Canadian media: history/genesis and present/contemporaneity
Vránová, Vendula ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Vochocová, Lenka (referee)
The thesis is focused on key canadian media - print, radio and television, in the individulal chapters I'm trying to describe their development as it is during the formative years and influenced, and what role it plays in today's Canada and which one of them has a privileged position in the country. Before that I was trying to deal with the history of Canada to clarify the roots all Canadian journalism and the media occurred. I also give attention to some selected major Canadian media personalities, whether those from the past and the present, who are in some way involved on what is today Canadian journalism, or the form of it's today. My attention did not miss either: the French-Canadian journalism, which about their form and the place on the map of the Canadian media fought for centuries. Its center is the Canadian province of Quebec. In my work, I also discuss how journalism is taught at several Canadian universities, how much of them offers a learning program and how they teach it. Whether the emphasis is more on theory or more practical. I write also about media education, which has been several years in Canada's history. Last but not least, I tried to map the Czech track in the Canadian media and specifically designate some of expatriate media that readers can find in Canada.
(Non) Relevance of education for children of Romany families
Jará, Marie ; Dvořáková, Markéta (advisor) ; Kubišová, Zuzana (referee)
Bakalářská práce sleduje problematiku vzdělávání dětí z romských rodin. Prostřednictvím krátkého pohledu do historie romské národnostní menšiny mapuje vztah těchto dětí ke škole, spolužákům a jako nejdůležitější vztah ke vzdělání. Práce zmiňuje úskalí, na které naráží proces vzdělávání - diskriminace, segregace, romský jazyk a tradiční romská výchova. Také nabízí možnosti řešení, jakými je asistent pedagoga, přípravné ročníky či multukulturní výchova, Na závěr práce jsou zmíněny i nestátní neziskové organizace pracující s touto skupinou dětí.

The diploma thesis Integration of Foreigners in the Czech Republic deals with the social integration of immigrants into Czech society with respect to structural, cultural, interactive and identifying dimensions. These are the crucial factors influencing their stay in the Czech Rebublic. Their findings are collected by qualitative research. During the interview, they provided detailed information about their stay in the Czech Republic and thus revealed issues which they deal with in the host country. Integration of Muslims in Great Britain in the background of the ,failure of multiculturalism'
Čahojová, Olga ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Váška, Jan (referee)
This Bachelor thesis discusses the relationship between the integration of Muslim immigrants in Great Britain and alleged ,failure of multiculturalism', of which British prime minister talks about on the occasion of his speech in 2011. The thesis is a case study and it focuses on the analysis of the integration policy of Great Britain, especially aimed on the case of Muslim immigrants. The term 'failure of multiculturalism' results from the proposition that the failure of the integration of Muslims associated with the British model of integration. This proposition is based on David Cameron's speech on radicalization of islamic extremism, presented at the security conference in Munich in 2011. The aim of this work is to confirm or disprove the proposition by using analysis of three chosen indicators of success of integration - mobility in the labour market, political participation and official application of Sharia law in Great Britain. The analysis shows that the failure of Muslim integration cannot be fully confirmed. One reason is the fact that it is necessary to distinguish three areas affected by integration - on socio-economic, civic-political and cultural level. The other reason is the analysis result itself, that none of the integration level can be described as fully unsuccessful. The...
Immigration and City: Integration Policies in Berlin and Vienna 1971-2011
Dimitrov, Michal ; Pešek, Jiří (advisor) ; Klípa, Ondřej (referee) ; Zimmermann, Volker (referee)
The doctoral thesis compares and interprets the development of local integration policies of (West) Berlin and Vienna in 1971-2011 on the background of the transformation of Germany and Austria from ethnically homogenous to multicultural countries. Both metropolises first balanced between refusing the permanent integration of immigrants ("temporary integration") and selection of foreigners suitable for integration, later searched for a balance between the traditional concept of assimilation and the more modern multicultural approach; in the last decade they favoured the diversity policy, in more or less close connection to the concept of interculturalism. Although both cities represent essentially similar cases, this development was not straightforward and simultaneous, especially in the first phase before the migration crisis at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s. The research study focuses mainly on two questions: why the development of local integration policy in West Berlin started significantly earlier than in Vienna and why both cities started to support diversity policy at the beginning of the new century. The comparative framework derived from the "contrast of contexts" method interprets the development of local integration policies in the context of the national and transnational political...
Migration, language and integration (Comparison of the Netherlands and Flanders in the 1970s and 1980s)
Vokáčová, Martina ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Klusáková, Luďa (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the Dutch and Flemish policies towards immigrants in the 1970s and 1980s and the role attributed to language in them. It examines the arguments and concepts by which both the policies were motivated and legitimated and evaluates critically their usual periodization. It points out the risk of a wrong reading of the Dutch "tweesporenbeleid" of the 1970s as based on multiculturalism instead of expectation of return of the immigrants into their home country. It concentrates on the Minderhedennota of 1981/83 as the main turning point leading to the interpretation of the allochton-issue as socio-economic problem and examines the public debate on the basis of documents of the Dutch parliament. The acquisition of Dutch as second language, it states, always played a crucial role in the policies. Since the 1980s, more attention was paid to evaluation of school curricula in terms of non-discrimination of non-native speakers. In the Flemish case, less systematical approaches were stated. The policies were less centralized and crucially influenced by the fact of bilinguism and the competition between Dutch and French in Belgium. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
