Applying methods of Competitive Inteligencie for educational companies

This thesis deals with the design of Competitive Intelligence for specific training company. The main objective of this work is to characterize and help choosing the person responsible for carrying out activities related to the CI in the company, to identify the most appropriate information sources to obtain information about the company and software tools for their monitoring. The theoretical part is drawn on the literature and is dedicated to the description of competitive intelligence and characteristics of different phases of the CI cycle. Other sections are devoted to typologies of information resources and software tools for their monitoring. Following parts are dealing with the characteristics of the category of small and medium-sized enterprises; the investigated company and education organizations fit in this category. The practical part of this thesis deals with the possible proposal of Competitive Intelligence for specific training company. As the first step we realized the analysis of the business environment and its major limitations. In the following part we deal with the CI system design, consisting of a selection of variant realization, along with the characteristics of the responsible person, the definition of information resources and recommending software tools for regular monitoring. The practical benefit of this work is to introduce CI system design, based on monitoring of information sources, obtaining information and their subsequent evaluation in relation to the competitive environment of the company. Another important asset of the work is a sample of implementation of such a system in the company of categories of small and medium-sized enterprises, which respects their limitations.

Author: Eliška Kolomazníková Name of the thesis: Czech Journalists' Perceptions of Public Relations Practitioners as an Information Source Abstract The relationship between journalists and PR practitioners is a complicated one as it is based on a paradox. On the one hand journalists perceive PR practitioners negatively, but on the other hand they use PR industry outlets as a source of information quite regularly. The aim of the thesis was to examine the journalists' opinion about PR practitioners as one of their sources of information and to outline to what extent are the PR practitioners credible for journalists and how often journalists use PR practitioners together with press releases and conferences as a source of information. The first theoretical part of the thesis describes public relation as a complex discipline, including its main tools, types of jobs and the role of PR within other sources of information that journalists use to gather information. Furthermore, the theoretical part outlines several basic differences between print and online media in terms of work with information sources including PR. Information needs of editors in publishing industry

This thesis is focused on the issues of information behaviour of editors from publishing with an emphasis on information needs and the sources of information. The first part deals with the position in the information publishing companies, the trend for electronic publishing and its influence on the book market. The following is an overview of selected terminological terms from publishers and their analysis. The next chapter is a summary of information behaviour theories, related concepts, models and current research in the Czech republic. The results of research that was realized for the purpose of the thesis between Czech editors are summarized and analyzed in the conclusion. Based on these results, proposals for the increasing of information literacy of editors are included in the thesis.
