Filičková, Andrea ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Kiczková, Zuzana (referee)
The basic concept of the thesis is an analysis of a TV programme "Q" broadcasted by the Czech Television. The programme surveys queer subculture not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad, deals with searching for identities across the genders and disrupts conventions stemming from values of the heteronormative society. The programme title refers directly to the concept of queer, which represents a social phenomenon bringing about gender and sexual diversity and plurality. The thesis looks at the genesis of the programme from its origins, to its production, its broadcasting and finally its cancellation and replacing with another format. The motivation and reasons of the production team and the management for carrying the programme through and including it in the broadcast programming is discussed here, as well as the related decision-making processes and production mechanisms or the way the authors use feminist theories and gender aspects in the programme. The thesis also takes into consideration the long-term development of the programme's ratings. The main working method is qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews with the programme's authors. In terms of media production the thesis deals with organizational practices in the programme's production.

77 Abstract Obligatory representation of women on corporate boards The main topic of this master thesis deals with obligatory women representation on boards of stock listed companies from the theoretical point of view with focus on European and Czech legislation. Women are under-represented in this area for a long time, which not only violates the basic human rights principle regarding gender equality, but also does not use the available human resources and thus wastes talent. The second chapter first describes the development of EU law in relation to positive measures that can justify a higher participation of women in the bodies of business corporations in relation to the principle of non-discrimination, mentioning the most important case law of the ECJ. Than is also mentioned the possibility of positive measures in Czech legislation. The second chapter also mentions the economic aspects of women's representation on boards in the sense that the presence of women can influence the body and thus the whole corporation. The third chapter describes the means by which women's participation in corporate bodies can be increased, what goals can be achieved and what sanctions can be imposed in case of non-compliance with the set goals. Gender board diversity and its impact on firm performance in the Czech Republic
Černík, David ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Dvořáková Švejdová, Lenka (referee)
The purpose of this study is to examine the extent of gender inequality on boards of joint-stock companies and the relationship between gender diversity on board of directors and the return on assets in the Czech Republic. Using a panel data set of 204 Czech companies of various sizes over the years 2003 - 2011, we discovered that women are considerably underrepresented on corporate boards and that the gender board diversity has not significantly changed over the observed time period. The results of regression analysis showed a non-significant effect on return on assets for all our gender diversity measures, even after we accounted for endogeneity of the gender diversity variable in the form of fixed effects method and two-stage least squares estimator. Economic justification of potential legislation that should force the companies to appoint more women into board positions was therefore not found. Moreover, if companies account for underlying cost of implementing such measures, firm performance might be negatively affected in the short term. 1

The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between female representation on boards of British FTSE 100 companies and their corporate performance. The theoretical section sets the foundation for the initial hypotheses that there is a positive relationship between the percentage of women on corporate boards and a firm's profitability, measured as ROE and ROIC. The methodological part establishes an analytical framework to test these hypotheses utilizing the so-called 'quartile approach'. The FTSE 100 companies are categorized into quartiles in accordance with their respective percentage of female directors and subsequently, the average values of ROE and ROIC are calculated for each quartile and compared between each other. The research in the practical part of the thesis shows that profitability varies significantly when comparing the least and most gender diverse FTSE 100 boards. The aim of the thesis was reached by proving the positive correlation between the percentage of female board members and profitability, validated by sensitivity and statistical analyses.
