The aim of this thesis is to present a functionally equivalent translation of five chapters from a book about Spanish equitation. This book was primarily aimed to Spanish readers with at least basic knowledge about the topic and about Spanish history, traditions and culture. The thesis consists of two parts: the proper text of the translation, and the following commentary which focuses first on the analysis of the original text and problematic areas which we find while translating the text, and second on strategies and shifts used for solving all of the translation problems. Each of these strategies goes with illustrations from both the original and the translated text. There is a copy of the original text and respective photos attached in the appendix.

Momo Kapor: Magija Beograda - commented rendition of a narrative cycle

Short story cycle Magija Beograda (2008, The Magic of Belgrade, Czech anthology Belgrade, my magic love!, 2014) is one of the last works of Serbian author Momo Kapor. His subject matter is contemporary picture of Belgrade and characters in his work are people, who are emotionally bound to this city. The aim of this dissertation is to introduce a Czech translation of the short stories and their translatological commentary. This work deals with the theme of Belgrade work of Kapor, which the author engaged in throughout his whole life and wrote in this style for more than ten years. This area of his work still does not have a Czech literary translation. This dissertation also brings more coherent author's portrait. Pivotal part consists of two chapters, first one is devoted to the profile of the author and the second one to the translation and commentary.

From peace to Crimea: Russia's media image in Czech commentary in years 2013-2014

Bachelor's thesis titled From peace to Crimea: Russia's media image in Czech commentary in years 2013-2014 analyzes the form of commentaries related to Russian federation and endeavors to capture a transformation of medial view on the country in the context of Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, conflict in Ukraine and all previous events. The theoretical background of the whole thesis is based on the theories of social and medial construction of reality such as agenda setting, framing and gate-keeping and deals with stereotyping as well. An extensive chapter is devoted to Czech-Russian relations in a time span longer than a century, presents important points in shared history and mentions events which radically influenced international history in the past. The analytic part applies the method of quantitative content analysis and utilizes elements of qualitative content analysis. The presented media image of Russia is based on examination of eight variables (frequency, media, extent, author, event, topic, evaluation of Russia's role and stereotypes).

The Pied Piper of Marina Tsvetaeva: Genesis, Reception and Translations of Poems with Commentary

Russian poet Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva (1892-1941) is one of the world's most prominent authors of the early 20th century. The Pied Piper (Ratcatcher) is the magnum opus of her work. The aim of my thesis was to literally translate the poem and provide a detailed commentary on the poem. Translation is designed for the future Slavonic Studies, but also for the wider public. The translation is a kind of proposal and could be used as the default text for a possible poetic translation of the poem into Czech. The intention of the commentary is to point out the relationships of the Tsvetaeva's Pied Piper and possible sources of inspiration of the texts of other authors or her own original works. The commentary also explains the concepts specific to the creation of Tsvetaeva and her characteristic individual poetic methods. The commentary, however, provide, nearly no interpretation. It is used only as a supplementary comment on individual parts in order to enable better understanding of the original text and the translation. The first chapters deal with the history of the poem, its genesis, and reception by critics and writers. This thesis concerns the commentary genre in both theorethical and practical sense. The theorethical part defines commentary and places it in the context of journalistic genres. It also deals with evolution of the genre in the Czech territory. It concerns the begginings of czech commentary in the 19th century, then the state of Czech opinion journalism and commentary between the First World War and the Second World War is described. The works of Ferdinand Peorutka, Zdeněk Nejedlý and Václav Sinkule are also analysed. In this part the current commentary and its role in contemporary media scene is described. The role of commentary authors on social networks and the relationship of commentary and current audiovisual media are also described. Contemporary Czech authors are also analysed. The analysed authors are Erik tabery, Bohumil Pečinka and Jiří Peňás. The practical part of this thesis contains original commentaries concerning domestic themes. In these I am adressing current topics in Czech society. The commentaries are dealing with new left wing parties in Czechia, disputes between the opposition parties, the personality of Pavel Novotný, the decrease in public offcials wages, political corectness and the scandal of spokesman and poet Petr Kukal, The English language of Alena Schillerová,...

The bachelor thesis Online movie reviews of a biographic Bohemian Rhapsody and users comments in Česko-Slovenská filmová databáze compares and analyzes domestic and foreign selected movie internet reviews and user comments on Česko-Slovenská filmová databáze and foreign databases. The first part of the thesis deals with the theoretical definition of the genre of review, criticism and commentary, the biographical film is defined and the dramatic structure of the film work is described. Following is the characteristics of the media that will be monitored in the thesis. The thesis describes Czech and foreign websites from which the reviews were drawn and also describes the essence of Czech and foreign film databases. The second part is dedicated to the Queen, its beginnings and successes and the life of the frontman of the band Freddie Mercury is analyzed. The thesis further analyzes the film Bohemian Rhapsody, compares reality with the depiction in the film and deals with the complications that arose during the shooting. Cílem této bakalářské práce je překlad technického textu z českého jazyka do anglického a okomentovat aspekty překladu a problémy s tím spojené. Vybraný text jsou elektronická skripta, sdílená na e-learningu a používána Vysokým Učením Technickým v Brně výhradně pro výukové účely v oboru mikroelektrotechnika. Teoretická část uvádí teorii překladu, její procedury, postupy a typy. Také obsahuje popis funkčních stylů, obzvláště stylu odborného. Praktická část je reprezentována překladem prvních dvou kapitol – Úvodem a technologií CMOS. Závěrečná – analytická část obsahuje komentáře různých problémů z odlišných lingvistických hledisek.

The thesis aims to examine the 'Komentář za minutu' format, published by the online offshoot of 'Hospodářské noviny' daily from November 2014 to January 2017. The theoretical part brings forward the Economia publishing house in context of corporate convergence, as well as attributes of comment genres, online videos, and particularities of audio-visual instruments. The practical part qualitatively analyses data acquired by interviews with journalists of 'Hospodářské noviny' daily who featured in Komentář za minutu. All interviews are included.
