Internal structure of Europarties since 2004

Presented thesis is focusing on the dependence and relationship between Europarties and groups of the European Parliament and Europarties and national parties. The research is carried out on five Europarties: European People's Party (EPP), the Social Democratic Party (PES), the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), the European Green Party (EGP) and the Party of the European Left (PEL) in the period 2004-2013 and it focuses on three areas: Europarties' financing, its leadership and autonomy in decision making. It presents several conclusions. Since 2004 Europarties became independent on the EP groups and more independent on the national parties in the area of financing in connection with the Regulation No. 2004/2003 regulating financing while their resources have been growing. On the other hand, all three organizational structures are still involved in the decision making as is shown on the example of nominations and subsequent elections of the so-called Spitzenkandidaten (candidates for the President of the European Commission) and the hierarchy within the European party families is similar to the hierarchy of its member parties. Use of Facebook for European Union communication: The Czech MEPs Example

Bc. Khanh Ly Tranová Abstract The bachelor thesis The use of Facebook to promote the EU on the example of Czech Members of European Parliament deals with analysis of Facebook public profiles of selected Czech politicians who represent Czech interests in the European Parliament. Given the greater role of social networks in general and the important role of Facebook in political communication, this work focuses on understanding how Czech members of European Parliament use new media to explaine the role of the European Union. This research is focused on the time period during the Czech Parliamentary Elections in 2017. During the political campaigns more attention is paid to some political themes, including issues of the functioning of the European Union and the importance of membership in these structures. This present paper argues that the Czech members of European Parliamen can use the increased attention in order to present the European Union and to raise awareness on this issue. From the position of experts on questions about the European Union, they can also take advantage for self-presentation during political campaigns. Stylistic Differences in English Speeches of Male and Female Members of the European Parliament

This diploma thesis is a sociolinguistic analysis of speeches rendered in English by members of the European Parliament. The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the stylistic patterns in speeches of members of the European Parliament based on gender, as a sociolinguistic factor. This thesis is based on three main linguistic disciplines: grammar, stylistics and sociolinguistics. The practical part is based on a research of 100 randomly chosen members of the European Parliament, 50 men and 50 women, whose speeches rendered in English, were transcribed and analyzed by the quantitative method used for a comparison of linguistic features. This thesis predominantly focuses on grammatical analysis of parts of speech and syntax. It also deals with hyper- sentential links: cohesion and coherence. This thesis also includes profiles of MEP which, together with other sociolinguistic researches, help to interpret the results of a grammatical analysis. The practical part is concluded by profiles of hypothetic MEPs who are likely to render their speech in English.

This thesis deals with the far-right parties in the European Parliament. Emphasis is placed on the situation after the elections to the European Parliament in 2014 and the post-election negotiations to create a single far-right political groups. The work introduces the theoretical concepts of the far-right, nationalism, anti-Semitism, racism, xenophobia, populism and euroscepticism. It also deals with the issue of the European Parliament, the formation of political groups and the character of the European elections. Far-right parties in the European Parliament are presented in a separate chapter, which deals with the history of their associating into political groups, the results of the 2014 European elections and negotiations about possible cooperation. Rhetoric and ideology of the far-right is presented on the example of three parties - the National Front, the UK Independence Party and the Golden Dawn.

Framing of the EU during the European Parliament elections 2014

Framing is one of the important concepts of media studies. That is because the journalists use framing as they create news. Framing makes it easier for their audiences to perceive the news and to understand it better. In media production framing occurs mostly because of the fact that journalists are affected by their opinions or by the organizations that they work for. Even the recipients doesn't have to perceive the news same way as the author - they are also affected by their opinions and his environments. The goal of this thesis was to find out how three Czech journals - Respekt, Reflex and Týden - framed European Union during the European Parliament elections 2014. In that period media informs about EU more than usual. Another goal was to find out how journalist constructed these frames. Qualitative analysis revealed six frames, which I named: Uncertain future of the EU, Lack of interest of Czechs for the EU, Absurd regulations of the EU, Necessary bureaucracy of the EU, Relevancy of the European parliament and European MPs and Inefficiency of European MPs. In analyzed journals prevailed negative frames over positive ones. As tools of framing authors used mostly headlines and captions. Selection of sources wasn't as important as choice of vocabulary and repetition of words in texts.

