Workind with poetry in secondary school Czech langusge and literature classes

The goal of this master's dissertation concerned with working with poetry in ČJL (Czech Language and Literature) classes in high school is to create educational classes, which aim to improve high school students' relationship towards poetry. This goal is reached through diverse class activities, which are used in ČJL classes, and which are described in detail in this thesis. In the theoretical part, students' relationship towards poetry is studied and the way poetry as an art form is still attractive even for current high school students is explained. In the practical part, entire complex classes and separate activities are described, both of which are supplemented by excerpts of students' work, which was created during the aforementioned classes and activities. Each class is complemented by both the teacher's and students' reflection of it.
Children's reading at lower secondary school

The diploma thesis is focused on the condition of contemporary teenage reading. It ascertains the basic attributes of the chosen basic school pupils' reading. The thesis occupies with characteristic signs of pupil's reader's behaviour, their reader's interests and attitudes, it describes their relation to reading. It also looks at various factors influencing the development of children's reading. The thesis studies the position of reading in competition for other leisure activities of today's teenagers. It researches as well if present teenage reading really is "in crisis" as the level of reading literacy of czech pupils declines, which is shown in latest results of international researches. The theoretical part shows the basic characteristics of teenage reading in regard of progression specifics of the given age group. It is occupied with the way the school literary education influnces the teenage reading, too. It also studies the reading literacy and its position in the basic curriculum document for basic schools. The thesis gives a brief insight into the readership research history in the Czech Republic with emphasy on the results of topical researches as well. Reading Strategies at the Primary School Level

This Master's thesis deals with the reading literacy development of primary school students, focusing on their use of reading strategies, and is divided into two parts. The theoretical part defines reading literacy and other related terms, as well as specifies the relationship between functional and reading literacy. It describes the development of reading literacy, its dimensions and explains the factors that influence it. It presents the differences between reading strategies and skills, describing the relationship between them. This section introduces methods of developing reading literacy using the RWCT programme. The work also monitors the representation of reading literacy in the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education (FEP BE) and, based on the results of international surveys PIRLS and PISA, describes the situation of Czech students in terms of reading. The main goal of the practical part of the work was to find out what reading strategies are applied by selected fourth-grade primary school students. The Education of Immigrant Pupils in Czech and Maltese Schools

The master thesis focuses on education of immigrant pupils in Czech and Maltese schools. The aim of the thesis was to describe what particular measures the schools choose and what methods the teachers use to alleviate the impact of the language barrier in both environments and then to compare the results between each other. The research is of qualitative nature, with the research strategy being a multiple case study. The data collection was realised through observations in class, interviews with the school leadership, teachers and pupils and the analysis of digitalized materials. The case is represented by a particular school and the research was conducted at two schools in Czech and two schools in Maltese environment. The thesis consists of theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part aims its attention at the themes of appropriate approach towards the education of immigrant pupils, explanation of the Maltese education system, legislation of both countries on the issue of education of immigrant pupils and the theme of teacher training focused on education of these pupils provided at the Faculty of Education of Charles University. Transformation of literary heroes from preschool children point of view

The submitted diploma thesis with title Trasformation of literary heroes from preschool children poin of view is devoted to the reading situation in families and mainly examines the transformations of popular literary hereos of preschool children. The diploma thesis is divided into two main sections - the theoretical part and the practical part. The theoretical part deals with the preschool child and his development in variol components. The central chapter is reading líteracy and pre-literacy. There are also chapters on factours influencing reading and working with a book in kindergarten. The theoretical part concludes with the chapter Literary hero. The aim of the practical part was to find out who is the most popular literary hero in today's preschool children. The research survey consists of two parts - quantitative (questionnaire) and qualitative (interview with families) research. The following is an analysis of anonymous questionnaires. The results are processed in graphs with appropriate comentary. Furthermore we find analyzed interview with families containing questions about reading situation, the popularity of children's books and identifying with heroes from children's stories. Comparisonof commercial and unpaid tutoring by volunteers

The main goal of the bachelor thesis is to compare unpaid tutoring by volunteers with commercial tutoring. The compared area is the child's motivation for tutoring from the perspective of the parent, tutor and the tutored child. The theoretical part brings closer the phenomenon of private and volunteer tutoring, presents the concept of motivation in selected theses and summarizes the basic knowledge in the field of motivation. The practical part is focused on the comparison of both types of tutoring in a selected area. The comparative part is preceded by a description of individual trios based on the analysis of data from the obtained one-on-one interviews. Twelve respondents participated in the research (four trios-two trios for each type of tutoring), with whom semi-structured interviews were held. The instrumental motivation or the preference of the tutor over the teacher proved to be a common feature of commercial and volunteer tutoring.
