Starobylé výmladkové lesy České republiky
Slach, Tomáš
Coppicing has gradually declined in recent decades in many European countries after centuries of upswing. Although the abandonment of this traditional forest management method was forced by changes in social and economic conditions and is rational, it results in losses of many natural and cultural-historical values. As the example of the Czech Republic shows, some of the oldest and most valuable ancient coppice woods may still occur in areas where they are no longer listed in forest evidence as a coppice because of current neglect. The issue is that the time required to understand and fully appreciate this phenomenon is limited due to the imminent risk of their extinction.
The paradigms of Uzbek identity
Ibragimova, Bibimaryam ; Horák, Slavomír (advisor) ; Šír, Jan (referee)
The research paper examines the question of Uzbek identity, and how it was pictured and presented by Soviet scholars and historians of independent Uzbekistan. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Uzbekistan announced its independence. One of the important questions on the agenda was the question of national identity. It was up to the newly independent state what they build their ideology on. Soviet historiography had different options for the origin of Uzbeks: some stated that history of Uzbeks starts from the 10th century; some suggested that it was the nomadic tribes to have entered the territory of the present Central Asia in the 15th century. The new government of Uzbekistan somehow continued with the Soviet tradition by following the idea that Uzbeks originate from the 10th century. There is even a group who dates the origin of Uzbeks back to the 1st millennium B.C. The literature written on Uzbek identity can be divided into two approaches taken: primordialism and constructivism. Both Soviet and Uzbek historiography base their thoughts on primordialistic approach, explaining that Uzbek identity is a long and complex process of ethno-genesis and that is associated through blood, language, religion, culture, etc. Whereas constructivists are explaining that Uzbeks as a nation appeared...

Svoboda, Aleš ; Kučera, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Klingorová, Kamila (referee)
The thesis explores the Ways of the Cross and their functions in the Western Bohemian region. The Ways vary in their degree of preservation, which correlates with people's attitudes. The aim is to discuss functions and meanings of the Ways of the Cross in landscape and society of Western Bohemia in the context of changes that took place in the region during the second half of the 20th century. The analysis focuses on political, social, and religious factors influencing these sacred monuments, including their maintenance, restoration, and perception. Emphasis is placed on Czech-German relations and their impact on the Ways of the Cross in the post-war period. The thesis also examines the role of municipalities, civic associations, and volunteers in revitalizing these monuments and integrating them into community life. The research seeks to better understand the historical and cultural changes in the Western Bohemian region and underscore their significance in the current meanings of the Ways of the Cross. Currently, many Ways of the Cross are being restored, with cross-border relations playing a significant role. Simultaneously, new ones are being built, predominantly artistically representing their creators. A substantial portion of the Ways of the Cross in the region is also disappearing or has...
(Neo)Classical Palaces in the Hradec Králové Region - Comparison, Current State and Cultural Significance
Michálková, Petra ; Zdichynec, Jan (advisor) ; Foltýn, Dušan (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of (neo)classical castle architecture in the Hradec Králové Region. Its aim is to examine the listed castles in the region built in the (neo)classicist style based on predefined criteria, which it places in the context of generally accepted architectural theory. There is a large amount of (neo)classical architecture in the region that could not be covered in the thesis, and therefore, also due to the continuity with the bachelor thesis, only castle architecture is chosen. The work is interdisciplinary in nature and extend in the historical, architectural and educational fields. The present study uses the method of comparison based on my own field research and the study of contemporary photographs and postcards. One of its sub-objectives is to come to terms with the concepts of classicism, empire and neoclassicism and to take its own position on them. The castle is first placed in its historical context and provides an overview of the events that led to the (neo)classical reconstruction or new building. A detailed architectural analysis is included into the generally applicable (neo)classical theory or architectural elements typical of the style. These facts are then compared and analysed in order to observe their similarities and differences and to find...
Industrial and military architecture of seaports, comparative analysis of reconversion of industrial and military heritage
Remy-Zéphir, Šárka ; Prof.Ing.arch.Peter Vodrážka,PhD. (referee) ; Hrabec, Josef (referee) ; Prof.Patrick Dieudonné (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
During World War II, seaports Brest, Lorient and Saint-Nazaire were heavily destroyed because of their strategic location on the Atlantic coastline. Those historical events could be considered as new opportunities for the seaports to realise new thoughts and ambitious architectural projects in order to improve the functionality of the urban organism. In these days, a new occasion has come. Military and industrial areas, which were always thoroughly separated from the town centres, have been now releasing from their original activity. There are huge free building sites in the middle of the cities, waiting for the urban architects.

A processional project dealing with the cave phenomenon in connection with a prehistoric art. It follows up with the beginning of art and its interpretations.
