Trauma and its role in the life of a drug addict

The work deals with the role of trauma in the life of a drug addict with regard to his early childhood and the traumatic events he encountered. The first part of the work is focused on the characteristics of stress, defense mechanisms, post-traumatic stress disorder, then the work presents post-traumatic growth, which is a positive consequence of trauma. The work also deals with the definition of addiction and its origin. The causes and forms of addiction are described. In the last part of the work we deal with the connections between trauma and addiction, specifically how neurobiology and the external environment can be one of the causes of addiction. In this part, the emphasis is on the fact that the event itself is not trauma, but what a person experiences, what takes place within a person and his reaction to a traumatic event, is only trauma. In conclusion, the theory of Gabor Maté is mentioned, who described addiction as a direct consequence of trauma.

Reverence for Life - a child with an unfavorable prognosis.

The bachelor thesis is focused on a very sensitive topic - Reverence for Life - a child with an unfavorable prognosis. In the theoretical part of the bachelor thesis, the individual chapters deal with the characteristics of the holistic concept of human, the relationship of human to life, the issue of the birth of a child with a serious disability and the process of coping with this fact in the family. Last but not least, the very painful loss of a child. The practical part consists of the analysis of data obtained mainly from individual interviews with mothers (parents) of children with an unfavorable prognosis and at the same time from interviews with experts. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to find out the response and experience gained from the birth of a child with a serious disability, respectively with a lethal prognosis, and also to find out the experience from the approach of doctors and other specialists.

Posttraumatic stress and posttraumatic growth in members of fire rescue service

Posttraumatic stress and posttraumatic growth in members of fire rescue service (Abstract) Firefighters often work under circumstances that endanger their lives or physical integrity and witness traumatic experiences of other people while managing effects of devastating emergency situations. As a result of this exposure they can suffer from trauma and stress related disorders. However, traumatic experiences may also offer potential for growth. This thesis is aimed at posttraumatic stress - symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and posttraumatic growth in members of fire rescue service. The main objective is widening of existing posttraumatic research in professional rescuers with findings from multinational sample of firefighters. Sample consisted of firefighters from Czech Republic (N=302) and six other European countries (N=2241). Study was carried out through questionnaire-based data gathering. Symptoms of posttraumatic stress were assessed via self-rating measure Impact of event scale - revised, posttraumatic growth via Posttraumatic growth inventory - short form. Ways to support parents of children with developmental difficulties

This thesis focuses on supporting children with autism spectrum disorder. It covers stress associated with raising a child with autism and methods to deal with it. It also covers internal and extrenal factors which can assist parents deal and cope with having a child with autism. This thesis contends that giving birth to an autistic child can be a trauma, raising the possibility of post-traumatic growth. The second part of the thesis is a research project in the form of action research. The research will focus on creating practices designed to support parent groups, in which elements of art therapy and psychotherapeutic body work will be used. Psychological adaptation demands to oncological diagnosis of cervival cancer: quality of life and posttraumatic growth in the phase of disease remission

The presented thesis deals with psychological demands and specific factors of the adaptation to the oncological diagnosis "cervical cancer." The focus is on quality of life and posstraumatic growth of patients in the phase of disease remission. The theoretical part first introduces specifics of cervical cancer with consideration of patients' experience and then provides the issue of coping with the oncological disease in terms of coping and defense mechanisms. Then it elaborates the psychological adaptation to cancer disease with focus on other aspects linked to society, patients and disease altogether with problems in coping with oncological diagnosis. The theoretical part of the study is concluded with the description of demands and patients' experience in each clinical stage of the disease. The chapter of disease remis;sion is focused on theoretical background of life quality and posttraumatic growth concepts including an overview of tools for quantitative evaluation. The empirical part describes supporting psychological and other aspects, which help women to cope with cervical cancer. An Understanding of Transgenerational Transmission in a Family from a Perspective of Middle-Aged Individuals

This rigorous thesis focusses on transgenerational transmission and the repeated themes of family memory from the perspective of middle-aged individuals. It is based on the master's thesis called Posttraumatic stress and growth in holocaust survivors and their families. Firstly, the theoretical part defines the terms 'stress', 'trauma' and 'posttraumatic growth'. Afterwards, attention is brought to the historical perspective on traumatic events of the 20th century which deeply affected the lives of respondents (the Second World War, the period of communism) and the topic of transgenerational transmission in the family narrative. The empirical component of the thesis is based on quantitative and qualitative research. The first part is dedicated to the mapping of specific aspects of posttraumatic stress and growth in Holocaust survivors and their offspring (N = 150, data collected by CEITEC). In accordance with other studies, the thesis concludes that Holocaust survivors and their offspring have higher levels of posttraumatic stress and growth and that linear dependence exists between these two phenomena. Posttraumatic Growth in Adolescents and Young Adults

The thesis focuses on posttraumatic growth in adolescents and young adults. The subject of the research is finding and tracking reactions and changes that emerge after a specific stimulus - an existentially experienced trauma, where at the core is realizing the threat of life and afterwards thinking about one's own death. The theoretical part deals with psychological and philosophical sources of current concepts of post-traumatic growth. These sources support our assumption that for the specific course of post-traumatic reactions and changes the subject category or objective severity of events is not relevant. It is the respondents own perception of a life threat. We also deal with a particular PTG model by Tedeschi and Calhoun, whose concept of changes after a major life event was chosen as the starting point for our research and whose PTGI questionnaire is used in the quantitative part. In the empirical part we chose mixed research design. First, a quantitative part of the research was carried out, involving 407 respondents aged 17-25. Posttraumatic stress and growth in holocaust survivors and their families

This master's thesis focusses on long-term effects of the Holocaust on the generation of survivors as well as on their offspring. Firstly, the theoretical part defines the terms 'stress' and 'trauma'. This is followed by an outline of possible reactions to severely stressful situations as well as questionnaires that can be used to measure the levels of traumatization. Afterwards, attention is focused on the phenomenon of posttraumatic growth, mainly based on the perspectives of L. G. Calhoun and R. G. Tedeschi who identify five domains of growth. The possibility of facilitating posttraumatic growth is briefly mentioned alongside with one inventory that can be used to measure the extent of positive change following traumatic experiences. Furthermore, the complexity of the Holocaust is discussed and generations of the Holocaust survivors and their offspring are characterised. In conclusion, attention is drawn to the studies that are concerned with the transgenerational transmission of trauma.
