Strategies of use of general geographic map as a source of information
Trokšiar, David
The main topic of this thesis are map skills, and the key point of interest are strategies used for map analysis. General reference map was found as a suitable map given its frequent use in the school atlases. The main goal of this study is evaluation of the general reference map analysis strategies in terms of their dimensions, i. e. their repertoire, distribution, efficiency, and adaptability. 20 upper secondary school students participated in an eye-tracking experiment that consisted of the test and the follow-up questionnaire. The eye-tracking data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to obtain information about the strategy dimensions. Results showed that students used broad repertoire of strategies when analyzing the general reference map and they pointed to the most chosen strategies as well. In some cases, students used more than one strategy to solve the task and thus the most frequent strategy combinations were detected. The efficiency of strategies was evaluated based on the students' success rate and the length of the solving cycle which was affected by the type of elements, respectively map content, used for solving the task. The ability to adapt to specific task demand was proven by addition of elements needed into the strategy or using entirely different strategy type. The...
An ethical evaluation of philanthropic strategies employed by charitable organisations operating in Mongu district of Western Zambia
MUTEMWA, David
This study has been prompted by the fact that very little is known about the ethical aspects and operating strategies of charitable organisations in Mongu district of Western Zambia despite an influx of such organisations in the area from pre-colonial times. The aim of the study is to evaluate the ethical aspects of philanthropic strategies employed by charitable organisations operating in Mongu. Within social work, which is the guiding framework of this study, evidence of results alone does not satisfy the ethical aspect because ethics in social work are mainly deontological in nature, which means that the end does not always justify the means. The study endeavours to contribute to the discourse of philanthropic social work and, especially, towards a model for evaluating ethical aspects of philanthropic strategies of charities from the unique context of the charitable organisations operating in Mongu district of Western Zambia, which will also inform praxis in other similar contexts.

Obadia, Lucy ; Fiřtová, Magdalena (advisor) ; Arregui Moreno, Francisco Javier (referee)
Greenwashing, a prevalent phenomenon within the fashion industry, continues to pose significant challenges. Recognising the severity of this problem, the European Union (EU) has emphasised the need to safeguard consumers against misleading practices. This thesis critically analyses the impact of the EU's initiative to regulate greenwashing practices and evaluate the effectiveness of the New Green Claims Directive in the context of the fashion industry. By adopting a consumer perspective, this research explores the Directive's coverage of greenwashing practices and assesses its real-world efficacy. Employing a comprehensive approach, this study examines the implementation of the Directive through a case study of Primark's sustainability claims. Scrutinising the company's practices, it sheds light on the greenwashing tactics that the Directive may have overlooked. Through this examination, the research seeks to contribute to the existing literature by assessing the effectiveness of green claims and the potential impact of the EU Green Claims Directives. The findings of this study underscore the significance of the fashion industry's lack of stable regulations in combatting greenwashing. The analysis reveals the complexities associated with regulating misleading practices and highlights the need for...

The impact of international linkages on the behaviour of environmental non-governmental organisations
Suchá, Magdaléna ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Tomalová, Eliška (referee)
Master's Thesis Magdaléna Suchá Summer 2021/2022 Abstract The growing number of NGOs has also resulted in the growing interest of academics in them. However, the available literature on NGOs suffers from several weaknesses. For example, researchers do not substantially reflect the influence of international linkages on organizational behavior. The theory of sociological institutionalism, which is the theoretical framework of this thesis, assumes that through contacts and the influence of exposure to international structures, the institution changes and with it its behavior. The aim of this thesis is therefore to find an answer to the question of whether it is indeed the different degrees of institutionalization of organizations that manifest themselves externally in different behavior. The answer to the question is sought through an analysis of the behavior of two differently internationally institutionalized NGOs linked by their subject of interest - the environment. The first organization is the Greenpeace Czech Republic, the Czech branch of the international NGO, while the second NGO is Hnutí DUHA, which has its roots purely in the Czech Republic. The first part of the thesis introduces the theory of new institutionalism with a focus on its concrete form - sociological institutionalism, followed by a...
The enforcement of same sex marriage through the lens of multiple streams framework
Pluhař, Filip ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Hejzlarová, Eva (referee)
This thesis aims to describe and explain the process of advocating for an amendment to the Civil Code that would legalize same-sex marriage in the Czech Republic. This proposal which was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies in 2018 had never been approved. The current legislation allows gays and lesbians to enter into a registered partnership with limited rights compared to the institution of marriage. The thesis should identify the arguments and strategies used by the same-sex marriage policy entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it aims to find the reasons which led to the rejection of the proposed amendment. The perspective of Multiple streams framework is applied to the whole issue. Analysis is based mainly on the findings obtained from the interviews with policy entrepreneurs and the deputies who voted on the amendment. Transcripts of the Chamber of Deputies proceedings and media outputs were used as secondary data. The results show in which cases were the entrepreneurs successful and at which stage of the process the opposite was true. The thesis then describes possible reasons that led to the failure and attempts to justify why certain strategies and arguments were ineffective and did not convince the deputies - decision makers.
