Anamaria Remete TEMA EMMC 2nd year Ethnicity Revisited: the Case of Higher Educated Younger Generation Roma in Contemporary Central and Eastern Europe Abstract This research aims to explore the self perception of ethnicity of younger generation Roma in Central and Eastern Europe. The sample population is represented by two groups of higher educated Roma. First those who were beneficiaries of the university scholarships granted by the Open Society Institute's Roma Initiatives. The organisations are: the Open Society Institute-Budapest, European Roma Rights Centre also in Budapest, the European Roma Information Office in Brussels and the European Roma and Travellers Forum by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . This strategy of the Open Society Institute and the above mentioned NGOs has only a short history, which will be discussed further in the study. The self perception dimension is going to be analyzed through the application of the concept of "everyday ethnicity" as developed by scholars Rogers Brubaker, Paloma Gay y Blasco and Carol Silverman in order to gain insight into the dynamics of the factors that come into play in the process of creating meaning for young and higher-educated Roma in countries from Central and Eastern...

"Guilt and Wrongdoing: The Problem of Responsibility"
Pacovská, Kamila ; Barabas, Marína (advisor) ; Kohák, Erazim (referee) ; Cowley, Christopher (referee)
(in English) This dissertation explores the notions of guilt and wrongdoing in the context of contemporary analytic ethics. It draws upon the critique, advanced in the second half of the 20th century, of a one-sided interest in episodic action and its rightness or wrongness. Thanks to the revival of virtue ethics during this time, the subject matter of ethics was extended to take account of human character and human life as such. As a result, the domain of moral psychology and of contingent aspects of moral experience started to be explored again. This development in ethics is outlined in the first chapter and the second chapter addresses the impact of this changed understanding of ethics upon our conception of moral judgment and responsibility. I suggest that the concept of responsibility divides in two: responsibility for the agent's (inner) fault and responsibility for the wrongdoing itself. Whereas the remainder of chapter two deals with the former, the rest of the thesis focuses upon the latter i.e. upon responsibility for the wrongdoing and upon two problems which are generated by the intricate bearing of luck and contingency on the concept of responsibility. The first of these problems concerns the relation of the person to her guilt. Guilt arises through a condemnable action for which the...

Nekvapil, Václav ; Barša, Pavel (advisor) ; Perottino, Michel (referee) ; Maslowski, Nicolas (referee)
of Ph.D. thesis: Middle Eastern Conflict in the French Public Space (2000-2010) Václav Nekvapil, 2013 The main objective of the thesis is to analyse and typologise French social discourse on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on a reflection of certain opinions, interests, stances and values associated with today's Jewishness and Jewish diasporic identity. The research also contains an analysis of the official political-diplomatic discourse of both Presidents Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy. Based on the methodology of typologisation and critical discourse analysis, we distinguish three basic positions related to the debate on the abovementioned topics in the years 2000- 2010: republican, anti-imperialist and neoconservative. The thesis elaborates on attitudes of presidents of the French Fifth Republic towards Israel and how their policies have been perceived by the Jewish community. The community as such is also a matter of the research: its changing religiosity, demography, immigration of Nord African Jewry and the attitude towards Zionism and the State of Israel. The thesis follows four main thematic axes when analysing arguments of the most important speakers. First, when analysing the duty of memory (devoir de mémoire), the author carefully examines moral argumentation concerning the...
