The practical part of my thesis - Interactive Electronic Book for Children – is the book titled The Story of a tree. The application contains the author's text, which tells the story about the old tree that lives its own life and also comes alive all around him. The text is completed by illustrations that are created by combining techniques (line drawing, watercolor, photography) and digitally edited. Some illustrations are animated, others require the interaction of the reader, to set in motion, a sound, etc. Each page contains sound or music.
Lectures with You - Lecture Recordings Conversion into e-Book Format

This thesis deals with the transfer record lectures, stored in XML files, to EPUB format (version 3.0). The resulting file includes the reciting images with audio commentary of lecturer. The solution is implemented in Python.
Willingness to pay for e-books in the Czech Republic

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explain willingness to pay for electronic books in the Czech Republic. Data were collected via online questionnaire. Using the logit model, following variables were identified to have significant influence on probability of buying an e-book. These variables are ownership of an e-book, online shopping, membership in the library, buying printed books, physical appearance of book and thinking about e-books as electronic documents which should be for free. Moreover, in case of printed book's price equals 270 CZK, respondents are willing to pay 132 CZK in average for an electronic version of the same title. The thesis is dedicated to the changes of the book market between its entities, libraries and final consumer of information (readers, library users) after the arrival of the internet. Development of the internet has brought searching of the new business models and opportunities for cooperation. Electronic publishing that, along with the internet availability, commenced to raise is the starting factor for the development of electronic books. The thesis outlines the roles of individual entities of the book market, i.e. publisher and seller (distributor, book-seller and digital platform) and libraries during the production, sale and accessing books with the focus on electronic books. After description of used terminology, especially different approaches to the definition of "an e-book", the next chapter presents hardware devices and software programs that enable reading e-books. The third chapter introduces the role of a publisher in the process of publishing printed and electronic e-books. The aim of the chapter is to highlight different strategies of processing the printed and electronic text, incl. possibilities of self-publishing which gives new possibilities to the author's hands. Printed Book Versus E-book Readers. The Future of Literary Culture in the 21st Century

This master thesis is dedicated to comparison of classical book and electronic book reader and it examines the advantages and disadvantages of both formats for recipients. In this work the importance of the printing press for society will be described and also the reactions which were induced by its invention. Following chapters will be dedicated to the book itself. Most importatntly what "makes the book being the book" and what are its strength and weeknesses and why it is still popular. As a contrast to this phenomenon the massive increase in popularity of electronic book - especially e-readers in pocket readers, on the internet and in the smartphones which become potential competition for books. The goal of this work is to compare the printed version which is represented by paper book and electronic version which is represented by e- books. Comparison will be based on the description of the specifics of both information tools from technological aspect as well as from the different text perception and the enjoyment from the reading itself. At the end there is an attempt to predicate the possible development in the future - is book culture facing a crisis or will it hold its position in following years?
A book captured by networks: the electronic book as a new social phenomenon of a global network society

This work describes the electronic book as a medium of the information age which fully corresponds to the requirements of effective dissemination of information in a global network infosphere. The first part of the thesis deals with definitions of basic terms. The second part outlines the position of the electronic book in the context of conflict between two environments - print and digital. An electronic book is presented as a product of social and technological changes. The new media's attributes of an electronic book are described. Problems emerging from the different nature of print and digital environments are highlighted, covering selected points of view of copyright problems in a digital world. The third part explains the problems of libraries in the network environment. Libraries are described as institutions in the process of adapting to the new forms of services including the provision of electronic books. The new role of libraries in the network environment is clarified as well as the reactions of the professional library community to the new challenges for libraries.
