Didactic interpretation of the novel Meta
Lacinová, Kristina ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Neumann, Lukáš (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the position of the novel Meta within the contemporary Czech literary scene, its analysis, interpretation from a genre and narratological point of view, and didactic potential. First of all, I deal with the general concept of popular and fantastic literature, its potential significance in teaching and the book categories of young adult and new adult, as the researched novel Meta falls under these genres and categories. I place the novel in the context of Czech and world fantasy literature and present how it is perceived by literary criticism. The main goal of the thesis is to capture the didactic potential of the novel and to demonstrate the wide possibilities of its use in teaching literature. Structural analysis and interpretation of themes and ideas will be used for this purpose. With this detailed literary analysis, I want to prove that the novel Meta should not be viewed only as popular literature without deeper ideas, but that it could differ in its construction, themes and overall meaning from the majority of modern novels for youth and young adults. Not only does Meta provide a powerful reading experience, from a literary point of view the text is constructed of interesting narrative processes, fragmented composition and offers a critical view of today's...

Červ, Petr ; Komberec, Filip (advisor) ; Starý, Karel (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the didactic potential of A Song of Ice and Fire by the American writer George R. R. Martin and focuses on high schools. Its goal is to show to what extent Martin's saga, and therefore its series adaptation, can be used for teaching not only literature, but also other subjects, and at the same time prepare specific lessons that teachers can immediately use in their classes. The first part defines the concept of fantasy and provides basic data about the author's life, especially those that affect his later work. Furthermore, the realities from the world in which the saga takes place are mentioned and briefly characterized, as well as the six main characters of the whole story are presented here. It also summarizes those works that do not belong to the main line of the saga itself, but fall into a wider range of works that deal with the Westeros, the fictional world of A Song of Ice and Fire. In the second part, individual lessons are proposed, in which high school students work with excerpts of the texts from A Songs of Ice and Fire and through various methods and activities such as mind maps, picture quizes and others are guided to goals that go beyond the normal framework of literary education. A total of eight teaching lessons are elaborated in this work, one of...

The presented thesis deals with the topic of the war and concentration camps in the novels Das siebte Kreuz (in English The seventh Cross) by Anna Seghers and Der Funke Leben (in English Spark of Life) by Erich Maria Remarque with a special focus on the topic of solidarity. Literary-didactic potential of "České nebe"
Jiskrová, Zuzana ; Peterka, Josef (advisor) ; Klumparová, Štěpánka (referee)
This thesis directly continues my bachelor thesis titled "What and Why do we laugh with Jára Cimrman at". The first, theoretical part, sums up the observation of the poetics of the plays of Jára Cimrman Theatre and subsequently proves them through interpretation of the last play of Smoljak & Svěrák called "České nebe". The first two chapters provide the theoretical base of knowledge for the four-hour-long lesson based on "České nebe" itself. Both these chapters mainly focus on the used humour and the character of Jára Cimrman, the Czech national genius, but also on related topics such as mystification, space-time, Czechness and composition. The second part of the thesis is then the main one which brings the theory into practice. "České nebe" as a play offers an enormous didactic potential which can be used to verify and deepen one's literacy. The didactic part includes a complex preparation for four lessons, for which it provides a basic introduction of Jára Cimrman Theatre and a summary of comedy techniques used by this theatre, which have a strong emphasis on parody. Mainly, though, it provides a brief insight into the opinions, values and the culturally-historical knowledge of a today's adolescent. The students had a chance to elect their own Czech heaven committee in their class and, by doing...

The work also gives information about Roald Dahl's life and contextualizes his works into his life. Last but not least, the thesis focuses on a mini-research of the amount of Dahl's texts in reading-books for the pupils of the fourth grade at primary schools.
