Lelek, Jakub ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Kolenovská, Daniela (referee)
Bachelor thesis Collapse of the USSR - Russian national tragedy? Analysis of the Russian public opinion on the dissolution of the Soviet Union discusses the Russian public opinion development about the end of the Soviet Union during the presidency of Boris Yeltsin (1991 - 1999) and Vladimir Putin (2000 - 2008). The first chapter illustrates the situation in Russia after the collapse of the USSR; afterwards it describes the social, political and economic situation of the country during mentioned periods. Based on the available opinion polls and academic works the second part of the thesis examines the shift in Russian understanding of the collapse of the Soviet Union. The fundamental premise of this thesis is the idea that the end of the USSR was Russian national tragedy. After the analysis author concludes that in Russian society during the presidency of both Yeltsin and Putin remained a basic level of post- Soviet nostalgia, yet it wasn't a national tragedy. The regretting was presented within the older generation, for which the Soviet Union symbolized not only a major global player in international politics, but also their own (often idealized) youth, as well as within the younger generation, that has never had direct experience with the USSR. Furthermore author concludes that due to the...

Media image of the Soviet Union in selected Communist and Christian Democratic weeklies during the Third Czechoslovak Republic The paper deals with selected aspects of the media image of the Soviet Union during the Third Czechoslovak Republic. Its aim is to analyze the mechanisms of media image construction in two journals of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and in two weeklies of the Czechoslovak People's Party. Partial aim represents an effort to compare the resemblance of discourse of the USSR between Communist and Christian Democratic journals and then effort to capture eventual changes of the discourse image during the analyzed period. To achieve the objective we use method of critical discourse analysis inspired by the design from the pen of J. P. Gee. The first part presents historiographical outline of specific socio-political conditions of the Third Republic. Second, theoretical and methodological chapter provides an overview of the conceptual framework embedding that is used for the text analysis. The research part identifies that some discursive aspects of the image of the USSR in Communist and Christian Democratic conception seem to be diversifying over time, others are different from the outset.

Dzeraviaha, Hanna ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
The present thesis is dedicated to the thematic agenda of the magazine Svět sovětů (The World of Soviets) during the pre-war period (1934 - 1938) and the post-war years (1945 - 1946) as well as the image of the Soviet women that this magazine was forming. Fundamental intention of this research was to process complex set of topics of this magazine during mentioned time intervals, then capture differences (in case there were any) in the description during those periods and subsequently analyze the portion of articles that was dedicated to a Soviet woman, especially with regard to the following analysis of her image that was artificially constructed in the given magazine. The aim of this paper was to reconstruct the image of the "look" of the Soviet women and make comparison of its development during the period before World War II and subsequently after it was over. The assumption was that her portrayal depended on promotional and agitational politics of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union itself, and that this image was changing depending on the political objectives of the Communist Party and the Soviets, which varied in accordance with the historical events that were taking place. This thesis therefore presents image of Soviet women deliberately formed as means of agitation and...

Jan Lomíček Doctoral thesis External and internal factors of Soviet Union image creation in interwar Czechoslovakia Abstract The doctoral thesis uses both Czechoslovak and foreign archival sources and period sovietica to analyse the most relevant inner and outer factors influencing the creation of a positive image of the Soviet Union in the eyes of interwar Czechoslovak public. On one hand, there were various mechanisms used by the Soviet propaganda. Here we can mention propagandist image of the USSR which was created according to Czechoslovak sympathizers' needs - pictorial periodicals, foreign broadcasting meeting listeners' demands etc. At the same time, the Czechoslovak public adopted the identical categories that were used by the Soviet side to describe the reality, such as work - education - equality - emancipation - freedom - new versus old - civilization - development - growth. Besides common propagandist means the USSR used also the foreigners' visits to confirm its idealized image. The approach to Czechoslovak citizens was improved after the Soviet travel agency Inturist had been launched. This agency should take care of the foreign visitors. However, the interwar travels to the USSR were not too common and frequent, which was caused both by the Soviet byrocracy and costs of such trips. The...

Slavíková, Kateřina ; Pech, Milan (advisor) ; Czumalo, Vladimír (referee)
Dvizhenie (1962-1976) Experimental formation of the group and its presentation outside the USSR Abstract The bachelor's thesis focuses on the Moscow art group Dvizhenie, which was formed mainly thanks to the founding member, Lev Nusberg, at the beginning of the 1960s. The group was active until 1976 and during that time the group became one of the most comprehensive and distinguished formations in Soviet art at the time, mainly due to its experimental work. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the artistic development of the group. At the beginning, Dvizhenie drew from the Russian avant-garde of the 1920s, which shaped the first wave of kinetic art in Europe. The group's geometric works on paper gradually transfer into space. Eventually, Dvizhenie evolved in its work towards a kinetic sculpture which was experiencing a renaissance throughout and beyond Europe in the 1950s. Movement as an artistic expression led the group to experiment with cybernetics - its members combined this new technology with modern psychology focused on the perception of artworks and scenography. The group's peak was cyber theatre, which primarily wanted to engage all the audience's senses. The second part of the thesis focuses on the relationship of Dvizhenie with the totalitarian policy of the USSR. Surprisingly, the...
