Restoration attempts of the Emperor Charles
Zatloukal, Alois ; Balla, Petr (advisor) ; Rak, Jiří (referee)
During 1921, after the break-up of Austria-Hungary, Charles Habsburg attempted twice to return to the Hungarian throne. His attempts were unsuccessful in both cases. These restaurant attempts have resulted in the outbreak of the crisis in the newly established international post-war European system. The response of the individual states, in particular the reaction of the Little Entente headed by Edvard Benes, contributed to the escalation of the event to the brink of the war. The thesis aims to clarify the factors that led Emperor Charles to return to the throne. The thesis also deals with the Czechoslovak response to Hungarian events, its intensity, arguments and speeches with the help of analysis of Czechoslovak diplomatic reports and periodicals. The work clarifies that several factors contributed to decision of Charles to return to the throne. These include, for example, the Emperor's morale and belief in humanism, arising from the times of the education of a young Emperor, or, for example, the overwhelming trust in his subjugation. Furthermore, the Emperor's conviction about the support of the whole event both in Hungary and abroad. The second research question reveals the ways in which the Czechoslovak press and the Czechoslovak political representation reacted to the Hungarian events. The...

"The Return of the King?" Restoration attempts of Charles Habsburg in Hungary in 1921 in the context of international relationships in Europe
Raiman, Vojtěch ; Irmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Rak, Jiří (referee)
The restoration attempts of Charles Habsburg in Hungary presented one of the last efforts to restore the "former order" in Central Europe after the First World War. In the time of relative pacification the restoration attempts caused crisis among Hungary, successor states and the Entente and brought the middle Europe on the brink of an armed conflict. The bachelor work The Return of the King? is a case study with elements of comparison, the goal of which is to analyse the attitude of foreign policy towards the question of the Habsburg restoration in Hungary and to describe reaction of the Little Entente and the Allies: the United Kingdom, France and Italy. The changes of the system of government in Hungary made the ex-king hope that his attempts could succeed. Charles simultaneously hoped in a support of the Entente. However the restoration attempts were sharply opposed by the states of the Little Entente, which believed the return of the Habsburg dynasty on the throne of Hungary would be a threat to their own sovereignty. In case of a successful restoration the Little Entente threatened with a military intervention. The danger of the restoration attempts catalysed cooperation of the Little Entente and helped the completion of the alliance. The Allies had to intervene in order to maintain peace in central...
The responses in domestic politics to Hodza Plan 1935-1936
Váňa, Daniel ; Jakubec, Ivan (advisor) ; Dufek, Pavel (referee) ; Kovář, Martin (referee)
Abstract The thesis is about the reaction of Czechoslovak political scene to Milan Hodža's Danubian plan. Milan Hodža was Slovak Agrarian and economist who introduced his plan in the second half of 1935 at the time when he was Prime minister of Czechoslovakia. Author emerged from broader considerations of Czech and Czechoslovak ideas about economic and political developments in Central Europe, according to Palacký "space between Germany and Russia." In this context author accepts Palackys beliefs about the indispensability of the Danubian Hapsburg Empire as the counter imperialist expansion's bumper of both the continental powers and efforts of political parties Mladočeši and Staročeši who tried to reform and maintain the country. He also describes the interwar projects of Czechoslovak sovereign foreign policy, where Czechoslovaks tried to take on an inspirational leadership role of Central European economic and political cooperation which was based on Little Entente. Author of this thesis thinks that Hodža's Plan is just one of these projects. And as all the previous projects Hodža's plan had no opportunity to be implemented in the new internationally-political and internationally-economic context. Had Milan Hodža prepared his plan for economic and potentially political cooperation between Danube region countries from the national economy point of view? Did he start the wider discussion about the possibility of Danube region cooperation in Czechoslovakia? These are the basic questions that the author asks and he answers them in the last chapter of his work: Milan Hodža never made any concrete national economic statement for his plan. His attempt for the realization had never gone out of the diplomatic detection. Likewise he did not evoke any specific reaction of Czechoslovak political parties not even in party periodicals.
Armament production of Skoda Works in 1930s
Mlsna, Michal ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Chalupecký, Petr (referee)
My thesis monitors the evolution of weapons program of Skoda Works during the years 1930 -- 1939. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the evolution of production for the domestic market and for export with regard to economic and political changes during the period and also to compare the response of armament production to peaceful production. From the perspective of foreign customers, special attention is paid to the position of Skoda Works in the states of Little Entente. We can see decline comparable to the decline in the peaceful production during the Great Depression period of the armament production of Skoda Works for Czechoslovak Republic. The foreign production falls more steeply relative to the expressions of Great Depression in states of Little Entente, but on the other hand the recovery comes sooner. The arms production achieves the recovery sooner than the peace production for Czechoslovak Republic. During the second half of the 1930s we can see a rapid growth of the armament production till to sign of the Munich Agreement. The position of Skoda Works at Little Entente states was marked by declaring national bankruptcy and the internal political struggle in these countries at first, the growing economic influence of Germany and also by the economic policy of the Czechoslovak Republic.

Kárník, Jan ; Skřivan, Aleš (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
The history of Czechoslovakia and his position played a key role in developement of weapon industry in the interwar period. Because of the instability in this region, which was formed after First word War, the weapon industry started to develop much faster. At the early 1930s the weapon industry was already so robust, that the consequences of economic depression didn't slow it down as much as they slowed down the other industry branches. At 1930s was weapon industry influenced by condition of economy of theirs business partnes from Little Entente and by politic situation in neighboring countries. Business plans of companies producing weapons and weapon material were lagrely influenced by czechoslovak gowernment. Economic policy was used by czechoslovak gowernment like foreign policy. This fact largely influenced the behavior of weapon-producing companies in their trade relation with business partners in Little Entente.
