Šárka Peterková Abstract The central theme of this dissertation is human evaluation of animals from the perspective of subjectively experienced emotions and their psychophysiological correlates. It deals mainly with the emotion of disgust and its connection with aesthetic evaluation and perception of animal beauty, and, on the other hand, with another negative emotion, fear. It also aims to assess the findings from an evolutionary perspective and to understand the role of emotions evoked by animals in present times. It contains a total of six papers that were part of broader scientific projects, each of which addresses the subject from a slightly different angle. The first paper is a review dealing with negative emotions evoked by animals and is thus part of the theoretical introduction to this dissertation. It provides an overview of the subjective evaluation of animals according to fear and disgust, places the role of negative emotions in an evolutionary context, and finally analyses specific morphological features of representatives of different taxa that influence human perception. The second article details the assessment of emotions evoked by amphibians. In this case, the degree of perceived disgust is so...

Arachnophobia and the cause of fear of spiders
Říha, Roman ; Dolejš, Petr (advisor) ; Vlček, Kamil (referee)
Fear of spiders is largely widespread, and in some cases may even grow into a phobia. Negative attitude towards spiders can be found already in the mythology of some peoples. This attitude is often in the Western culture. It is interesting that this fear persists even though there are very few spiders which are able to endanger human life. There are more possible causes of arachnophobia, including classical conditioning, information transmission and impact of disgust emotions. Right the disgust seems to be the probable explanation of spider phobia. Relevance fear is documented by a list of dangerous spiders to humans. Some spiders are in fact able to endanger human health by toxins contained in their venom. Basic questions to deal with are validity of human fear of spiders and possible causes of this negative relationship.

Rybářová, Kateřina ; Komárková, Tereza (advisor) ; Sedláčková, Daniela (referee)
The objective of this thesis "Anxiety And Fear At School" is to further reasearch how and when teachers feel ready and able to recognize an anxious child at school and as well to be able to work with a child whose anxiety may be caused by a specific situation at school. The thesis researches school as a potential source of anxiety and fear and describes specific situations which may cause or contribute to this phenomenon. In addition, a current issue which is outlined in the text is pedagogical-psychological diagnostics and related diagnostic competence of teachers. Theoretical findings are supported by research conducted amongst teachers. Two case studies of students which have experienced fear and anxiety at school, connected to specific school situations are provided. These case studies observe the solutions in those situations, as well as the impact of the experience on the students in question. The education of teachers at universities in the field of pedagogical-psychological diagnosis can in certain cases be insufficient and sometimes can also be difficult to apply in real life situations. This can lead to some situations of an anxious child at school being dealt with intuitively rather than professionally. The availability of electronic information can provide untrained teachers with a...