The Influence of the European Parliament on Decision-making in the European Union: Case Study Services Directive

The bachelor thesis deals with the role of the European Parliament in decision-making process in European Union under the co-decision procedure. By using the theory of liberal integovermentalism it reflects on wheter the position of the Parliament is mainly influenced by preferences of its political groups, or whether the national interests of those backbenchers, who depending on their position in the institution are able to influence this position, also play the role. The paper focuses on the case study of the Services Directive, which during its negotiations became a subject of many changes. Most controversial issues of the draft were a scope of the Directive and newly introduced country-of-origin principle. The first part of the paper introduces different paradigms of the European integration, which could influence decision-making process. The second part presents key players of the negotiations within the Parliament. The third part itself focuses on the case study, mainly on the preferences of those key players during the development of the position of this institution. It later shows how those key players are able to assert their position in the Parliament and during the inter-institutional negotiations. The MERCOSUR's Parliament position in international relations

Bachelor thesis The MERCOSUR's Parliament position in international relations focus at one of the most important regional integration in Latin America. First, this paper focus on MERCOSUR, it's institutions and formation. In this part the main topic is Parliament of MERCOSUR. Next the paper deals with foreign agenda of MERCOSUR by examinating relations of MERCOSUR with each country or other regional integration. In the last part of this theses, we can se an examination of foreign agenda of Parliament of MERCOSUR. This part is based on recomandations and declarations of Parliament of MERCOSUR. The aim of this thesis is to find out if the foreign agenda of MERCOSUR have been influenced by the Parliament after this was found in 2006.

2004 and 2009 European Parliament Elections in the Czech Republic and their Impact on the Party System

This diploma thesis comparatively analyses elections to the European Parliament held in 2004 and 2009 in the Czech Republic. It focuses on the main features of these elections with the aim of finding their main similarities and differences. For this purpose the framework of the classic "second order elections" concept is used which was introduced by Karlheinz Reif and Hermann Schmitt. The introductory part summarizes the main aspects of the "second order elections" concept. What follows is the examination of development of the electoral system for the elections to the European parliament. Crucial features of the electoral system used in the Czech Republic are explored in detail. The main part of the thesis concentrates on the analysis of elections to the European Parliament held in the Czech Republic in 2004 and 2009. These elections are put into context of domestic political situation. Additionally, party lists and election manifestos are examined, as well as the most important facets of election campaigns of relevant political parties. Necessary attention is also paid to the analysis of election results and to their implications for the political and party system. Finally, in the closing chapter both elections are compared using the "second order elections" concept.

Communication Strategies of the European Parliament in Brussels on the Example of the Role-play Game in Parlamentarium

Communication of the European Parliament with the public takes place within various means and on different levels. This thesis offers an analysis of the European Parliament's communication strategy through the role-play game in the Brussels Parlamentarium. A role- play game simulating the legislative procedure of the European Union is available in all the EU official languages and it is targeted primarily at the youth between 15 and 18 years. The analysis is based on the political communication and political marketing theory, as well as on the concept of the role-play game as an educational tool. The methodological background of the analysis is embedded in the ethnographic research and its constituent methods, especially a participant observation and questionnaires survey, further completed by qualitative analysis of the visual and textual materials of the game. First, the advertising tools of the RPG are presented. Second, the course of the game is described and its transcript analysed. Third, the ways of reception of the activity by the participants are illustrated. The goal of the thesis is to show whether the role- play game is a successful communication tool of the European Parliament with the youth.
