Diagnostic of Time Perspective in High School Students ́
High, Radka ; Pavelková, Isabella (advisor) ; Chrz, Vladimír (referee) ; Holeček, Václav (referee)
This disertation thesis thematize the relationship to the future in high school students' and the diagnostic possibilities of this phenomena. We will describe the philosophical and primarily the psychological conception of time. The thesis focuses on the main theoretical concepts of time perspective, the cognitive-motivational theories and their relationship with achievement motivation. The empirical part has three goals: 1. The diagnostic of time perspective, 2. The description of students'relationship to the future, 3. The investigation of relationship between time perspective and achievement motivation. The analysis of the coding system of the Motivational Induction Method lead to improving this system. There was a battery of tests (quantitative and mixed methodology) used to diagnose the time perspective of students', namely Motivational Induction Method (Nuttin), Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (Zimbardo), Achievement Motivation Questionaire (Hrabal, Pavelková) and Motivational Sources of Learning Activities (Pavelková, Hrabal). The case studies that can show positives and/or negatives of used methods and individual ways of representing the future are presented in the end of the thesis. Key words: time perspective, future time perspective, perspective orientation, achievement motivation,...

TITLE: The Relationship between Time Perspective and Achievement Motivation AUTHOR: Mgr. Veronika Vitošková DEPARTMENT: Department of Psychology SUPERVISOR: Doc. PhDr. Isabella Pavelková, CSc. ABSTRACT: This dissertation addresses the relationship pupils and students to the future, the relationship between time perspective and achievement motivation. The close relationship between the given issue and volitional qualities of a person is also discussed. The theoretical part concentrates on the scientific views of a person's life time dimension, the relationship between the time perspective and the achievement motivation and the relation of these concepts to the issues of volition. The main emphasis is on cognitive and personality concepts of motivation of the time perspective (Gjesme, Nuttin, Lens, Zimbardo, from Czech publications on the concepts of perspective orientation by Pavelková) and on the traditional works about achievement motivation of Atkinson, Raynor and Heckhausen. In our analysis of the aforementioned theoretical concepts we concentrated primarily on finding overlaps, close relations and continuities within the described systems. The practical part represents a structured research of the time perspective, the achievement motivation and will of primary school pupils and secondary school...
What makes a reasonable player: self-regulation, time perspective and habits in online gaming
Lukavská, Kateřina ; Chrz, Vladimír (advisor) ; Klusák, Miroslav (referee) ; Urbánek, Tomáš (referee)
The thesis concerns factors that affect the intensity of MMORPG playing and the gaming addiction symptoms. In the theoretical part, I discuss approaches to the excessive and problematic gaming. I argue for the shift of perspective from gaming addiction disorder toward self-regulation, time perspective, activity theory and habitual regulation. Two inventory-based studies were conducted in order to empirically verify the effect of proposed variables on MMORPG usage. First, the significant role of Time Perspective (TP), measured by Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), has been confirmed. Second, the habitual regulation had been identified to significantly affect the usage. The habits related to usage were measured by the new psychometrical tool - Cues Sensitivity Scale (CSS). TP and habits influence the usage together - the effect of TP is partially mediated through Cues Sensitivity as well as through the players' deliberate regulation of playing time. All measured variables showed stability in time (measured after three years in subset of respondents). Data was analyzed with statistical methods, mainly with Partial-Least-Squares Path- Modelling (PLS-PM). The part of the data - respondents' strategies of playing time regulation - were analyzed qualitatively.
Distinction in the break up adjustment in people with different time orientation.
Krejčová, Monika ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor) ; Vranka, Marek (referee)
The thesis deals with the relationship between one's time perspective and their ability to cope with the termination of the relationship. The time perspective is composed of five temporal orientations - past positive, past negative, present hedonistic, present fatalistic and future - which differ from each other in personality characteristics and their influence on human behavior. Our aim was to explore the differences among them in the choice of coping strategies in dealing with a breakup and verify the hypothesis. The following methods were used in the research: Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), questions concerning respondent's breakup and Brief COPE, which measured a total of 14 coping strategies on a sample of 237 respondents. The results confirmed the different choices of coping strategies among five time orientations. Although it was not proved that some temporal orientations (past negative) would cope with the breakup more problematically, it seems, however, that these ones mostly use maladaptive coping strategies which can make their breakup adjustment harder. In the conclusion, therefore, are also considered the possibilities of application of our results in psychological counseling practice. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Diagnostics of Time Perspective in Grammar School Students
Škvařil, Václav ; High, Radka (advisor) ; Pavelková, Isabella (referee)
This Bachelor thesis focuses on time perspective in grammar school students and the possibilities of its diagnostics. The text is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The emphasis is given on the practical part. The theoretical part describes basic psychological findings about a time factor with the emphasis on its regulatory function. Different theories and approaches, that occured throughout history, are presented. The greatest attention is given to the Nuttin's personality- motivational concept of time perspective, Pavelková's theory of the perspective orientation, Zimbardo's time perspective theory and description of the diagnostic methods. The empirical part presents the research that was realized in the period from May to June 2015 in grammar school students of three classes in Prague. The major objective of this study was to map the time perspective of these students and to compare the diagnostic methods. As a main instrument was used the Motivational Induction Method, which finds out information about objects of time perspective and their position in time. To collect data we also used Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI), The Perspective Orientation Questionnaire and The Inventory of Motivational Categories. The Inventory of Motivational Categories was applied in order...

Time perspective and achievement motivation of high school students
Stehlíková, Lenka ; Pavelková, Isabella (advisor) ; Valentová, Lidmila (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with relation of students to the future, connections between time perspective and achievement motivation and possibilities of diagnostic strategies of researched areas. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts - practical and theoretical one. Emphasis is given on practical part. Theoretical part looks into scientific solutions of time perspective by way of cognitive and personality concepts of motivation (Nuttina, Zimbarda, Pavelková work). I minutely deal with relation between time perspective and achievement motivation which is presented within theoretical approaches of Atkinson, Raynor, Heckhasen. Theoretical part deals with theoretical conception of achievement motivation (in order to deep insight to these issues) as well as it deals with diagnostic approaches and methods of time perspective and achievement motivation. Practical part presents research which took place in period from March to May 2013 in Vysočina region and was focused on high school students. The research focuses on looking for student's relation to future with concentration on achievement fear aspects, relation between time perspective and achievement motivation, possibilities of diagnostic methods and restrictions of observed areas. Heart of the diploma thesis is elaborating of "Method of...
Using MIM in time perspective diagnostics
Havlíčková, Radka ; Pavelková, Isabella (advisor) ; Štech, Stanislav (referee)
This Diploma thesis thematizes the problem of students' time perspective and its diagnostics. The whole text is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical with emphasis on the theoretical part. The theoretical part will look upon the conceptions of time perspective. Ideas of time perception, the influence of time on human behavior and a connection of time pespective with an achievement motivation are presented. The personality-motivational concept of time perspective by European expert of motivational psychology Jopeph Nuttin are analyzed. From the domestic authors I describe the concept of perpsective orientation by Isabella Pavelkova. These theories are completed with information gained by Rayner, Gjesme and Fraisse. The important section is a chapter where diagnostics and specifics methods are presented. The empirical section contains the results of research provided by 5 classes of high school students with an eight year (or four year) study plan in April 2012 in Caslav. Using two questionaries (Motivational Induction Method and Perspective Orientation Questionary). Motivational Induction Method investigates objects of students' time perspective and summarized these themes into exact time frames. The Perspective Orientation Questionnaire helps investigate external validity. Key words:...
