Representation of ethnic minorities in Czech TV shows

This thesis covers representation of ethnic minorities in Czech television scripted shows. In the theoretical part the main issues are explained, that have something to do with this topic, such as ethnicity and media representation. This phenomenon is also put into a wider complex and examples are given. In the practical part the thesis has a narrative analysis of chosen titles with focus on ethnic characters.
Representations of Ethnic Minorities in Current Media

The subject of the thesis is an analysis of the representation of the Muslim minority in contemporary media, and thus deals in particular with the issue of the representation of ethnic minorities. The theoretical section presents the area of representation and its form and functions in the sphere of media and journalism; at the same time, presents the problem of stereotyping and its form in contemporary online media. The practical part of the thesis deals with the analysis of selected articles from the Czech media from 2019. These were selected on the basis of the keywords Muslim, Islam, refugee and migrant in four different online news sites, namely Aktuálně.cz, iDnes.cz, Extra.cz and Parlamentní listy. Their analysis is subject to work with subtitles, text and visual material. The aim of the thesis is to affect the general traits that appear in the material and at the same time the tendency that leads to such imaging. Last but not least, the thesis is also devoted to comparing selected online servers.
Czech Language in the Crimea

The text deals with the current state of the language of the Czech minority in Crimea. Based on field research, it describes phenomena and changes that occurred in the language of Crimean Czechs that were caused by the influences of the foreign language and culture environment. Main focus of the text is phonetics, i.e. the way how speakers are affected by the Russian pronunciation standards. The text contains historical and cultural context relevant to the departure of Czechs to Crimea and the shape of the Czech minority nowadays. Individual chapters are dedicated to specific phenomena: deviations in the pronunciation of vocals in first syllables of words, changes in the pronunciation of the consonant [j], labialization in pronunciation of consonant [v], changes in the pronunciation of loanwords, pronunciation of consonants [ ] and [ ] in Czech words, pronunciation of toponyms, prosthesis and elimination of speech sounds from the beginning of words, deviations in the pronunciation of speech sounds from the middle of words, vocalization of prepositions and influences of Russian language standards on the use of their vocalized form.
Communication between the School and Families of pupils from ethnic Minorities

The topic of the thesis is communication between the school and families of pupils from ethnic minorities. Theoretical part deals with communication in general first, explains the concept of communication, describes social and pedagogical communication and basis of communication. It is also focusing on communicants, communication situations, types of communication and effective communication. The next part focuses on intercultural communication, intercultural competences and intercultural relations. It also describes basic terms such as group, culture, ethnicity, ethnic identity, ethnic consciousness, nation, nationality, national and ethnic minority, describes pupils who live in different living conditions and different cultural environment, pupil foreigner, pupil with different native language and legislative. Last part deals with the cultural specifics of national minorities and closer introduces Vietnamese, Russian, Ukrainian and Roma national minorities. The Language Situation in the Originally Czech Communities in South Ukraine (esp. In Crimea and in Novgorodkovka)

Abstract. The work is analysing the language situation in Czech communities in Crimea and Novgorodovka village. Fieldwork data from those communities and archive material studies present main reasons of migration from Czech lands to imperial Russia and development of Czech settlements in southern Russian regions. The description of Russian and Ukrainian influence on Czech language phenomena and transformations on all language levels is given, as well as some features of Northeast Bohemian preserved in spoken Czech of Crimean settlers. Acculturation strategies and negotiation of identity in individuals with migration experience

The diploma thesis focuses on the acculturation strategies which are used by young adults belonging to Vietnamese ethnic minority in long-term contact with majority. The main goal of the study is to analyze negotiation of identity in young adults from families with migration experience. The research question is how they reflect own previous and recent experiences and I strive to understand what meaning it has for them. In the theoretical part, I introduced the basic concepts and theories of acculturation psychology, acculturation strategies, development of identity, ethnic identity, context of ethnic communities, etc. Furthermore I deal with a number of significant links which have influence to formation of identity, for example family background, attitudes towards their own culture, possibilities for cultural transmission, language skills, context of majority. Thanks to autobiographical narratives we can see the way of daily negotiation of the identity at the young adult ethnic Vietnamese. By using the biographical design method, we will look at the strategies of acculturation, the view of actors and the subjective meanings of moments in their lives. Construction of student identity of Vietnamese college students with parents with different educational attainment

This bachelor thesis discusses the topic of university students of Vietnamese origin in regard to their parents' educational level. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether there are some differences between students, whose parents have achieved university degree, and students, whose parents do not have university degree. The potential differences are examined in relation to their perceptions of themselves as students, their decisions about university studies, the values ascribed to higher education and the processes that shape their identity. The research is also taking to account the influence of cultural context associated with family's migration experience, straddling between two cultures and relationship between children and parents. Theoretical chapters describe theories of educational transmission and the effects of social origin on education attainment. They also present the issue of first- generation university students and characterize Vietnamese minority in the Czech Republic.
