The Relationship between God's Revelation and the Human Experience of Beauty as a Challenge to Religious Education
BLAŽEK IŇOVÁ, Veronika
This dissertation deals with a theological reflection on the relationship between the supernatural sphere of God's revelation and the natural realm of its human finding in the beauty of the created world and in the visual arts. We thus approach the question of the relationship between the sacred and beautiful theoretically from several theological and aesthetic perspectives so that we can subsequently apply these findings to contemporary practice in the field of religious education. The main theoretical background that inspired our work is theological aesthetics, especially the work of one of its main representatives, Hans Urs von Balthasar, who in his trilogy "Herrlichkeit: Eine theologische Ästhetik" presented a unique way of theological thinking about the relationship between beauty and other degrees (good and truth) of recognizing the sacred reality in the profane world. The aim of the qualitative research presented here was then to empirically find out whether one can really experience transcendence through beauty, and if so, how does one perceive this experience? The research was divided into two parts, which correspond to different target groups. In the first part, the research was conducted using the method of interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) and the data obtained by in-depth interviews with five visual artists. The second part of the research examined the modalities of perception of the beautiful and sacred according to high school students, using the method of grounded theory (GTM) and analysis of photographic data. The didactic method presented here, which leads its listeners from the perception of created and artistic beauty through the goodness of interpersonal relationships to the realization of the meaning of life, which can culminate in accepting the ultimate knowledge of the Truth, which is Christ, was called "Astonish-Experience-Transform." This didactic "transcendental" model is an application of empirically obtained data and theoretical conclusions and can be applied in religious education, catechesis, and pastoral care as a dynamic element of human experience that can open the way for the seeking person towards God's Love.

Myth of female beauty
Romantic Impulses in Victorian Literature
Beran, Zdeněk ; Hilský, Martin (advisor) ; Mánek, Bohuslav (referee) ; Peprník, Michal (referee)
The thesis attempts to discuss the character of late Romantic literature and art as it developed in England throughout the Victorian period. It follows the assertion made by G. Hough that it is possible to identify a continuous presence of Romantic ideas and methods in the writings of some major Victorian authors, and reflects the fact that there was actually no consensus or prevailing unequivocal view of Romanticism at that time, as is evidenced in the contradicting statements of such writers as John Ruskin and Walter Pater. The first objective of the thesis is thus to define the characteristic features of English Romanticism as they can be tracked down in the formative period of the 18th century and the time of High Romanticism of the first decades of the following century, and to see what transforming changes these characteristics underwent during the Victorian era. The sources of Romantic sensibility are located in the revolutionary role of the scientific discoveries of the 17th century and a new focus of the philosophical writings of that period, concerning mainly operations of the human mind. This development resulted in new aesthetic conceptions based on the two prevailing approaches, empiricism and Neo-Platonism. These theories conditioned the main concern of Romantic thought, i.e. an...
Factors influencing worldwide zoo collections of lizards, snakes, turtles and crocodiles: effect of conservation status, body size and their attractiveness to humans
Janovcová, Markéta ; Landová, Eva (advisor) ; Komárek, Stanislav (referee)
There is a large number of species existing in the world; each year, however, the number of the endangered ones rapidly increases. Nowadays, captive breeding becomes an option for their survival in refugees. Sufficient population with satisfactory breeding management gives hope for survival to the endangered species (in mid-term) or even possible future reintroduction to their natural habitat. WAZA is currently the world's leading association of worldwide zoos and similar breeding facilities. Because these institutions operate as a network to facilitate the exchange of reared individuals, for conservation purposes, their captive populations may be seen as one large population characterized by its size, i.e., the total number of individuals. Such view is currently recognized by many conservationists as the so-called concept of Noah's Ark. The space on the Ark is limited, therefore it is needed to heed the characteristics of the species aboard to maximize the conservation potential. Many factors influence the presence of species in zoological gardens. Following previous studies we selected some factors that may be important, i.e., body lenght, taxonomy, and IUCN status. Analysis of these factors among the main reptile clades shall reveal the pattern of reptile composition in worldwide zoos. One of the factors...

This thesis intends to assess various inspirations of Czech art of the nineteenth, mainly twentieth century by ancient Greek tradition. Special emphasis is given to following two viewpoints: travelling on the one side and body and physicallity on the other. The first part concerns itself with artists travelling south to discover new impulses for their work, the second one deals with various approaches to body and physicallity inspired by Greek art.
