Koliandr, Michal ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Nainová, Victoria (referee)
The media are an integral part of today's world, political and cultural events and are a key tool for creating worldviews. At the same time, they can also function as one of the basic building blocks for shaping the social core of a person, and thus also society and its values. It is necessary for the media to be the subject not only of ordinary conversations, articles and reports, but also the subject of study at an academic level. Facebook is one of the most dominant social networks today. At the same time, the developers themselves do not hide the fact that algorithms work on its platform, which monitor users' personal preferences and data, there are posts they spend the most time on, and based on this data, they create a personalized environment full of posts that the algorithms themselves deem appropriate. According to their own judgment, do the algorithmic practices of Facebook users lock them into information loops called Information bubbles, or do they only improve the quality of their time spent by filtering relevant or irrelevant content? The aim of this work is to answer this question, together with an insight into the world of algorithms, the social network Facebook and a comprehensive approach to the issue of Information bubbles on Facebook. At the same time, in the practical part, I...

Zanga, Clara ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
This masters' thesis focuses on the labour law conditions of female journalists in the context of the deteriorating quality of the media labour market and how these conditions have affected or are affecting women journalists' motherhood planning. The interviews with ten respondents working in Prague's national newsrooms were analysed using the grounded theory method. The resulting theory, which emerged from a three-stage analysis, describes the factors that influence the maternity planning of women journalists in the context of working conditions. The interpretation of the data also answers questions about respondents' experiences of atypical contracts, how working conditions affect their experiences, or what strategies journalists are using to combine work and care, or what strategies they are considering for the future.

This master's thesis explores the role of feminist ideology in audience experiences across pop culture genres using the example of the Czech audience of the American television series The Handmaid's Tale (2017). In academic debate, this title is associated with the existence of a relatively new trend of feminist perspectives penetrating popular culture, as well as with the establishment of the so-called female-centric TV series genre, which is characterised by a focus on women's experience and position, and thus on feminist themes. The diploma thesis focuses on the media representation of people living with HIV or AIDS in the five most widely read Czech daily newspapers (Blesk, Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, Lidové noviny, Hospodářské noviny) and their web portals (blesk.cz, idnes.cz, novinky.cz, lidovky.cz, hn.cz). The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of the concepts of media and social construction of reality, sociological concepts of identity, otherness and stigma, and an approach to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in a short historical and media context. The qualitative research method used in the thesis is Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis. The research questions direct the research towards identifying the most common narratives in media discourse and assessing how this discursive practice may influence the social groups portrayed, with an individual emphasis on stigmatising or destigmatising them. Answers to these questions are presented in the subsection on the findings of the analysis and their interpretation. The conclusion of the thesis briefly summarizes the main findings and offers a suggestion for further research in this area.
