This is done so by examining the general phenomena of tax related migration as it manifests itself in specific real- world examples. As such, this paper projects the number of high-income taxpayers lost based on increases to the rates of personal income tax, and the associated tax dollar gains/losses (i.e. to what extent are top-tax bracket filers "voting with their feet"?). The paper provides calculations for three different rates of population sensitivity, and the corresponding numbers of lost tax payers in relation to a tax increase. The paper then goes on to show the diminishing returns of tax rate increases on top-tax bracket payers by calculating the amount of time needed for migration to completely offset the original gains from the high rate of taxation. Transatlantic relations between the US and the EU (2012-2018)

Topics associated with the United States' foreign policy towards the European Union have become increasingly intense in expert discussions since the turn of the millennium. This is due to several factors, primarily including the strength of the two clusters, on two shores of the Atlantic ocean. The work on the topic of transatlantic relations is divided into four chapters, where the first chapter deals with the theory of regionalism, the historical development of relations between the United States and the European Union, and the European Community. The conclusion of the chapter then anchors foreign policy actors from the US perspective. However, the thesis aim is to compare two US presidents and their relations with the EU. The selected presidents are Barack Obama and Donald Trump, when the 2012-2018 period is a crucial time for work. The aim of the thesis is to find answers to several questions, when the main one is whether and what difference is in the approach of Barack Obama and Donald Trump towards the EU. The paper sets out several criteria by its research, which will then be compared from the perspective of two presidents in order to show whether and how the policies of two consecutive presidents differ in EU relations.

Canadian Literary Regionalism: Rural Ontario and Manitoba Pariries In the Works of Alice Munro and Margaret Laurence

The BA thesis deals with the use of region in the works of two renowned Canadian authors of the 20th century, Margaret Laurence and Alice Munro. For my analysis I have chosen Laurence's novel The Diviners (1974), the final work in her Manawaka sequence, and Alice Munro's first published collection of short stories, Dance of the Happy Shades (1968). Laurence sets her Canadian novels primarily in Manawaka, a small prairie town based her own hometown. Munro, who is largely associated with Southern Ontario Gothic, takes us to several towns in southwestern Ontario. Since both authors have successfully been published outside of Canada I also discuss whether their works are distinctly Canadian in any way. Contemporary Canadian studies recognize regionalism as one of the defining features of the country. In the introduction, I touch on the lack of uniform identity, experience and interests in a country as ethnically and geographically diverse as Canada. Although the first thing that comes to mind in relation to Canadian regions, is the division of the country into provinces and territories, it is not the only way to approach regionalism - the country could be divided into different regions if we were to focus on language or climate. Langue d'oc in the scientists' discourse before and after the French Revolution

The master thesis The Langue d'oc in the Scholarly Discourse Before and After The Great French Revolution considers the image of the Occitan language in the lexico-graphical and grammatico-graphical works that have been written between the beginning of the 18th and the mid-19th century. During this epoch, in the framework of a diglossic model, the language in question had been suffering a status of a dominated language. At the same time, however, it had awaken an interest of many scholars whose motivations for their studies ranged from a will to contribute to a proliferation of Francization to an effort to save the Occitan language and restore its own dignity. It is precisely this motivation, as well as the denominations which our authors had given to the language in question and also their strategies for its valorization or devalorization, that this text engages with. The socio-linguistic situation in the Pays d'Oc and the impact of The French Revolution and of its linguistic politics on the presence and the representation of the Occitan are also being examined. Labour Party in Scotland and Wales - comparative analysis

The thesis presents a comparative analysis of the Scottish and Welsh Labour Party's position. The work is focuses on the change of regional party's branches after devolution, which the Labour Party introduced in 1999. At the decentralized level was created a new devolved institution, a new party system and a new electoral system, which has brought the possibility of coalition government. These changes were meant a big challenge for the party. The party must adapt to new conditions and change access to regional affiliates. The changes are analyzed according to the theoretical framework created by J. Hopkin and supplemented by the theory of Laffin, Shaw and Taylor. Areas of party activities are being explored, such as election of candidates, electoral and governmental strategies, election leaders, organization and party financing, and party status in a party system based on elections to the Westminster and Regional Parliament or National Assembly. The thesis briefly describes history of the Labour Party and its organization, which is necessary for analysis after devolutional position of the party. There is briefly described the devolution itself in the British environment and the emergence and system of newly established legislative institutions, including the electoral system.

Rhodope Mountains in work of Bulgarian author Nikolaj Chajtov

(in English) This thesis examines the literary representation of the Bulgarian Rhodope region in the texts of local author Nikolaj Chajtov (1919 - 2002). His prosaic manifestation of regionalism is detailed, as is the artistic portayal of every day life in his writings. Chajtov's work illustrates how the region's inhabitants live in harmony with nature and rural traditions. This paper therefore also analyzes Nikolaj Chajtov's personal relationship with nature and folklore, looking at it in the context of the mystical connections that people may form with land and mountainous topography. Finally, the reception of Chajtov's work in the Czech Republic is detailed.

Tradition and Country in the Czech interwar literature

The submitted thesis focuses on traditionalist conceptions in the Czech interwar literature. In the First Chapter were considered some literary theories, mainly distinctions between continuity and discontinuity in literary history (modernism and anti-modernism). Author consider tradition in the dialogue with the hermeneutic theories (mainly Hans-Georg Gadamer, Paul Ricoeur and New Historicism) regarding tradition as a problem of historical meaning opposite sociological conception of tradition. Tradition suggests interdependence of anti-modern and modern art. The Second Chapter focuses on the polemic about tradition around 1928. Polemics about tradition related with discussions about philosophical sense of the Czech history, revision state and national traditions and also with the traditional character of literature. Further chapter consider tradition in the context of rural literature (ruralismus) and rural novel published in rural library Hlasy země (conception and varieties of time in novels - progress, ancestral continuity, eternity). In this contemporary negotiations over rural themes had an important role regional literature (regionalismus) as a specific variant of the rural novels.
