Attitude of the Catholic Church towards the Vichy regim

Following thesis deals with relationship between the Catholic Church and a regime established in a part of France during the Second World War. The purpose of the thesis is to analyse main origins of attitude of the Catholic Church towards Vichy France. This attitude is generally considered to be positive. The thesis examines this question only on level of episcopacy. Other levels of possible research are knowingly omitted because of a limited extent of this text. The author emphasizes three main problems of relationship between the Catholic Church and the Vichy regime. Firstly, the thesis focuses on the process of convergence of the Church and the state, secondly this congruity is confronted with moments of clash of opinion between these two elements. Finally, the last chapter deals with post-war situation in France which is connected with purification of the catholic hierarchy. Nazi propaganda with the theme of judaism in Národní politika (1939-1941)

The thesis is making a qualitative analysis of the Nazi propaganda in Národní politika during the period 1939-1941. These first three years of World War II were most important in shaping the cooperation between the media and the occupying power. The thesis is focused on anti-Semitic propaganda and its development during those three years in one of the most highly read daily newspaper in the Protectorate. Through the examples of a few chosen articles and adverts, this propaganda is shown concretely. The texts are analysed to reveal their true meaning, as well as the real authors and readers. By real authors, I mean the Nazis and the occupying power, as most of the articles from the following period are missing a signature. Texts are chosen from different times of year and from different sections of the paper, and each chapter includes a short overview of the historical context. There is a summary of propaganda tools, trend changes in protectorate communications, and changes in showing Jews at the end of the thesis.

Hubert Svoboda: Crime and Punishment

This Master's degree thesis deals with the life of the important builder Hubert Svoboda from Brno, who was after the Second World War sentenced to two years in prison. The structure of this thesis is based on two interedependent chapters. In the initial study there is presented the story of Hubert Svoboda, from his birth to his death. The reader will learn what stood behind builder's collaboration. The following chapter describes the historians path to reconstructure the history of the present. There were made subchapters concerning the history of the present, which take part on scholar's interpretation. According to the usage of the oral history method, the next chapters are devoted to the validity of narrator's statements, to compare the validity not only of the witnesses, but of the archival source too. This work is based on my own methodological approach, which I have created during my research and in the same time it's the only one, which reflects the history of the present in the historic work.

Functioning and publishing activity of the public edifying office (including regional analysis)

This diploma thesis is focused on the public edifying office and its impact during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia period. With using archive sources, there has been introduced comprehensive information about structure, functioning and educative activities of this institution. Explained on the situation of the first district, there has been presented the real influence on Czech population and protectorate culture. Publishing activities are closely analysed with the sample of several journals with using the qualitative research method of grouded theory. Result of this qualitative research is a summary of main propagandistic ideas in these texts.

Interactive collaborative enviroments are solved by many companies and research teams. This thesis is focused on design and development of own system for gesture recognition based on Microsoft Kinect controller. The system is focused on collaboration of multiple users. Therefore, proposed solution can distinguish interactions of different users. The result allows to create an interactive area from a common wall using a computer, projector and Kinect controller.

The fate of German-speaking nobility from the Šumava foothills after World War II

This thesis compares afterwar fates of three noblemen from the foothills of the Šumava mountains - prince Joseph Windischgrätz, Otomar von Pelikan and Georg Heintschel von Heinegg. These noblemen share a few characteristics. Except being members of the royalty, their mother tongue was German and they all had similarly huge property in a size of a few hundreds hectares. These estates were situated in the not so fertile area of the Šumava foothills. Since all three men were noblemen, after 1918, they felt as being strangers in their own country. This impression was even stronger on their Šumava manor farm estates which were situated in predominantly Czech areas with German minority. Each of the men reacted differently to his uprootedness - Georg Heintschel was involved in the Austrian Fatherland Front and he later entered NSDAP and was a dedicated Nazi member. After the war, he was for this sentenced to death. Pelikan pinned his hopes on Sudeten German movement and entered SdP and during the so-called second republic also into NSDAP. However, already in the beginning of the war he started to temper his opinions and at the end he used his position in the Nazi hierarchy for helping people. Comparison of Motivation and the Course of Collaboration in Lithuania and Latvia

The bachelor thesis deals with the issue of collaboration in Lithuania and Latvia - specifically the motivation and course of collaboration of part of the population during the Second World War with the Nazi regime. In both Baltic countries, over 90% of the original Jewish population has been exterminated and most of it by the end of 1941. Collaboration has affected the extent and speed of implementing the final solution of the Jewish question in the Baltics. The first part is devoted to the political-historical context with regard to the Holocaust in both countries. This section discusses the circumstances that had a clear impact on the Baltic society, namely pre-war anti-Semitism, Soviet occupation and Nazi occupation. In the next part, the thesis analyzes pogroms, functioning of collaborative units and their structure. The last part focuses on motives that have been significantly reflected in society in Lithuania and Latvia. The thesis concludes that the Baltic countries differed in the level of pre-war anti- Semitism, the adoption of German occupation by political leadership, the size of pogroms and the structure of collaborative units.

Foreign Legions Waffen-SS

This bachelor thesis focuses on the foreign Waffen-SS legions that had been fighting alongside the German army in the Second World War. The Nazis came out with the idea of establishing an international military force, that would consist of citizens of the currently occupied countries. The key thesis is based on the thought that the Nazis managed to create such legions, that consisted of men who decided to fight against the Soviet Union and Bolshevism, led by the idea of being a part of a so called European army. The first chapter focuses on the elementary factors within the establishment of the foreign legions. Though the Nazis knew they had been acting against their own ideology, and Adolf Hitler himself views the legions rather sceptically, Waffen-SS needed more soldiers in favour of becoming a fully competent armed force. The second chapter speaks about the ordinary volunteers, who decided to serve in the legions and about their motivation. This chapter is also facing an issue in terms of distinguishing each sort of the legion members, who served based on various different reasons and ideas.
