The Secret of Monastic Walls: Educational programmes for the Franciscan Monastery in Prague

The diploma thesis deals with the establishment and implementation of educational programs for the first grade of elementary schools on the basis of the principles and approaches of good interpretation in the environment of the living Franciscan monastery at the Church of the Virgin Mary of the Sněžné in Prague. The work is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part deals with the methodology of good interpretation, st. Francis of Assisi, the Order of the Franciscans and the history of the Franciscan monastery, its origin and construction development. Agnes of Bohemia - Life and Work

Diploma thesis "Agnes of Bohemia - Life and Work" deals with the life and work of St. Agnes of Bohemia. She is one of the most important Czech saints. Although she came from a royal family, she did not hesitate to give up all her wealth and enter a monastery where she lived in poverty according to strict rules. She loved her fellowman deeply and she cared for the needy. The first chapter describes the time in which Agnes was born, in which she lived and in which she died. It is the government of the last Přemyslid dynasty on the Czech trone, namely the reign of Ottokar I., Wenceslaus I., Ottokar II. and the beginnings of the reign of Wenceslaus II. The second chapter is already devoted to Agnes herself. Agnes did not stay much at home as a child, she was spending most of her time in monasteries and in the Austrian court, where she was sent for a planned marriage. She was engaged several times for political reasons, but no marriage ever happened. The chapter continus with Agnes' relationship with Franciscanism, her effort to reform holy orders and a brief description of the privilege of poverty. The third chapter is the most extensive. The Iconography of St. Francis during the 17th and the 18th Century

The diploma thesis deals with the iconography of selected works of St. Francis in the 17th and 18th centuries in Bohemia. The work is focused mainly on the paintings that were created and were associated with the development of begging orders during the Reformation of the Church. The first part is devoted to the life and legend of St. Francis, which is the basis for the subsequent processing of individual images. An integral part of the work is also the topic of the origin and development of the begging orders that caused the depiction of St. Francis. Specifically, Franciscans, Minorites and Capuchins. An important chapter is also the piety of the Czech lands in the Baroque period, which demonstrates the revival of the veneration of St. Francis during the 17th and 18th centuries in Bohemia. All the above-mentioned parts provide the basis for the following chapters on specific illustrations. The iconography of the individual scenes is first described in a general depiction, including the world's most important examples. A large part of the work is devoted to individual works associated with the Czech environment. Antonie Hofman's life and work The thesis will deal with by a remarkable personality of the franciscan terciary Antonie Hofman, who, as an example of his life and his literary work, still has something to say today. Her life is a testimony of personal bravery, modesty, but also of christian joy and the endless human strength and will resulting of solid faith in God. The content of the thesis will be the chronological breakdown of the individual phases of her life, which is crucial for understanding not only her life mission, but also her literary work. In addition, the work will list the publications she has written, with a brief evaluation. Attention is also paid to the catholic movement jocism, which was promoted by Antonie Hofman The work will also note Antonie Hofman's franciscan spirituality, which has shaped her life and work and which she has been able to master in the practice of everyday, often hard life.

Canonisation of Saint Thomas of Aquin

Canonization of Saint Thomas Aquinas Abstract This thesis inquires into the canonization process of Thomas Aquinas, in relation to specific circumstances and general usage of the era on the field of canonizing saints. While at the grave of the reverend master, miracles were produced and the popular cult was rising, on western universities, a doctrinal dispute has flared up which touched Thomas' doctrine, as well. The case has not be resolved untill nearly fifty years, when the pope John XXII has shown interest in canonizing one important personality of Dominican order. The choice fell on Thomas. The minor friars, protected by the roman king Louis IV the Bavarian, oposed but the pope got his purpose through, and so Thomas' learning became the leading stream in theology and thinking. The aim of this thesis is to approach period specificities of the cult of saints and canonization processes, to outline a brief history of Thomas' way to canonization and following occurrences, and to try to figure out broader context of the process, evaluating the importance of particular aspects at the same time. The thesis is based on canonization documents and relies on relevant sources and specialized literature. The thesis is focused on the hospital of the Holy Spirit in Krnov in 14th to 16th century and his inclusion into the context of medieval hospice care in the middle Europe. It is based on proseminar and seminar works focused on medieval hospice care and in importance and theme is follow up of author's Bachelor thesis Špitál sv. Alžběty ve Wrocławi v širším kontextu středověkého špitálnictví ve střední Evropě (The hospital of st. Elisabeth in Wrocław in wider context of medieval hospitality in middle Europe). The hospital if Holy Spirit was erected in later period than hospital of St. Elisabeth. That is the reason why is the diploma thesis focused of hospitals which was erected in the peak of the Middle Ages these hospitals have got period of main development during the late Middle Ages. In the second chapter the thesis will be focused on analysis of the residential topography of this religious center in scope of medieval Krnov.
