On some aspects of "German with ease" from the point of view of language acquisition
Kořánová, Nora ; Blahak, Boris (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with a specific sequence in the acquisition of German verb placement. The actual subject of research is the language textbook for self-learners "German with Ease" produced by the company Assimil. The textbook supposedly offers a method based on similar principles, which apply in L1 acquisition. The goal of the thesis is to asses to what extent the acquisition sequence has been respected in the textbook. The thesis thus provides a critical analysis of the textbook on a psycholinguistic background. The theoretical part consists of a description of the textbook and compares the Assimil method with other existing methods. It also reviews the psycholinguistic research in the field of acquisition sequences. The practical part of the thesis describes data types and foci, data selection, data presentation and evaluation. Based on the conclusions of the practical part, changes are presented, which may result in the textbook quality enhancement.
Semantic characteristics of verbs in written discourse of children of younger school age
Trojanová, Tereza ; Pacovská, Jasňa (advisor) ; Lehečková, Eva (referee)
The bachelor papers have a goal to examine the area of semantic characteristics of verbs that are used by younger school-age children in their written expressions. The individual written works of the children from the fifth class of elementary school are a base for the research. The quantitative methods of research are used due to the gaining of relevant facts for the analysis of the collected material. Any quantification of the cognitive development cannot be held as generally true. The bachelor papers enrol certain tendencies of the children's speech development, which can become an impulsion for further scientific research. An asset of the papers is also an appendix with the primary younger school-age children's texts. The bachelor papers are divided into a theoretical and an empiric part. The theoretical part describes the basic starting points of psycholinguistics and introduces different attitudes to the language acquisition by a child. Further, it contains a chapter characterizing a period of younger school age and chapters devoting the issue of verbs, their semantics and a classification in light of semantic features. The empiric part shows the work hypothesis, description of the research sample and the methodology of the research. The core of this part is a quantitative expression of a...
To general principles of acquiring foreign language by child
BALOUNOVÁ, Romana
The submitted M.A. thesis builds on the B.A. thesis entitled On general questions of psycholinguistics and develops factual points of departure related to the topic of adoption of a foreign language by a child. A part of the theoretical section is the definition of basic concepts in the field of psycholinguistics, in particular developmental psycholinguistics, and the design of the notion of adoption of a foreign language by a child. The primary goal of the study is to provide a comparative listing of the individual theories of adoption of a foreign language by a child, not only at the level of the mother tongue, but at the level of a second language as well. The basic theoretical concepts of adoption of a foreign language are based on linguistic, psychological and especially psycholinguistic scientific research. The other goals of the thesis include the definition of extensive variable determinants which participate in the process of adoption of a foreign language by a child and also influence the resultant level of adoption of a non-native language. In the concluding part of the theoretical compilation, space is provided for the psycholinguistic aspects of adoption, such as enunciative, speech and written displays of a foreign language. The empirical part is built up in a way so that it highlights the applicability of the process of adoption of a foreign language by a child in a natural environment, i.e. in a bilingual family environment where the resultant process is the most effective and verifiable. For this reason, it is not possible to talk about learning a foreign language but rather about the adoption of a second language.
Hledání spojitosti - použití kvantitativní textové analýzy ke zhodnocení vlivu textu na výsledky grantových programů
Valeš, Miroslav ; Bruckner, Tomáš (advisor) ; Ircing, Pavel (referee)
Since software and hardware is well available for automated text analysis and since a large data that describes real projects submitted to grant program is opened up, there is a possibility to follow phenomena of behavioral economics and psycholinguistics which evidence particularities in textual descriptions may be statistically associated with a reader's behavior or with a reader's decision-taking, which, in this case, involves an influence on final allocation of grant funds. The thesis uses forenamed areas as a starting-point and also employs quantitative indicators from the field of forensic linguistics in order to perform a computer-aided quantitative text analysis. The main goal is to evaluate from correlation perspective, if there in real operational programmes were present any associable relationships between the quantitative features of a proposed project's textual description and the amount of grant allocated to a project. The thesis is divided into four chapters, where it introduces basis, describes analyzed data and used methods, comments on made analyses and found relations, and all the performed research is summarized and evaluated in the last chapter.
Selected Aspects of First Language Acquisition in Czech
KANTOŘÍKOVÁ, Lucie
Bachelor thesis deals with psycholinquistics and selected aspects of language acquisition by children. It approaches four basic theoretical tendencies in the trend of psycholinguistics. These are behaviorism theory, generative theory, context psycholinguistics and cognitive psycholinguistics. It summarizes actual knowledge in language acquisition by children and in forming and development of people´s basic communication skills since their birth. At the same time the thesis also mentions the usual development disorders ? aphasia, dyslexia, dysphasia. Separate section is formed by the pilot study of a particular language phenomenon which is acquisition of adjective passive by a group of children three to five years old. The study uses a form of dialogues together with prepared pictures referring to single sentences. The results of the study are rather ambiguous, very individual and they resemble some well-known theoretical sources.
