Tato diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou veřejné diplomacie a případě pomocí případové studie j práci vystižena veřejné diplomacie a specificky pak její amerických. Veřejná diplomacie je tedy v rámci práce pojímána coby zahraničně nástroj, který Unie využívá posilování transatlantického partnerství a dosažení vlastních zahraničně politických cílů v rámci tohoto partnerství a zda je pouze podpůrným prostředkem pro aktuální politické a ekonomické iniciativy, nebo jestli jsou jeho prostřednictvím spíše dosahovány teoretické části jsou představeny základní koncepty, které jsou následovně využity v části empirické. Konečným závěrem, kterého bylo prostřednictvím práce dosaženo je ten, že veřejná diplom budování vztahů mezi EU a Spojenými státy, což do značné míry vyplývá ze samotného charakteru politického prostředí v
Environmental topics in nation branding: the case of Slovenia

This thesis focuses on the approach of Slovenia to the promotion of the state abroad. It is a small country with two million inhabitants, suffering from poor visibility and being confused with Slovakia. Slovenia has decided to change this by creating a national brand. Positive perception of a country contributes to economic development of the state. It is also an ideal means by which small states can maximise their influence in the international arena. The thesis describes the gradual development of the national brand and its implementation. The thesis also describes the institutional background, the work being coordinated by the Government Office for Communication. Slovenia has succeeded in creating the brand of a green country with a quality of life for all. For a national brand to be successful, it must be based on real national priorities. In the case of Slovenia, ecology is also part of its domestic and foreign policy priorities. The monitored indicators show that Slovenia's environmental performance varies in different areas. In some areas Slovenia is a leader in the EU, in others, for example in transport, its performance is below average. The work concludes that the label is based on real foundations because some part of environmental policy is effective.
Guantánamo: Between Security and Human Rights Guantánamo Bay Prison in US Public Discourse During George W. Bush Administration

The thesis examines the discussion about American prison for suspected terrorists at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. The author argues that the position taken by Bush Administration in its dealings with detainees in the early years was step by step denied by a series of the Supreme Court's rulings. Thus the Administration had to find partial resolutions and ways around that led to a demand to close Guantánamo prison. The author concludes that the main reason for Guantánamo prison to remain open was a question of unresolved future fate of detainees.
Instruments of foreign policy of small states - Taiwan's economic and public diplomacy

Taiwan is still in partial diplomatic isolation. As a small country with a limited share in world affairs is not only limited by his specific requirements, but also to the instruments that are entitled to use. The only way to escape from this situation means expanding the number of diplomatic allies and efforts for integration into international structures. Recommended tools for small state foreign policy used to achieve its objectives, primarily by soft power. Based on the classification of Taiwan as a small state, the recommended instruments are of public and economic diplomacy. They act through creating a positive image of the country abroad and various forms of foreign assistance. Taiwan needs to gather as much support from the general public in different countries. A strong motivation for him is his effort to build its own space and fixed position for national survival and growth in China's shadow. By defining each of the central concepts, integrating Taiwan into the actual facts and the application of selected instruments for Taiwan's foreign policy terms there is built a connection between the small states issue and areas of economic and public diplomacy as soft power tools of Taiwan's foreign policy.

Precisely, the thesis studies the influence of the educational exchange programs (Erasmus+ and UGRAD) on the Armenian exchange students in the scope of soft power. After establishing the influence of the exchange programs on the formation of the perceptions about the host countries, the thesis further focuses on the sustainability of the perception taking into consideration the Nagorno-Karabakh Second war which is a 'critical juncture' as it was a dramatic event in the life of the Armenian youth and could have influenced their views of the EU and the US. It is important to note that the academic literature on the exchange students' perceptions does not provide any studies through the lenses of the political events in the participants' home country. Who is 'the public'? The case of the EU's Public Diplomacy in the Eastern Partnership Master's Thesis - Kristin Aldag - Charles University, June 2021 Abstract For states and other international actors such as the European Union, public diplomacy is an important tool to achieve their political and economic interests abroad by communi- cating directly with foreign audiences. While the existing body of academic literature on pub- lic diplomacy is rich, few authors have thus far addressed the question of who actually consti- tutes the public, and which specific target groups can be distinguished. Using the EU PD prac- tices in the Eastern Partnership (EaP) from 2010-2020 as a case study, this thesis will thus attempt to fill this gap and contribute to the academic literature in the field by offering an overview of the various target groups within the European Union's public diplomacy. In a thorough content analysis of relevant primary sources, the thesis focuses on the policy objec- tives and practices of the European Union's outreach to different groups and audiences in the EaP region. Warfare and Institutional Communication on Social Media in 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict

The thesis concerns with communication of Armenian and Azerbaijani Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Ministries of Defence on Facebook in relation to 2020 Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The official institutional accounts were used to bolster one sided narratives of the conflict, often by emotional appeals and misinformation targeting international and domestic audence. By analyzing FB communication of the named institutions, it aims to identify the key narrative-building tools utilized by state institutions in communication practice and how these tools are used prior to and during wartime. It also aims at comparing the communication practice across the institutions and in between the countries by analyzing Facebook posts of named ministries over period of 100 days using a dataset generated via Crowdtangle.
Nation branding and public diplomacy in Estonia

The aim of this thesis is to discuss the concepts of public diplomacy and nation branding, find the link between them, and examine their effect on the economic development in Estonia. This thesis provides a thorough overview of relevant liter- ature on NB and PD. To dive into the practical part of nation branding it discusses the case of globally accepted, effective NB initiatives of Singapore. Moreover, it discusses Estonian's NB campaigns and four main instruments of PD and con- ducts economic analysis to examine the effects of NB and PD in Estonian economy from building credibility and international awareness points of view. To make the economic analysis more valuable and visually comprehensible, all discussed mi- croeconomic and macroeconomic indicators are captured for all three Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania). Both qualitative and quantitative methodolo- gies are used to answer the research question and hypotheses. Public diplomacy of Great Britain, Germany, and France in the Czech Republic taking into account the question of the European Union

This diploma thesis deals with public diplomacy of France, Great Britain, and Germany in the Czech Republic. Based on the theoretical parts, two models of public diplomacy are formulated. The main criteria for the division of the models are the goals of public diplomacy. The first one is a model of promoting a positive image of a state abroad that is used for improving the image of the state in front of the foreign public. In the case of the second model, states can use the interests of public diplomacy to actively promote the values and views of the state that uses public diplomacy. After the presentation of public diplomacy organisations of the selected states and the historical development of their activities in the Czech Republic, an analysis was performed based on data collected from social networks, websites, and interviews with several representatives of public diplomacy. The practices of British, French, and German public diplomacy were categorized based on the goals mentioned within the official documents, the goals of individual public diplomacy institutions, partners, topics, and the tools they use to work the topics. Based on the analysis, none of the public diplomacy of the selected countries operating in the Czech Republic can be assigned a model of promoting values.
