The portrait of mystic poet Mahadevi Varma
Zmeková, Barbora ; Kostič, Svetislav (advisor) ; Marková, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis presents the mystic poetess Mahadevi Varma, whose poetic work is of the Chhayavad period of Hindi poetry. The thesis introduces the reader to the dynamics of modern Hindi poetry. The main focus is on Varma's life and includes an analysis of her poetic work. The paper addresses Varma's use of traditional Indian literary elements in a modern context, which represents characteristic features of Chhayavad in general. A distinguishing factor of this thesis are translations of Mahadevi Varma's poems from Hindi into Czech. The translations are not direct translations but take poetic license to retain the spirit of the poetry in Czech.

Kočová, Veronika ; Hník, Ondřej (advisor) ; Zimová, Lucie (referee)
The possible approach towards the teaching of literature at the 9th grade level of primary education is the central topic of this thesis. The main idea is to base literature teaching on a system of working sheets, which relate to extracts from 4 selected books. These books have a common theme; real-life situations relevant to students of the 9th grade. Such theme has been preselected on the author's perception that students are becoming less in contact with the literary world, thus seeking a path to bring students closer to it. The goal is to show pupils the relevance and practical use of literature, with the use of diverse tasks and assignments and to convince them that reading may be entertaining as well as educating. A specific characteristic of the thesis is the fact that the research has been carried out in a given classroom at one of Prague's primary schools, where the author teaches Czech Language and Literature. Therefore, a key element of the thesis is the discussion of first hand findings and lessons-learned during these lessons. On the basis of the working sheet system trial results in class, this method proves to be efficient. Students reacted positively to the learning system and the text excerpts allowed them to complete literary tasks and also to discuss the described real-life situations...

Félicien Rops in the context his works and time is a dissertation thesis dedicated to the life and work of one of the most important representatives of artistic decadence and symbolism of the 19th century. The dissertation thesis systematically describes and analytically interprets Rops's life and work in historical, social and cultural context. The first part of the dissertation thesis discusses the early phase of Rops's life, mentions his childhood, schooling and the beginnings of artwork from his time in Brussels until his arrival in Paris. Here I focus mainly on Rops's activities in art circles, his attempts at raising the status of Belgian art within the wider European movement and his activity related to founding satirical periodicals. This phase of Rops's life was defined by his political and social caricaturist work, and was heavily influenced by Flemish tradition and French modern art. I cannot omit Rops's landscape-painting and following the tradition of Flemish and Dutch painting. Special attention is paid to Rops's relation to travelling, sports and...

(in English): The main goal of my thesis is to find out the methods that were used by two middle-eastern authors, Rifāʿa aṭ-Ṭahṭāwī and Ahmet Midhat, to present the image of the West to their readers based on analysis of their works. In this thesis I am trying to reach this goal by topic analysis of their source works in the first place. In the second part of this work I included the description of life-fates of these two authors and circumstances under which they realized their journeys to Paris. This part of my thesis is based mainly on secondary literature, but is amended by quotations from source works. The main contribution of this work is based on the fact that this is first work of its kind which compiles works of these two authors. At the same time this work presents the image of the West from two different perspectives that differ a lot from each other and yet provide us with image of the same kind.
