Coelho Ramos Abstract: This work aims to study the specific linguistic behavior, as well as to answer emerging questions related to the interpretation of the modal verbs 'poder' and 'dever' in the context of legal language, namely in legal and jurisprudential textual typologies. To achieve this goal, a research strategy was designed based on three distinct lines: 1) through the systematization of an historical perspective and keeping in mind the present state of the art, we've defined a methodological approach oriented into the applied studies of the modality, in European Portuguese; 2) interacting with the knowledge already acquired and relatively stabilized in other languages, namely English, French and Spanish, we sought points of contact or conceptual proximity with related phenomena identified in Portuguese legal language basis; 3), departuring from emerging questions and specific problems triggered by this technical manifestation of Portuguese language (legal language), we sought to identify phenomena associated with the verbs 'poder' and 'dever' which could somehow be stabilized and brought to the context of present linguistic theory studies, especialy to...

Svobodová, Petra ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
The aim of the diploma thesis "Media image of selected components of the Integrated Rescue System during a state of emergency in the Czech Republic in the daily newspapers Lidové noviny, Právo and Blesk" is to show the main features of reporting on the components of the Integrated Rescue System (IRS) during the state of emergency, which was announced in connection with the so-called coronavirus pandemic for the Czech Republic on March 12, 2020 and lasted continuously until until 17 May 2020. Two basic components of the IRS were selected for the analysis - the Medical Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, and one of the other components - the Prison Service of the Czech Republic. The depiction of these components was analyzed in the daily newspapers Právo and Lidové noviny, and the daily newspaper Blesk was chosen as the representative of the tabloid press. A qualitative analysis of the collected text showed what topics the daily newspapers dealt with in connection with these IRS units and what role they assigned to them in the "story of the pandemic". The thesis shows in what types of reports the monitored IRS units occurred, what stories were offered to the audience in connection with these components and what myths depicted these stories....
Linguistic features of Classical Portuguese in contemporary Brazilian Portuguese
Šimíková, Karla ; Svobodová, Petra (advisor) ; Mrva, Jan (referee)
The bachelor thesis is dedicated to the comparison of linguistic features of Classical Portuguese and those of Brazilian Portuguese, commenting their similarities and differences. This thesis is divided into three parts. The opening one deals with the general historical context, considering the linguistic evolution in Brazil. Subsequent part aims to describe both observed systems, Classical Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese. These are described within the phonological and subsequently morphosyntactic systems, taking into account the aim of the work: Tracking those features of Classical Portuguese (to a greater or lesser extent) that are present in today's Brazilian Portuguese. Consequently, the last chapter is devoted to evaluating the extent of similarities between the two linguistic systems and outlining the different developments of Brazilian and European Portuguese.
Detection of undeclared fruit species in foodstuffs using methods of molecular biology and instrumental methods
Svobodová, Petra ; Wikarská, Monika (referee) ; Fialová, Lenka (advisor)
This thesis is focused on the detection of apple component in fruit-based baby food. The theoretical part deals with the fruit itself – the apple; food adulteration as a reason for the control of food composition and methods, both instrumental and those of molecular biology, by which food adulteration can be detected. In the experimental part, commercial products containing apple puree were purchased and model mixtures were prepared as replicas of the purchased products. DNA was isolated from these samples, its amplifiability was verified, and the presence of the apple component was detected after the selection of suitable species-specific primers. Methanol extracts for HPLC were prepared from the above-mentioned samples using a procedure previously used for the extraction of phenolic substances from apple pulp [1]. Using this analysis, apple in fruit purees was to be identified using phloridzin as a marker for the presence of the apple component. The result was a successful detection of the apple component in both commercial products and model mixtures using qPCR. However, the tested method of phenolic substance extraction proved to be unsuitable for use in the analysis of fruit purees, as phloridzin was not detected either in the apple puree extract or in the model mixtures to which this puree was added.

Expressing Future in Portuguese
Ondráčková, Veronika ; Svobodová, Petra (advisor) ; Hricsina, Jan (referee)
Future tense and periphrastic construction ir + infinitive are key ways of expressing the future in Portuguese. Existing research in this area has dealt with the historical development of their use until the 20th century; this thesis follows it by analyzing the current state. In the theoretical part of the thesis, we describe the terms future tense and verbal periphrasis ir + infinitive based on Portuguese grammar books and professional articles, focusing mainly on their semantic and temporal side. In the second part, we present the results of corpus analysis processed in the synchronous corpus Aranea Portugallicum Maius, which show that in today's written Portuguese the future tense is still used more often than the periphrastic construction, we also follow up the contexts in which they are used and deal with the issue of mesoclises.
Contrastive analysis of the absolute superlative in Portuguese and its Czech counterparts
Černá, Barbora ; Hricsina, Jan (advisor) ; Svobodová, Petra (referee)
This master thesis deals with the synthetic absolute superlative in contemporary Portuguese and its Czech counterparts. The aim was to describe the phenomenon in detail, explain the usage of doublet forms and discover the most frequent Czech counterparts of the absolute superlative in Portuguese language. The research was based on a corpora analysis of a Portuguese corpus named Corpus do Português and on a contrastive analysis of the parallel corpus Intercorp. The results show that in the case of the usage of the doublets, the borders between spoken and formal language might fade away, one of the doublets (formal vs. informal) often dominates and the usage is also influenced, apart from the level of formality, by other factors, for example by the variety of Portuguese. The most frequent Czech counterpart of the absolute superlative is a positive adjective usually bearing a higher value of expressiveness than the Portuguese adjective. The Czech language expresses the value of the absolute superlative primarily through its lexicon. Other counterparts are various expressions using adverbs, prefixes, diminutive or augmentative suffixes etc. In conclusion, a reverse control was made, and we identified the most frequent equivalents of several chosen Czech counterparts.
