Ladislav Smoljak, editor of the Mladý svět magazine

This thesis deals with a not very well-known topic - it analyses the journalistic and publicist work of Ladislav Smoljak in the print media, especially in the magazine Mladý svět. It aims to reveal how Smoljak approached his work as a journalist, what were the specific features of his work, with what topics he dealt, and to what extent he contributed to the image of the magazine. I also include an article bibliography of Ladislav Smoljak during his time at the editorial office of Mladý svět. In the theoretical part, I present Smoljak's biography together with an outline of the historical context and a description of the Czechoslovak media scene of the time. The practical part then analyses Smoljak's texts and assesses his role in the magazine.
Visual political satire in the Czech media

Thesis called Visual political satire in the Czech media shows different types of visual satire which appeared in Czech media during its history and places them in historical context. It examines the political satire in detail from the fifties of the twentieth century, when the communist regime in Czechoslovakia was established. But the largest space is dedicated to the digital age. It describes technological changes which influenced birth of a new kind of satire, photomontage. Thesis focuses on declared photomontage. At first, it shows montages that appear in traditional media and then it proceeds to the internet. Presently, the content of web pages with media theme is created by amateurs as well. Thesis focuses on the production of one such amateur who takes part in the online citizen journalism, Teo Adamy. He comments politics through his montages. By the analysis of his photomontages, we find out in which topics the author is interested and how he processes them. Thesis closely analyzes the category Celebrity/Poblitici and looks for motives that repeat in his images. The final output is comprehensive preview to author's creation.
The first people in space according to Czechoslovak media

This thesis focused on how propaganda was used in the Czechoslovak media and how that directly relatedd to the first people in space. The aim is an analysis of celebrities of Soviet state system including Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova and also John Glenn for comparison. The thesis discusses how these people were promoted and constructed into cult heroes in Eastern, Western and Third World countries. The secondary literature of this subject was not yet analysed and the author wants to use it for further study. The contemporary sources are used in the press - Rude pravo, Mlady svet, Dikobraz, ABC mladych prirodovedcu a techniku and the Ceskoslovensky vojak.

Bacelor thesis analysis medial reflection of Václav Havel in czech press in the time of "November 1989". Analysis is focus on changes in presentation of disident and "persona non grata" on medial scene, that changed in very short time to public leader and then president od Czechoslovakia. Thesis first introduces czechoslovak press in specific time of social change, and then analysis, how this change influenced presentation of Václav Havel. For analysis vere chosen influential czech daily papers, that covered whole spectra of opinions on Václav Havel. Medial contents were primarily analysis qualitatively, separated on timelines, to recognition developing tendencies. Then contens of these media was compared in quantitative study, that has analyses differences in relationships to Václav Havel in dependence on events of "November 1989". Thesis acknowlidges same known facts about medial presentation on Václav Havel, but in other parts it openes a new themes and questions, that has not been so much explored to this times. For example ambivalent relationship of daily paper Mladá fronta.
Position of the magazine Mladý svět in Czechoslovakia during the seventies and eighties

Diploma thesis "Position of the magazine Mladý svět in Czechoslovakia during the seventies and eighties" deals with the magazine for young people called Mladý svět. It gives a brief summary of its creation and development during the sixties and focuses on the period of seventies and eighties. It explains political and social situation of that period in Czechoslovakia, especially in area of mass media, and it particulary works with content of the magazine. It analysis the number and content of its columns, the way they were interpreted and development of these characteristics during the given period. It follows topics of the articles and its relation to readers of the magazine and communist regime and its institutions. It deals with the audience of Mladý svět and especially with its reactions and feedback it provided. Than it focuses on the censorship and the way the magazine was controlled, on the given regulations and imposed penalties. It attempts to explain reasons why Mladý svět become phenomenon of its era and why it had so unique position within similar mass media products.
The fenomenon of Karel Gott in Czech press during 1960s - 1980s

This diploma thesis with the title The phenomenon of Karel Gott in Czech press during 1960s-1980s researches a media representation of Karel Gott. Media representation of the most popular singer of Czechoslovakia is in this thesis constructed based on the analysis of media contents of three contemporary printed serials during the years 1959-1989. The theoretical part of this thesis focuses on the area of cultural politics, it deals with specific attributes of popular music in Czechoslovakia and it also presents the identity of Karel Gott. This part of thesis also deals with the press production with focus on the censorship. The aim of this thesis is to compile the media representation of Karel Gott using the method of critical discourse analysis presented by Norman Fairclough. The analysis uses mentioned method to research contents regarding Karel Gott and published in contemporary printed media, such as the serial Mladý svět, Vlasta, Pionýrské noviny, Sedmička and also Sedmička pionýrů. Media Image of Life in the Suburb of Prague in the 70s and 80s in Contemporary Czechoslovakian Media

This master's thesis concerns the construction and the life in the Ďáblice housing estate in Prague during the seventies and the eighties of the twentiethcentury and presents its reflection in contemporary Czechoslovakian media, namely in Rudé právo and Lidová demokracie dailies, Mladý svět magazine and relevant programs of Czechoslovakian Television. The Ďáblice housing estate was built between 1968 and 1983. To this day, it is considered to be unique for its urban composition in the Czechoslovakian context. The aim of the thesis was to present the media image of this housing estate in the normalization era between the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 and the Velvet Revolution in 1989. First, the theoretical part of the thesis describes the historical context and significant political and social events and phenomena. It also brings characterization of the contemporary media landscape with more detailed description of the researched media sources. Youth in photographs in Mladý svět magazine (1959-1989) Jana Teplá Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyze the way youth was visually represented in the photographs in Mladý svět magazine and to find out whether and how this representation has changed during the period from 1959 to 1989 depending on the changes of discourse practices and socio-cultural practices. The study also aims to uncover how the discourse of news photographs has mingled with the discourse on youth in socialist Czechoslovakia. The specific objective of this research is to analyze the photographs of Czechoslovak youth on the front pages of the magazine with focus on the news values and the ideological messages they mediate. For the analysis of photographs were used mixed methods. Quantitative content analysis was applied to determine the news values, social semiotic analysis was applied to identify the ideological messages and oral history method was used for the extension of the contextual framework.
