Analysis of clients needs in low-threshold drop-in center SANANIM: Questionnaire survey
Ayapbekova, Dinara ; Petruželka, Benjamin (advisor) ; Nováková, Elizabeth (referee)
Background: Human needs encompass a spectrum ranging from fundamental physiological requirements, such as breathing and sustenance, to elevated needs like love and appreciation. While most individuals fulfill these needs through typical social interactions, certain groups, including those engaging in illicit drug use, seek assistance from institutions such as the SANANIM contact centre. The objective of this thesis is to ascertain the perceived needs of clients at the facility and evaluate the extent to which these needs are being addressed. These insights can contribute to enhancing existing services and introducing new ones where necessary. Another objective is to formulate a unique questionnaire suitable for consistently assessing the requirements of the facility's clientele. Methods: The instrument of data production was an original questionnaire, created specifically for the research, which was filled in with the respondent by the interviewer - PAPI (Pen and Paper Interviewing). Research Sample: The study involved 60 clients of the low-threshold center SANANIM who utilize the services provided by this facility. Results: The research highlights the prevalence of social difficulties, significantly impacting the clients. Social relationships emerge as a key area of concern. Within the realm of...
Patterns of use and needs assessment of young adults using illicit drugs in Prague
Gažová, Nikola ; Mravčík, Viktor (advisor) ; Černíková, Tereza (referee)
Background: Understanding patterns of use and the needs of young adult users of illegal addictive substances presents a challenge primarily due to the hidden nature of this problem. Individuals engaging in problem drug use (PDU) may face severe health and social problems. Prague stands among regions with the highest prevalence of PDU, yet low-threshold addiction services note an aging trend among their clients. Establishing contact with this group has the potential to reduce consequences and encourage less risky usage patterns, while simultaneously facilitating entry into further addiction care services. Aim: The aim of the research was to analyze the needs of the young adult substance users in Prague, who fit the definition of PDU according to EMCDDA, with a focus on identifying patterns of usage and needs in relation to low-threshold addiction services. The research results were intended to serve as an initiative for improving the services provided. Methods: A study employing the Rapid Assessment and Response (RAR) method was conducted. The research sample was obtained through purposive sampling and comprised 6 young adults in PDU in Prague (3 in contact with services, 3 from the hidden population), along with 18 key informants (peer workers, experts from low-threshold and other social services,...
Need Assessment of Alcohol-dependent Seniors in Medium-term Institutional Treatment
Ondráčková, Petra ; Šťastná, Lenka (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Background: Owing to current demographic trends reflecting an aging population, there is an increase in the group of older individuals facing issues related to alcohol consumption. This group is increasingly seeking assistance within the network of addiction services, including medium-term institutional treatment. Due to the unique physical, emotional, and cognitive characteristics associated with aging seniors and older adults respond differently to treatment compared to younger adults. Currently, healthcare providers often lack sufficient interventions related to treatment and harm reduction for substance use among older adults, addressing a broad-spectrum risk associated with substance use in this age group. Goals: The goal of the thesis is to use needs analysis to determine the needs of older users in medium-term institutional treatment and to assess whether the range of interventions meets these needs. Additionally, the thesis aims to identify potential improvements to the service better address these needs. Methodology: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with clients undergoing medium- term institutional treatment. The research sample, consisting of 7 men and 6 women aged 65 and older, was selected through intentional (purposive) sampling, specifically employing purposive selection...

Schubertová, Annika ; Libra, Jiří (advisor) ; Radimecký, Josef (referee)
Background: Drug consumption rooms are a service where clients can consume illegal addictive substances under the supervision of trained staff. In some countries, drug consumption rooms have been in operation for over 30 years, and various studies provide positive results that acquaint us with the benefits that drug consumption rooms provide. However, this master thesis does not aim to focus on the already confirmed, but on the specific experiences and needs of individuals who are in almost daily contact with this type of service. The research was done in a low-threshold facility with a drug consumption room in Berlin named Birkenstube. This facility has been in operation since the beginning of 2004 and is thus one of the first facilities with a drug consumption room in the city of Berlin. Despite its long history, tradition and constantly changing needs of its clientele, the activity of this facility was last evaluated in the year 2015. Aims: The aim of this work is to investigate and analyse the needs of clients who use the services of a low- threshold facility with a drug consumption room Birkenstube in Berlin. With the help of interviews with selected respondents, we will subsequently find out whether the clients are provided with what they really need from the service, or whether it would be...

MACEŠKOVÁ, Eliška
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the needs of a selected facility for clients with mental or combined disabilities. The aim of the thesis is to find out the needs of the employees of the selected facility and the needs of its clients - specifically, clients living in sheltered housing. The research within the diploma thesis was prepared and realized on the basis of an order from the top management of the facility. The diploma thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. Within the framework of the theoretical part, terms related to the topic of the diploma thesis are defined - persons with mental or combined disabilities, their needs, the needs of employees, etc. - and important theoretical starting points are given within its framework. The practical part of the diploma thesis deals with the research itself - from the setting of goals and research questions, through the methodology, interpretation of the results, their comparison with theoretical starting points to the conclusion. A qualitative research strategy was chosen for the research in the practical part of this thesis, together with the interview method and the semi-structured interview technique. The research resulted in a comparison of the needs of the employees of the three sections, the needs of clients living in sheltered housing and a comparison of the needs of the employees with the needs of the clients, within the given facility. Based on the research, it became clear, for example, that there are similarities, but also differences in the needs of employees across individual departments. The results of the research will serve as direct feedback to the top management of the given facility regarding the needs and satisfaction of employees and clients of sheltered housing within it.

Ždímalová, Hana ; Mothejzíková, Jarmila (advisor) ; Betáková, Lucie (referee) ; Mánek, Bohuslav (referee)
The Pre-listening Stage in L2 Listening Instruction to A2 - B1 Adult Learners By Hana Ždímalová This dissertation deals with listening instruction to adult EFL learners in the Czech Republic and the phenomenon of pre-listening, which is currently under-researched. It examines adult EFL students' perspectives and perceptions of listening instruction and of the inclusion of different pre-listening techniques, particularly at CEFR A2-B1 proficiency levels. The theoretical part of the study focuses on current developments in listening research and the historical context of the development of listening instruction in classical FLT methodology. The pre-listening stage has been integral to L2 listening instruction since the beginning of Communicative Language Teaching. However, some controversial issues have recently been raised. For example, teachers are sometimes suspected of spending too much time on the pre- listening stage (Field 2002; 2008) and the overall usefulness of previewed comprehension questions in testing listening has been challenged (Sherman 1997). Moreover, adult students' listening needs and their perceptions of listening instruction have not yet been thoroughly researched (Graham 2006; Graham and Macaro 2008). This study argues that we should ask the students about their perceptions...
