Kober, Jan ; Švácha, Rostislav (advisor) ; Svobodová, Markéta (referee)
Keywords Representation - Building of Parliament - competitions - public debate - Centre of Prague - Czechoslovakia - Central Europe Resume Jan Kober: Between Place, Representation and Possibilities: Searching of Urban Location and Architecture of the Czechoslovak Parliament Building. Thesis, Charles University in Prague, 242 pages. The thesis researches the nearly forgotten story of the efforts to build the new parliament building. At the beginning of the 19th century, the Parliament of the Kingdom of Bohemia left its age-old seat at the Prague Castle for the newly-rebuild seat in the palace of the Prague Lesser Town. At the beginning of the 20th century, Prague became a quickly developing city, but, unlike the European capitals of that time, with few exceptions lacking the new monumental architecture of various public buildings. This led to the idea of the new larger and incomparably more representative parliamentary design (Antonín Balšánek), influenced by the pattern of Paris. The renewal of the independent state in 1918 as well as the rise of the number of deputies immediately led to the requests for the new building of the Parliament and to the emergence of the new projects of Václav Roštlapil, Max Urban, Antonín Balšánek and Bohuslav Fuchs. The political changes enabled also the old vision of the...

Sexually liminal periods in the lives of women in Ancient Egypt
Svobodová, Markéta ; Vymazalová, Hana (advisor) ; Pehal, Martin (referee)
The thesis seeks to explain the sexual passages of women related to fertility, such as menstruation, pregnancy and birth, in the ancient Egyptian world. The passages related to fertility have strong connotations with death in the Egyptian mythological context. The aim of the thesis is to understand this relationship, often metaphorically conveyed in iconography or in the netherworld literature. The thesis collects material from various sources, archeological, textual, iconographical, not only Egyptian, but also Greek and Roman. The methods used vary from cognitive linguistics and semiotic analysis to religious anthropology. Menstruation, pregnancy and birth in ancient Egypt are explained not only on the level of the understanding of the body of the Egyptians, but also in terms of what role they play in iconography and mythology. Furthermore, the relationship between birth and death is made with regards to fertility. The basic findings of this thesis consist of illustrating a dichotomy between the feminine nurturing principle of and masculine creative principle which appear in different contexts related to birth and death: in iconography, on the level of bodily fluids, or in mythological creation.
Immunochemical determination of DHRS8 and DHRS12 enzymes in human tissues
Svobodová, Markéta ; Novotná, Eva (advisor) ; Zemanová, Lucie (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Biochemical Sciences Candidate: Markéta Svobodová Supervisor: RNDr. Eva Novotná, Ph.D Title of diploma thesis: Expression of DHRS8 and DHRS12 enzymes in human tissues Dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR family) member 8 (DHRS8, SDR16C2) and dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR family) member 12 (DHRS12, SDR40C1) are human microsomal enzymes belonging to the superfamily of short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR). This superfamily represents one of the largest protein groups. SDR enzymes participate in the metabolism of various xenobiotic and endogenous compounds and are involved in physiological and pathological processes. However, there are still many enzymes which are only poorly characterised. To this date, the expression on mRNA level and catalytic activity toward 5α- androstane-3α,17β-diol are the only available information about DHRS8. Moreover, there is still no published information (apart from the prediction) regarding DHRS12. The aim of this study was to examine the protein expression of DHRS8 and DHRS12 enzymes in various human tissues. The tissue samples were collected from four middle aged male subjects after the sudden death without apparent disease. Proteins of interest were detected using western blotting and...
Integration of children with Asperger syndrome into primary school - experience through the eyes of mothers
Svobodová, Markéta ; Hubertová, Lucie (advisor) ; Čihánková, Ivana (referee)
Bachelor thesis describes the experience through the eyes of mothers of the children with Asperger's syndrome integrated into regular primary schools. The work is divided into two parts. The first part explains the theoretical back-ground needful to understand the integration process itself, further acquaints us with the participants of the integration process and the factors that positively influence the integration process. The practical part records interviews of mothers on the process and problems of the integration process and deals with the experiences and feelings of mothers in the process of integrating chil-dren into the primary school. Interviews with mothers are applied to a base of the research questions concerning finding and choosing suitable school, process the training of the child and the description of the integration process, in-cluding the presence and the problems that they have encountered in the inte- gration. Data from interviews were processing, sorting and analyzing and they are interpreted in the conclusion that shows real experience in the integration of mothers of children with Asperger's syndrome into regular primary schools. The Conception of Virginity in Greek Culture
Svobodová, Markéta ; Chlup, Radek (advisor) ; Pehal, Martin (referee)
Maidenhood is an interesting topic in the context of ancient Greek mythology and ritual. Despite the fact that women had a marginal position within the Greek polis, they were important in myth and ritual. Maidens in particular played an interesting part in Greek myth and ritual, mainly because they were in a transitional state between childhood and womanhood. Myths and rituals concerning maidens involve the goddesses Artemis and Hera, who help them with this transition. At the same time, this transitional state of maidenhood helped the girls learn to be women. Maidenhood transformed them from "wild" children into women ready to accept their roles as mothers and wives. One of the key questions that I would like to answer is how Greeks defined the concept of maidenhood. The maidens in myth and ritual that I'm concerned with are for example Pythia, Pandora, Atalanta or the Danaides. But who was a maiden? Why was she such an important figure in myth and ritual? To find an answer to this question I have turned to ancient Greek texts concerning the anatomy and health of women, and ancient Greek mythology and rituals have helped me interpret them. In the context of Greek thought, maidens were self-consistent in a way. They were pure, untouched and that is where their power came from.
Use of adventurously oriented games in the teaching of physical education in the gym at the second grade of elementary school
Svobodová, Markéta ; Kuhnová, Věra (advisor) ; Pokorný, Ladislav (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the use of adventurously oriented games in teaching of physical education in the gym at the second grade of elementary school. It is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is devoted to the child's personality in middle school age in terms of physical, motoric, mental and psychomotor. It also describes psychomotorics, psychomotor game, adventure education, adventurously oriented games, tools and utensils and motivation. In the practical part I examined the use of adventurously oriented games in physical education through the questionnaire and my own practice. The results have been recorded into graphs and tables. Each question was analyzed in the discussions, evaluated and I suggested possible solutions to identified problems. I replied at predetermined hypothesis and stated the results in the conclusion (see Chapter 3 of 5).
Differences in spending leisure time of children living in the country and in the town
Svobodová, Markéta ; Pelikán, Jiří (advisor) ; Straková, Jana (referee)
1 Summary: At present our society faces the fact that children have been losing interest in activities that do not generate an immediate result and their free time is spent primarily passive. Overall values in society have changed. To obtain the various resources, experiences, property, we prefer the easier way to the effort and perseverance. Therefore we cannot value our own personality and know ourselves. Probably that is why current society is called consumer. This study consists of two parts - the theoretical and the empirical part. The study deals with the relation between physiological and psychological development of children, influence of environment and the use of free time. It detects options and ability of pubescent children living in the city and in the country to use leisure time offer. It also examines how much the place of living influences the way of spending their free time. The main objective is to find differences in the use of free time due to specific life in the city and in the country. Some problems in relation to the free time are also mentioned, e.g. specifics of life in the satellite towns, some sociopathological phenomena (crime, drug addiction or vandalism). The empirical part describes and summarises the entire procedure, the creation of non- standard questionnaire and its...
