Ethnographic study of Role-playing in World of Warcraft

This thesis explores the almost unexplored phenomenon of role-playing in the MMORPG video game genre, focusing specifically on role-playing in World of Warcraft (WoW). Its assumption is that although players of this genre overwhelmingly focus on the gameplay aspects of the game, role-playing in MMORPGs exists and takes place as an activity of the fringe culture of players. The aim of this thesis is to investigate this phenomenon in WoW, to find out how role- playing in the game takes place and what artificial reality role-playing participants create in the virtual world of the game, and also to define this phenomenon as a form of role-playing The theoretical part of the thesis is divided into three segments. The first segment deals with role-playing itself and the role-playing game (RPG) genre, which is superior to the MMORPG subgenre. The second segment delves into the known knowledge about role-playing in MMORPGs, and the third describes the examined game WoW. Classification of simulation and gaming in adult education

Jan Froněk, disertační práce, Katedra andragogiky a personálního řízení FF UK v Praze Abstract The dissertation thesis presents varieties of games and simulations in the field of adult education and specializes particularly in role-play and simulation classifications, with the emphasis on presenting case examples of the applications of the methods. To reach the objectives of the dissertation, first of all resources analysis had been made (both scientific resources and practical toolkits). Then the acquired knowledge was reframed into a terminological framework that had existed before, yet had not been defined specifically enough and explicitly for the field of adult education. The second pillar of the thesis represents a survey that was conducted among adult educators. The thesis consists of six main chapters: it is introduced by a general chapter on games, plays and their characteristics and definition (also from adult educator's perspective). A chapter on simulation and gaming classification follows (Chap. 2), from which the largest part of this work is drawn: a detailed categorization of role-play (Chap. 3) and simulation (Chap. 4) varieties. Acting with the Inner Partner as a Way to Develop Teacher's Personal Dispositions

Dissertation thesis Acting with the Inner Partner as a Way to Develop Teacher's Personal Dispositions focuses on specifics of a psychosomatic discipline called Acting with the Inner Partner, in professional training of future teachers. This discipline represents the pedagogy of experimenting with the phenomenon of self-speech in experimental conditions. The emphasis is on the personality of future teachers, as well as on cultivation of their self-reflection. This should lead to a becoming a professional teacher with an authorial approach and authentic acting. The objective of the dissertation thesis is a deeper understanding of psychosomatic disciplines pedagogy, whereas my very own teaching experience at The Department of Psychology and Pedagogy is essential. Specifics of future teachers' personal preparation in the view of psychosomatic disciplines, represents the basic part of this work. Another part focuses on the experience with Acting with the Inner Partner, at first described by a student and later by an assistant (lecturer) and researcher. Common features of so called psychosomatic condition are discovered. The author also searches the possibility of exporting Acting with the Inner Partner out of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology at South Bohemia University. As the methodology of video recording analysis has not been accomplished yet, the starting points for further research are described. The empirical part focuses on typology documented on students' written self-reflections. The objective is to describe the assistant's experience. The interpretation of the research results shows the need to distinguish between the terms 'written teaching self-reflections' and 'written teaching reflections, commonly described as feedback.
Educating Gifted Children and Specific Features of Teaching Foreign Languages to Gifted Children

This thesis concentrates on contexts and view-points, that should determinate the character of activities designed for gifted children in foreign languages classes. This work proposes some methods and ways that are convenient for gifted learners. It deals also with the characteristics of the teacher, who is able to conduct the gifted and the characteristics of the gifted in order to devise such activities that satisfy their special cognitive, emotional and social needs.
The Importance of the Game for the Development of the Individual

The work is focused on the game and it is possibilities in the development of an individual. The game is and describes it is basic charakteristics. Futher more it defines essential terms related to the game: experience, the role game and the toy. The second chapter finds out what singnificance the game has for a man. Above all, what the game effects are in the development of mental and physical characteristics and abilities. The third chapter describes game specifics in the development phases of an individual. It focuses on how a personality and the role of the game change.
An Introduction to Teambuilding

In the first part of my bachelor thesis I address the differences between a group and a team and the principles of teambuilding. This part consists mostly of team theories, defines the individual evolution stages, functions, different teambuilding approaches, aspects of team functioning and management and teamwork efficiency factors. The second parts main concern is the actual teambuilding realisation and defining activities suitable for teambuilding led by a team leader, likely for realisation with the use of an extern firm. Activities arranged by extern realisators are divided according to the type and specialisation of given programs. The conclusion of my thesis outlines various situations, for which teambuilding is not suitable.
